Why was Chris Capps ever in the game?

Im trying not to get in a P***ing contest with you guys. But you can single out players every week and it's not going to make a difference. What you are seeing is a lack of coaching on and off the field, not the determination and will of the players!
I agree with the coaching as well. But this player seems to get singled out almost every week. Has Chris Capps played his last down at UA?
I hope not! With a new coach i hope he gets a chance to redeem himself along with everyother player thats made mistakes in every loss we have had.
Capps and Tatum both struggled mightily against the better defenses last year and again this year. Neither have the foot speed or strength to handle the better pass rushers.
To me, if you are constantly having to help your offensive tackle with another man, this is a clue he should not be in the game. I can overlook it if you have to help him out one game out of the year when he goes against an All-American, but our RT struggled last year and this year against UcheaT, LSU and All-Barn as well as lesser teams in the SEC. This year Capps made the Miss State LE look like a first round draft choice.
Capps and Tatum are not the answer at RT or any other position in the offensive line for that matter. I wish Michael Johnson could have gotten the majority of the reps at RT this year. I don't see where he could have done any worse and he would be gaining valuable playing experience. I know he red-shirted last year because he needed to put on weight and get stronger, but I honestly don't see how he could have done any worse than Capps/Tatum.
Tatum is a converted DL, so I have a hard time beating him up over the situation. He went to the offensive line to help out the team.

IIRC, Capps got beat to the outside on both sacks. I'm not sure how a guard helping can do anything about that.
I can tell you sitting in the stadium yesterday watching the first half. That is was borderline criminal that Capps started and was allowed to continue to play after all we have see for the last season and a half.
Honestly, you would think from some of the decisions such as these being made that you would actually think that they were intentionally making these decisions. I felt spies had infiltrated our team.
As for the lack of adjustments, I can honestly based on my impressions that weekly in practice the first teamers receive probably about 80% of the repetitions and everyone else gets what's left. I consider this to be the case because of the lack of development amongst our backup players as they should have performed better than they usually do once in the game. Based on this premsis, the reason you have not seen any personnel adjustments is because those individuals have not been prepared and thus cannot offer a challenge to the starters. You cannot honestly sit here and tell me with a straight face that Michael Johnson does not have more upside to him than Capps and with reps and playing experience would improve moreso than Capps.

yes, Andre has potential for the NFL,
BUT
Andre has been making more and more bad plays himself.
Andre is not as good today as he was when he walked on campus.
A.S. has had no coaching that has improved him at Bama,
he, like all the other O-linemen, has been coached DOWN.
Connelly is Capps's biggest problem.

The guard is supposed to help out on the DE. As the RT applies pressure and pushes the DE to the outside, his responsibility is to pick up if the DE slips inside or to assist in the push to take him completely out of the play if the DE goes to the outside. Marlon Davis pushed Capps instead of pushing Groves (rookie mistake).
Either way, Capps technique was horrible!!!!
I would have pushed Capps too! Get your big old butt to the outside! That was all on Capps, the RT knows where his help is on that play, it's to the inside. Capps must not get beat to the outside, that's on him, let him slip to the inside where the help is, but move your feet for crying out loud, the footwork is not there at all.
The best 5 are not out there. Caldwell has been practicing at tackle for two weeks and yes he played there later in the game. What is wrong with MS and BC when it is apparent that the best 5 are not out there? This not only the OL, what about Stover at receiver? Why Caddell? And of course the RB question that I won't even bother to talk about. The staff has trouble getting the right personnel on the field and we're all sick of it. I mean we are fans not copaches yeah, but heck it's been so obvious this year that even a caveman could have seen it.........
I agree with PalmBayBama--that was strictly on Capps. He didn't get outside quickly enough to allow Davis to help. If the guard is going to help, the OT cannot get beat to outside.

Exactly! Capps was getting beat so bad that the RG simply couldn't get there quick enough to help him. I've never seen a Tackle at this get beat that bad. Its not THAT bad when you see the number 1 Div 1A team in the nation playing a Div II team. He wasn't even slowing Groves down.
I am not trying to argue that it was the guards fault.... simply that both players could not accomplish the job. I have been severely critical of Capps all year. And I will again state that he had a poor game.
Is anyone else curious why Caldwell didn't play RT in the second half?????

CAPPS got the single most lopsided @**whippin In the history of college football against sippy ST. I dont know why he didnt loose his job for good after that game. A week later he somehow survives lsu?:conf3: Obviously, this coaching staff favors there 1st string heavily ,regardless of how they are playing. The last 2 years, CC has made Aubie D-ends look like NFL freaks. It took TOOO long to make a change there, and finally when we do, the damage is already done.
Yes Connely has issues, but Chris Capps is the worst OT in the world. Look at last years Iron bowl and you can see #12 on the bottom with an Aubie DE on top of him with Chris Capps running to the play. Against Miss State Capps was used to make the tackles on our QBs. I am sorry , our teams get worse as the year goes on, not better. ANd the staff has yet to realize it.
The sad part is is our defense has played good enough to keep us in games. Too bad they were supposed to be the weakest link, yet they are playing the best of the 2 units.

I agree with you 100%. This is exactly what I have been telling the people I work with. Andre has a world of raw talent and obviously was well coached in high school and Connelly is coaching him down!
This may be true, but LSU's and Auburn's DLs are the best AS faced all year...that may have something to do with it...
IMO, CBC must go; should've been gone by now. As for the question, Capps was in the game because he's our most consistant lineman.
