It seems like if Simpson had Lonergan’s production he would be a lock to start. Right or wrong, Lonergan is getting ignored simply because he’s a true Freshman IMO.
I honestly don’t know. Maybe he has the team behind him and the others don’t or maybe it’s just that the staff really doesn’t know what to do. Based on today, I’m just saying this is the same Milroe vs aTm that you saw with no changes whatsoever.
Personally I would just flip a coin on TB and TS and take my chances at this point. But then again I haven’t won 7 NCs so….
Maybe but I really think Saban will ultimately play the guy who he thinks gives us the best chance. We'll see 🤷â€Â♂ï¸ÂMTSU may be bad enough to make Milroe look good enough to start against Texas. That's scary.
It also sounds to me like there is a sizeable group of "fans" on social media that really are rooting for Milroe and perhaps they are partly to blame for some of the "glowing reports" about him when many others are saying he really is struggling. Is this a case of fans trying to support a social media campaign for their "favorite" player???
If this is even close to accurate, I just don't understand how a "fan" wouldn't be rooting for whoever is playing the best.
At this point, there is so much misdirection coming from everywhere about the QB position it seems there is NOBODY outside of the coaching staff that knows anything. The scary thing is, based on how inconsistent the 3 leading candidates apparently have been, I'm not even sure the staff has a clue.
By all accounts, Lonergan was the most consistent QB in the spring, and he had the only TD against the 1s in yesterday’s scrimmage. “Ignored†is probably too strong a word, but I still feel like Saban wants to go with the older players “just becauseâ€Â. Like I said, I’m fairly certain if you swapped Simpson’s production with Lonergan’s, Simpson would be the clear favorite to start. If Lonergan is as consistent as everyone says, then he should be the guy IMO.Who says he's getting ignored? Because he's going up against 2's and 3's much of the time? Saban would call that bringing him along and building confidence rather than shall we say toiling in obscurity. To paraphrase the old buzz, youth ain't wasted on this young'un.
Also getting a kick out of the "heart" shown by Buchner - how so? 'Cause he got beat out at ND by the best transfer in the portal as soon as the ink was dry on on Hartman heading to South Bend, and Rees, his old OC, wanted his familiarity with the offense Saban hired him to implement? Could he have had any more opportune (last) chance in the whole of Power Five?
Three of the last 4, and 4 of the last 6 starting QBs for Alabama have been minorities and were fully supported by the fan base. Saban does not see race. He sees talent.Generally the feeling I get is that most former players are rooting hard for Milroe and Simpson mostly because they really haven’t had the experience of the mercenary gunslinger come in and win the job after summer feeling.
Generally I think Milroe has by far the loudest and malevolent type of fans on social media and in the media. They try to paint Milroe as having won the team, clearly the best, no other quarterback had anywhere close to a good day, and people who don’t say this are just stupid racists. I honestly think the last part is why people sort of reassessed what they were hearing last week because they didn’t want to get into that debate without physically seeing it for themselves. Because the initial reports were Milroe had 3 TDs and 3 interceptions last week against the 2nd string defense and looked very uncomfortable in the pocket. Pretty much the same thing that happened yesterday.
I think alot of the Ty Simpson fandom is mostly based around the alternate guy to Milroe and people have been married to this idea since last year. I don’t think it’s near as bad as the Milroe push but it’s noticeable amongst many. I’ll say he had a pretty good day yesterday and probably would have a similar performance as TB had people like Brooks not been loafing. He would have had a TD had Brooks caught an easy ball.
Like I keep saying, it’s officially scary now.At this point, there is so much misdirection coming from everywhere about the QB position it seems there is NOBODY outside of the coaching staff that knows anything. The scary thing is, based on how inconsistent the 3 leading candidates apparently have been, I'm not even sure the staff has a clue.
My question is why is Milroe the only quarterback that seems to be exclusively running a with the 1s and all the other quarterbacks are having to rotate in with the 1s and 2s? Or am I reading this wrong?I think he’s saying Milroe was the only QB to play exclusively with the 1s, but other QBs played with the 1s and 2s.
I think 81 is strictly talking about the media and “fans†obsession with Milroe. Saban definitely isn’t going to play (or not play) someone because of race. You‘re right about him seeing talent, but I just don’t think Milroe has it (as a QB I mean).Three of the last 4, and 4 of the last 6 starting QBs for Alabama have been minorities and were fully supported by the fan base. Saban does not see race. He sees talent.

This is the one thing I'm confident in when it comes to this QB competitionSaban will play the guy with the best chance to win regardless.
Was he wrong with Jalen over Tua? looking back, I’m not sure he was.Thank you for the updates! My fear is Saban and is gonna be loyal to Milroe(because he's been here longest) the way he was with Jalen over Tua in 2017.
This is where Saban’s penchant to be loyal toward his players comes in. Honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I want my coach to be loyal, BUT it almost cost us a title in 2017. Yes, Saban made the tough decision in the title game, but there was no guarantee we would have even made it that far. His loyalty toward Jalen cost us the Auburn game. I just hope Saban realizes we were very lucky to even make the playoffs that year.Idk if the coaching staff know exactly how it'll work out. But I'm confident they have 1 or 2 scenarios that they find most likely.
Milroe is almost definitely going to get a shot in game 1. It sounds to me like maybe Buchner will also. I'm less convinced Ty will. I know people said he did well yesterday but there have been a lot of negative reports about him since spring. Clearly talented guy but I'm unsure if the light has come on. Unfortunately this is all based on 2nd and 3rd hand reports.
My biggest question mark though is does Lonergan have any shot whatsoever. The talk around him has been almost exclusively positive (though he did have an INT yesterday) and even to the point where apparently some current players have been "buzzing" about him in a similar vain that they did about Tua his freshman year(not saying he's Tua).
How can you not be sure? It was clear Tua was a special talent, and Jalen simply could not throw the ball in 2016 and 2017. Yes, he developed into a great passer in 2018 and beyond, but Tua was a generational talent. Tua was the best QB in Bama history (at the time). Was he wrong with Jalen over Tua? looking back, I’m not sure he was.
Such a miserable comment. I guess he should have just shut up known his place and sat on the bench and gone away?? You know, I am starting to think some Alabama fans are angry that he is here at all. Almost like they are offended by his presence. If you don’t think it takes heart not quit after getting injuried, losing your job, and trying to learn a new offense without spring practice on a brand new team. I really don’t know what to tell you. Also getting a kick out of the "heart" shown by Buchner - how so?
