Why all the hate for the Manning family?

I just had a completely horrifying thought. What do we do when next yr there is a good possibility eli and peytie will play in the super bowl against each other and archie will be on tv as a commentator :p_eek:

To each his own.

If you like the Mannings, no problem. I don't care. I like Archie, and Eli seems like a good guy. He might be spoiled, but I'm a middle child so I'm used to it.

Peyton is really the only one I don't like, personally. Part of it goes back to 1995 when he led the TUK band after beating us. Besdies that, I just find him annoying with the way he barks the signals at the line of scrimmage, and when he makes a mistake, it's never his fault. Just typical arrogance.

But, that's just me....

QB's NEVER make mistakes!!! ;)

Peyton never thinks things are his fault? I think he suffers from perfectionism is all. I understand why some people hold it against him for the leading of the band thing. I didn't like it either but we could've prevented it too, ya think? I've never heard anything negative from any of the Mannings about BAMA. The whole Eli-San Diego thing.....do you think his Dad might've been a big influence on that whole ordeal? I know it sounds like I'm defending the Mannings but I'm just baffled at how some people can hold such petty things against people who 1) stay out of jail 2) work at their craft 3) aren't on performing enhancing drugs 4) don't throw their teammates under the bus. And the aw shucks thing...don't you think the television producers USE that to sell the product? C'Mon people, use your brains! I'd think you get mad about crybaby loser coaches before you'd get mad at a Manning.

Whatever! Shaud Williams leading the fans in "Rammer Jammer" down in Baton Rouge a few years ago remains a favorite memory of almost any Bama fan who was in attendance. Not a single Alabama fan considered it classless at the time, we all ate it up.

Pot meet Kettle.
I don't remember that happening at Baton Rouge, but, I was not present. If you say it happened, I'm sure it did. Still, I did not like it when Peyton did it in Bryant Denny.

Aside from that, I really do not share the dislike for the Mannings that others seem to have. True, I dispise anything orange, so that has to include Peyton's time at UT. But, I am past that now and actually enjoy watching him play for the Colts. His commercials are comical and he has no problem poking fun at himself.

I think it is safe to say, any future Manning QBs will not be playing at Bama, so I agree with a previous poster, hoping all three of the Manning boys have a house full of daughters.

That is what the draft thing was all about. Pops and the NFL were in concert making that happen. What a hype wagon would be coming at you for 2 weeks in that event. Can you imagine what the last 2 weeks would have been like? However the window is only going to be open for 2-4 years and then it will just have been a "good thought".

I certainly don't hate them. I did bid them ill will whenever either played Bama, though. These are 2 supremely talented guys that are fun and exciting to watch in the NFL.

No hate from here. Archie was as good as they come. Eli got stuck playing his college ball with a pretty sorry team and made the best of it--hurray for him. Peyton came close to being the greatest college QB I ever saw, Tennessee or no Tennessee. If I hadn't heard too much about him from that professor they ran off at Tennessee who never has gotten her book published, I'd like him a lot...You have to admit his commercials are plain funny. I still like him a lot as a QB--just not as a person.

I don't dislike Peyton for leading the band, although I didn't like that, I would have done the same. I can take it.

I don't dislike him or Eil or Archie for beating Bama, although I didn't like that either.

Again, my problem is with who they are which is arrogant, disingenious people. They try to manipulate things around them for their own good WITH NO REGARD FOR THOSE AROUND THEM, ie San Diego. Which, by the way, was one game away from being in the Super Bowl which would have been funny... Eli vs. Rivers. Whose to say San Diego wouldn't have been playing the Pack if Eli was with San Diego.

I can recognize that the Mannings were and are excellent QB's, but that doesn't mean I have to like them.

My main reason for wanting the Pats to win, however, was the '72 Dolphins thing.

Best post in this thread, PummelFulmer. The last 3rd Saturday in October, I met a high school coach of the Manning sons. According to him they whole family has class. The donate time and money to charities, which might never make the news.

Most of us have acted like jerks sometime, during our lives. IMO, negative comments about the Mannings, even for a reason, make us as Bama fans look bad. BTW, why should they say nice things about Bama? When did we say nice things about the Viles or Ole Sis? ;)

:BigA: ROLL TIDE!

Ditto. Those old creeps are a whining bunch of Depends wearers who can shove it. Mercury Morris has clearly had his brain destroyed by cocaine use and Don Shula is still more famous for Super Bowl III than 1972.

I don't know, maybe I am jealous of both of them for having canon arms but I have a pea shooter for an arm. maybe it is because they are giant men and I am a below averaged heighth humanoid..... I just don't like them.

There are some people that in their life, everything goes right for them..... that is how I see the Mannings.

I don't like em.

Yeah, we've sort of gathered that by now.

Here's an Archie story:

Anyone listening to Saints radio broadcasts in the late 80's - early 90's got to learn Archie's dry-witted personality and deprecating humor.

"What I got out of 'Who dat' was when a new player came in the huddle, we were so banged up, everybody looked at each other and said 'Who dat?"

"Danny Abramowitz was so slow that they used to get on me for throwing passes over his head. It really wasn't my fault. He just couldn't get to the ball."

My dad, before he retired, was also a director of his company's credit union, and lined up speakers for their annual shareholder's meeting. He lined up Archie one year, and was talking to him before the speech, just giving him a quick history and summary of the company. Engaging in small talk, my dad asked Archie if he knew my mom's first cousin's husband, who was from Drew, and about the same age as Archie. Archie said "Yeah, I know David. He's from Parchman!" Of course, Parchman is the state penetentiary in MS. This was just two guys talking, cracking jokes, with no cameras rolling. Archie is as down-to-earth as they come.

I have said it on this site before - had Archie been born an hour or so east of the Mississippi Delta, he'd more than likely be a hero at The University of Alabama - there with Namath, Stabler, and Starr.

Cut the guy some slack.

I Love the Mannings. I pulled for Eli like he was a Bama boy last night. Just like I did Peyton last year. I liked Archie when he was at Ole Miss.
To tell you the truth I like the Shulas and will pull for them. I lke the Crooms and will pull for them. Sure they may have been coaxed into saying things against Bama. They had been hurt by the one they loved. How would you react? I want the Shulas and the Crooms to feel welcome at their home.
Some people that are filled with jealousy, hate or whatever I feel sorry for you and I will pray for you.:BigA::biggrin2::BigA:
