I hope Coleman comes to Tuscaloosa as much as anybody, but I'm confused as to where the hopefulness is coming from.

In yesterday's Birmingham News, they said he had re-affirmed his commitment to the barn twice. But the three prognosticators (Lugenbill, Bone and someone else) were split on where he'd end up.

Serious question: What's making some people think he's going to flip despite the kid's own re-affirmations otherwise?

I can only speculate that its the old "where there's smoke, theres fire". And there's been a massive cloud bank of smoke on this one after the coaches put the full court press to get SC in, after it looked like we'd lost Stone to ut.

That, and the idea that Saban just doesn't lose players to the aubies. Aside from that, a bunch of vague, non-specific "insider" accounts. The guy appears to me to be a franchise LT in the making, so considering all the reports that he's been wanting to come here from day1, and we've made him a top priority now......idunno......guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I will say the longer this goes on, and the longer he stays committed, the more devastating its going to be when he defects

Rumor has it McCready has come back and said that Coleman has told sources at Miami that "Bama has too many lineman, now".

Of course, that is taken with a huge FWIW coming from him.

McCready is an idiot, but even he can piece together the puzzle on this one.

Bottom line, Coleman is coming to 'Bama. Barring some ungodly, incredibly unforeseen turn of events in the next couple of days -- which is in no way expected -- he will sign with Alabama on Wednesday. It's plain as day that we are the school that he really wanted to be at all along and now that he has a spot he is not going to let it go.

At this point, I feel more confident on Coleman than I feel on Arie, and frankly I've long since been very bullish on Arie and I am not changing that now.
While I'm not quite as confident . I do share the the same line of thought . Enough so that I believe it's possible Stone may not even receive a LOI on NSD .

My "Schadenfreude" side wants Coleman, just to hear the wails of "cheaters" from the east side. It still hasn't sunk in with the majority of them that we haven't the slightest need to cheat. Kids tend to sign with champions and champion-makers. OTOH, they are the ones who really NEED to cheat, and the cheaters are now back in the driver's seat...

It might not happen, but most have thought for a few days now that 'Bama would get Coleman, and I have really seen nothing to make me think otherwise.
Agreed, all I've heard all day is that we get Shon. Word from other players who were visiting Miami this weekend is that Shon is all Crimson.

I'm saying with about 70% certainty that we get him.

The latest on Coleman...

Yancy Porter is speculating that Auburn may still be his leader at this point based on the theory that (1) 'Bama has too many offensive linemen, (2) Miami is too far from home, and (3) there is bad blood between Olive Branch and Ole Miss.

It's a logical argument -- which is far more than most of the stuff he comes out with -- but even so I'm not really taking much of it to heart at this point. Most reports out there about Coleman have him as wearing the proverbial crimson on the sleeve down in South Beach, and so until I see something more substantial from more credible sources, I see no real reason to believe anything other than what we've believed for several days now... if we want Coleman, we will most likely get him.

Let's just say I'm FAR less optimistic about Coleman getting away from the Barners than BET...go back and read the last part of Earle's post closely and it tells you all you need to know...

I think Coleman is pretty unlikely too (Stone and Keenan as well), but that's ok as long as we hold onto Arie. Maybe we pick up somebody else and Coleman is still a possibility obviously.

They're cheating?

Regardless, the only way I'll be upset about Coleman picking the barn is if it's because he wasn't our first choice.

I have read elsewhere that he has concerns about our depth at OL. Not sure how accurate that is but as we all know playing time can be a big concern for a lot of these kids coming out of HS. I'm trying to remain optimistic but I wouldn't be shocked if he stayed with his AU commitment.

And now I'm concerned... Andrew Bone is now predicting Coleman will stick with Auburn.

Obviously all of the depth we have is a concern for him, but this comes at a time when a lot of people are suddenly becoming more bullish on our chances with Stone. Could this possibly mean we're getting both Arie and Stone and calling it quits? Perhaps so. If Stone did want to come, I do imagine we would take his commitment ahead of Coleman, for what its worth.

We'll see how it plays out. I feel confident on Arie, but as of right now the situation with Stone and Coleman is pretty much completely up in the air at this point.
