Why Did You Choose Bama?

I don't have a heartwarming story about why I became a Bama fan.

I just became one after being offered a scholarship and deciding to go here, plain and simple. I didn't know anything about Alabama football until they sent a letter, all I knew was Georgia and Georgia Tech since I'm from Georgia. I didn't even know anything about the history of the program up until a couple weeks into my freshman year. I had bought football tickets only because I was a sports guy. But I was hooked after the Hawaii game at Bryant Denny after experiencing the incredible atmosphere.

Even though I'm a new fan, Bama will be my #1 team forever no matter what happens to the athletic programs. I have bled crimson and white ever since 2006...which is something that all my friends back in Georgia aren't too fond of, especially after this year's UGA-Bama game :)

There is just something about that Alabama Football.:)

Because my older cousin (who I hated cause he always beat me up) was a barner.... Ive hated barners ever since. :) But I dont hate my cousin anymore. Especially since I kicked his butt from the age of ten on. lol I still think about the dust flying up when I was able to hold his face in the dirt and make him say Auburn sux over and over. lol.. those were good times

My parents. Big Bama fans. Still are (both in their 80's).

I can remember staying up late and listening to Bama shock USC and the world at 17-10 in 1971. I was 12 years ld at the time. I can also remember listening to the last-second field goal to beat an upset-minded Florida State in 1974.

Bucky Berry, one of my favorites, because of that fsu game and his name .Its not every day the #2 team in the country kicks a last second field goal to beat the team with the nations longest losing streak , 8 to 7

How funny! Revenge is sweet.

I was born a Bama fan, and I recall I enjoyed my first Bama game sitting in my highchair.....
Going goo-goo goo-goo goooooo Bama.............

:BigA: ROLL TIDE :BigA:

Alabama football was always in me as far back as I can remember. I used to listen to the games on the radio (giving my age) when Joe Namath, Kenny Stabler, Steve Sloan were the QB's. Lived for Saturday's back then the same way I do now.

My Dad and Uncle were big Alabama fans. The Women in our families picked Awbarn because they were mad at their husbands come Saturday. My Uncles along with my Dad (Rest his Soul) would show up at our house and park it in the Den and watch or listen to Alabama games. The ladies would go into my mother's room and listen to the Barn. Awbarn wasn't televised much in the 60's and early 70's like Alabama.

:BigA: Sadly the women in our family rooted for awburn out of spite because Alabama had somehow taken the girls place they thought was theirs. The Women in my family were Right. During the time I was growing up Alabama (Coach Bryant and Alabama) was 19-6 vs the barn. PMS went to a whole different level. :BigA:

Moses doesn't have the market cornered when it comes down to leading folks out of the wilderness to the promised land. RTR!

My Dad was at Alabama in the great years. Going to school with Joe Namath. I hear his stories. Then when i was little I got to go to Bear's grave site. Then my first game. I was in the Paul Bear Bryant museum I heard the theatre room in the museum break out in "It is great to be from Alabama."

I was conceived an alabama fan, I was Born a Alabama fan, I will die an Alabama fan.

My parents and grandparents were Alabama fans and were from Lamar County (about one hour northwest of Tuscaloosa). Plus, I am an Alabama graduate so it kind of makes sense.

I was born and raised in Montgomery and my birth certificate was stamped Bama fan. Bama was, is and always will be in my blood. I am so glad God allowed me to be born in Alabama. I truly mean that from the bottom of my heart. Roll Tide!!

My first Live Bama game was the 78 Sugar Bowl; my uncle took me because cousin couldn't go. After the 'Goal Line Stand', there was never another football team for me.

Born and raised in T-town and lived here all my life. Grew up going to games with my dad starting around 5 years of age. I've always loved Bama and can remeber crying like a baby when we lost. I remember my third grade teacher telling us that the Bear had died and the whole school sobbing. We even got to walk out and view his funeral procession just a few blocks down from school. I litteraly wore out a t-shirt that said "hold on Bear, I'm coming", yet I still have it to this day...thanks Mom.
Went on to get my degree from there and now I'm passing the love on to my boys as well. Even my 3 year old hates the Barn already.

I've posted this before, but my whole immediate family were Bama fans. One brother had spent two years before WWII at Bama, but finished at BSC. The second finished at BSC after the war, but was a huge Bama fan. My dad was also. He was recruited back in the 20s by Coach Crisp, who saw him playing semipro baseball in Cullman County. They even offered to finance his finishing his HS education at THS and provide care for my oldest half brother, who was three at the time. (Things were much looser back then.) He declined, because of the ways he viewed his responsibilities. My dad barely lived long enough to see Coach return - he died in February, 1958. One of the last utterances he made to my mom was "Alabama's going to be all right. Coach Bryant is coming back." This is very difficult for me to write, knowing all that he missed.

All the above considered, I didn't go to Bama for football. I went because of the excellence of the C&BA shcool. If you look at our record from 1955-1957, you'll see what I mean. In fact, my BIL, still one of my best friends on earth, was an AU grad. He eventually went on to become the director at Kennedy Space Flight Center, and he wanted me to become an AU engineer, and I almost did. However, I went to Bama. And. Coach Bryant converted us all into FB fans. So, there it is...
