with 4 reg season games left and possibly a bowl game why did CMS choose to waste Mike McCoy's redshirt year? What a waste. We have plenty of guys that can play for 4 or 5 games, until the end of this year.

1) Hall
2) Brown
3) Oakley
4) Knight
5) Caddell

I know Brown is hurting but come on , with what happened to Shula as a player, I would have thought he would've learned about wasting redshirts. What do you guys think. This is just my opinion , which is worth about as much as squat.

"Shula confirmed reserve wide receiver Mike McCoy did fall victim to the jaws of “Smokey", Tennessee’s blue tick hound mascot who bit McCoy and tore his uniform pants during pregame warm-ups. “I can confirm that," Shula said. “I wasn’t an eyewitness. It drew blood in the pregame warmups." Shula also confirmed that McCoy did play earlier in the season, and his participation Saturday did not erase a potential redshirt year. … The Tide emerged from Knoxville without any serious injuries. Shula said that receiver Keith Brown (knee), who did not play Saturday, is expected to recover in time for the FIU game. … When asked about potentially playing reserve quarterback Jimmy Barnes early against the Panthers, Shula indicated that his team’s goal is “to get off to a fast start" and to avoid having “the mindset to get a bunch of guys ready to play and not have the mindset to win"."

Mike McCoy played in the Hawaii game then sat with an ankle injury. Brown did not play in the Tennessee game due to an injury. Knight has moved to defense.

OK .... good enough
I was at the Hawaii game and did not remember him playing. Harder for me to keep up with everyone while at the stadium.

you are correct about Knight..... I meant Stover

rolltide.com football Statistics is a good place to bookmark. It will show who participated in each game and all the stats both offensive and defensive along with a drive chart.

confused?!?!?

so is Mike McCoy still able to redshirt for this 2006 season? or not?

i sure hope so, cuz we need him for 4 full years not 3 full years and a few snaps here and there in this season.

roll tide roll !

To answer BB's original question, McCoy played in the first game primarily due to Hall's injury. Up to that point in fall practices, he had established himself as one of the top 4 receivers on the team (with Hall being out). After that game, he sustained an ankle injury and hasn't been a factor since then. I imagine we believed that he would have been a solid contributor throughout the year... as a 4th/5th receiver or on special teams. Otherwise, I assume the staff would've taken the same road with McCoy that they are with Alexander.

then wut does that mean??

it means he had already played this year, so his participation in the UT game did not matter in terms of him being able to redshirt this year (it did not "'erase' a potential redshirt year" because it had already been taken off him in the Hawaii game).
