Who else noticed this on Germie Bernard's game winning score?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

GB already had the first down when the SC player let up.

We also had 2 TO left and would have had a 1st down at their 15.

Assuming we gain or lose no yards, we would have had a very makable FG (even for our kicker).

The call to let him score made sense to me…maybe it wasn’t the right call, but it wasn’t some kind of stupid, idiotic call. It was a calculated risk.

Perhaps Beamer had more confidence in our kicker than we do.

On the DeBoer show coach said he didn't know if they were trying to let them score or not. I also though he could have thought he was running out of bounds and didn't want to draw the penalty which would have put us in extra point range for a field goal. Letting us score seemed like a bad idea since we didn't have a field goal kicker with a game winning kick on his resume. In either case the flub on the squib kick ended any prayer they had.

Whether it was 40yd or 30yd FG we were going to milk the clock down to nothing so they could not get the ball back in regulation. He didnt believe the could win in OT. He wanted the ball back imo. None of his options had a high probability. But he was thinking he could play for a good kickoff return and have a chance at a hail mary pass.

I think he should have took chances to play for OT and played to stop any score.

With the clunkiness of the Cocks offense, IMO, they had a better chance hoping we'd miss a FG and getting to OT than letting us score with a little time and thinking they could match a TD on a long field.

Yup..I was watching it on TV at the same time, I was watching on my phone a news video, about the NBA cheating scandal at the same time..

I was like ohhhhhh boy that's going too have people talking just cause of how weird it & out of place it looked..

I would’ve made us kick the field goal but I don’t think it’s coaching malpractice by any means. I’ve seen Andy Reid do this before.

I understand the theory, but I'm sure glad GB scored the TD. Even if SC did let him score, they still only had about 40 seconds - with no time outs - to go the length of the field and score a touchdown. That would have been almost impossible against a defense that knows what they need to defend. Plus, kudos to that great squib kick that really backed SC up.

Yeah that squib kick was great. usually I hate them because they fail miserably more often than they work out.

I was reading winners and losers on CBS sports and they had a replay on X of Germie Bernard's game winning catch and run. This may go down as one of the most head shaking plays for SC fans. Notice on the run how a SC defender get close to Bernard and then pulls his arms back and up and then makes the TD sign when Bernard scores. Incredible.
Yeah, I saw that on the replay and wondered what the player was thing there... 🤔

I can't wrap my head around why anyone could think the odds for winning would be to allow us to score a TD. If GB was pushed out of bounds, we would have run one play to put the ball in a location best suited for the FG attempt and call timeout with a couple of seconds left.

SC could have forced a fumble, block the kick, get a offensive holding call, ect. Do what you can to force the game into OT. Not many options, but all are better than letting us score IMHO .

I think we would have taken a couple of shots at getting either a TD or a shorter field goal.

I agree with you on all the things that could have gone wrong, though. Really a dumb move on their part.

Our chances of winning the game would still have been very high if they had pushed him out of bounds. But the chances of a mishap were real, so playing to stop the TD would have been their best option.

They were likely playing for OT. They didn’t want us to run the clock out.
