This might need to be moved to the Non-Sports board or Pro board but I can't understand all the dislike for the Mannings, boarding on hate at times. Have they done something? I was on my way into work this morning and listening to the local sports radio show and this topic came up. One of the guys that called in said that for some reason there is a big segment of Louisianians that absolutely can't stand the Manning family and it's been that way all the way back to Archie's days of ball. And the strange thing is it's carried over to his sons and as far as he knew they've never done anything dreadfully wrong. At least nothing to the point to merit some of the treatment they get.

Can someone shed some light on this? I don't get it either. I mean I didn't like them when they played for teams that went against Bama (especially Petyon and UT) but when they left I've pulled for them ever since and really have no reason not to.

Maybe hate is alittle too strong, but I can tell you one thing there is no love for Bama in the Manning family. To tell the truth,I've never seen a quote anywhere from any Manning family member that is complementary of Bama.

I'd say how the Mannings acted when Eli was drafted definitely turned a lot of people off. Of course with hindsight, considering Eli just got a ring, I guess it was the right decision to spit in the face of San Diego.

I'll repost this hear from the other thread:

I don't understand the "I Hate the Mannings" crowd. I may not like the teams that they played for in college, but I have nothing but respect for their athletic ability and competitiveness. I've always liked Archie and felt bad that he was stuck on horrible team. However, he now at least gets some Super Bowl joy. I may not like the Colts or Giants, but I don't hate their players because they are good.

Who cares? People make those decisions everyday. It's called "Job Choice". If I don't want to work for Company A, then maybe I want to work for Company B. Get over it!

I've never heard anything but good things about Archie and Peyton as people. But Eli . . . whoa . . if you're ever unlucky enough to meet him, you'll understand. We crossed paths a few times when he was at Ole Miss and he was always a ****. He acted exactly how you would expect the starting QB for Ole Miss to act.

First, I do not hate the Mannings, I always had the utmost respect for Archie when he played at Ole Miss. Quite frankly I believe that to this day he was probably one of the 5-6 best QBs to ever play in the SEC. As for his sons, they are obviously good QBs both having a Super Bowl ring. The fact that Peyton played for UT is enough to turn me against him, don't forget him directing the band in "Rocky Top" in Legion Field. Also Archie has never said anything complimentary about Alabama when he is paired up with Brando and Tillman on CSB. I like them okay but would not miss them if and when they leave football.

Glad to see he won the big one. I remember back in 03 when Ole Miss was hosting LSU and toward the end of the game, the bottom fell out, he tripped and was sacked, game over and LSU went on to win the NC later on. Good for him.

I respect Peyton and enjoy watching him play but he and his brother both pout entirely too much for my liking. and I'm soooo sick of hearing about Archie anytime one of the boys is playing. It's like the song they play over and over and over and over to the point that you actually hate what is a really good song.

It is called a DRAFT for a reason.
It's called "Capitalism and economics" (I'm sure Bodhi will agree!). Skilled labor can often make a choice in job selection. Elway did it, and so can Eli!

It's not so much hate as it is just sick and tired of Manning this and Manning that....Archie I know is proud of his kids, but he's like the Stage Mom that won't leave the stage. Every time I turn on the TV it's a freaking Manning commercial or so it seems. They might be great people, but they are like Knats, freaking everywhere and in your face.

And we saw last night what you'll never see from Phillip Rivers and San Diego: a Super Bowl championship.

No, Rivers is content with talking trash with an opposing team's QB in the middle of a game that doesn't mean a damn thing. All that talk about how San Diego got the better deal is pretty much dead now. Billy Volek is a much better QB than Rivers (in my opinion).

I'm sorry to offend so many, but I don't like them. I think they are smug and tend to be fake. They try to come off genuine, but I don't buy it... sorry. That's just me.

Lot's of people hate the Pats only because they are winners... is that fair?

For me it is the way he Peyton led UT's band after their win against Bama. It is the fact that Peyton put his but and "bag" in a female trainers face then paid her off to keep it out of the courts then years latter he trashes her in a book. Class doesn't seem to be his thing.

Let's don't go overboard.

Again, my take on the Mannings is that they are disingenious whinners who manipulate things to try and get their way.

As far as other players from the SEC who did not play at Bama, I take them on an individual basis.

Barkley is a big mouthed bigot, but I think he is funny and rooted for him in the NBA because at least you knew where he stood.

Pat Dye, meet him once, seemed like a nice old fart.

Bo was, in my opinion, the best pure athlete in pro sports, period. Could have been the greatest.

Cad Williams don't like him, he's too much of a showoff.

Anybody else? This is fun!
