Who has the better secondary?

Yeah, I really do. Wouldn't you want to beat an LSU team prepared to their best? We're no different. I've eaten my share of crow over the years and if I have to I will again but I am always willing to serve someup when the outcome warrants.

i fail to see how we are all of a sudden not prepared to do our best because you believe our secondaries are a draw.

Always, be careful of what you ask for!!

I want to pull for an LSU team that is the best because they beat the best. Not ashamed to ask for it. If I didn't and TR had an early game injusry in a loss to us as lsat year all I'd see on these boards is "Yeah, But." and "Wait 'till next year." This is the same place where I've read about how our defeat of Florida or Tennessee or WVU or Oregon or whoever doesn't reallt count so much because they were short this or that. Well bull! I want to beat you and beat you at your best. I want to be at our best and if you beat us so be it. Excuses are for losers. The winner of this game needs to win the crystal in Jan and leave no debate for the Sunday morning QBs. Sorry for the rant but playing with excellence and against excellence is a very big deal to me.

I wouldn't care if the LSU football team got lost on the way to BDS and the head cheerleader had to call the plays with the LSU drum major taking snaps. A win, is a win, is a win.

I kinda agree with Uncle Daddy, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings for Les and the entire coaching staff and team to be on a week long bender. Though more satisfaction would be from getting a win against a team at yheir best, but when all is said and done winning is winning.

You missed the point. The point is no team is prepared if they don't make an honest assessment of their oppoments capabilities. You can dismiss the LSU secondary all day long. Your coaching staff won't. I don't expect you to believe our secondary is as good as yours. So be it. Check my posts, I've tried to be honest about Bama's capablities. Sure I'm predjudiced, I am trying to be realistic about Bama's strengths. Some here seem more enamored with patting the Bama back than with an honest discourse. I can live with that.

Bama! 463 yards to WV, around 100 yds more than they avg. 240 to Oregon, more than they avg. 161 to the barn, 2 yds below their avg. Irregardless, 463 to WV should end the debate.

And the final score was? Bending isn't breaking. I expect we will bend on Saturday. I don't expect us to break.

I am not sure how you see a slight in Bama fans pointing out why Bama has a better secondary, and providing stats and player profiles to back it up. Bama has had a better season against the pass this year, and has 4 players who will play on Sundays to LSU's 2. That requires some pretty dark glasses to overlook.

Coming in second to this Bama secondary is no slight. LSU's secondary is very good. It is just that Bama's is better.

I don't read it as a slight and don't mean to come across that way. I'm also trying to avoid the dark glasses.

LSU was the better team in those games no doubt and that is the reason for the final score, but the win over WV seemed to be inspite of the secondary not because of it. I want to add that I think LSU has a great secondary, but that wasn't the original question.

Good points although we did play more backup secondary once the game was in hand.

I think we have the better secondary but a lot of the media think that LSU's secondary basically on the play of Mathieu. I just don't see it. If anything it is a wash.
I think LSU has the better CORNERS, but it has nothing to do with Mathieu. Claiborne should be the 1st CB taken this year if he comes out, and Simon is a very good cover corner, himself. Mathieu is most useful in the nickle back position.

I also don't think Bama's safeties are better, but certainly are good.

So yeah...I think LSU has a better secondary. That said, I think Bama has a really good secondary.

I went back and read more of the thread, and have seen it all over here recently. If you wanna look at the WVU stats and make a case against LSUs secondary, go ahead. LSU blitzed one...ONE time in that game. It resulted in a pick Mathieu returned to the 1 yd line. Other than that, they didn't even attempt to get to the QB, because quite frankly, it usually can't be done. They get the ball out to Bailey and Austin in about 1.2 seconds. The entire gameplan was to keep them in front of us, let them have their yds, but don't let them get past you for big gainers.

Check.

I don't care if we gave up 1,000 yds passing against them. We beat them by 4 TDs on the road. The game wasn't close. Nobody else has done that against LSU, because we haven't gameplanned to allow them to.

TIFWIW.

I hope to hell your staff has the same gameplan in situ for us. Our passing game is short and medium passes - out quick - with the occasional shot downfield. Although not run out of the spread, it's very similar to WVU's. The difference is that we have the ground game and 3rd down conversion rate which WVU just didn't have to back it up. I don't think you want to play 60 minutes of prevent against us. What's interesting to me is that your secondary has been shown to be vulnerable to the short/medium pass - our forte. Our secondary has been shown to be vulnerable to the deep ball occasionally, and Lee, and even JJ a couple of times, have shown a talent for that. It'll be interesting to see how the guys in these two secondaries are drafted. With many positions, a good college player doesn't equate to a good NFL player, for a number of reasons. However, IMO there's pretty much a one on one correlation between excellence in college secondaries and high draft position in the NFL. Let's remember this discussion and check back in after this year's draft and next's. At any rate, I think this is an interesting matchup. I think we open with a short passing attack, with an occasional draw, etc. It'll be interesting to see how LSU responds...

Wow Earle, you got your game face on early. I think our DB's still have something they want to prove & Saturday night is a good start.

How are they not better? I mean come on really, that is some dark glasses to say that.

They did a lot of chasing last year, and not much catching. I don't watch Bama games with the same fine tooth comb I would LSU games, but I'm just going off of what I know. Of course you're gonna think yours are better, of course I'm gonna think LSUs is better. That tells me they're probably both real good.
