and play a wide open kind of game?I mean, look at the situation. The entire starting backfield is gone,Britt's ankle is sprained,so is Darbys, and Ron has some type of injury. What's the use of playing a three times up the middle and punt type of game?Anybody think that we willl,GASP,pass on first down, fake a punt,go on fourth and short, whatever?Just curious.

I too believe that Shula will stick to his conservative gameplan, he hasn't done anything all season to make me believe otherwise. I think though that a lot of people will be disappointed if he at least doesn't try something different. It's the Iron Bowl and Auburn is ranked #2, I can't think of a better time to empty the play book, you know? It's not like a loss is going to knock us out of a bowl so why not?

I read the huntsville times news paper this morning and
it said that the Auburn defense is preparing for Prothro
in case Coach Shula plays him as a receiver or as a
quarterback. :biga2:
Let's really play a trick on'em and line him up at center! :)

For Alabama to win, I think that CMS will have to

do something different. Right now, Alabama just isn't strong enough to line up consistently and whip Auburn when the Tide has the ball. That doesn't mean that CMS should throw in all kinds of crazy off the wall plays but playing it hyper vanilla just won't cut it on Saturday. Using Prothro on 1-2 plays doesn't cut it either.

A halfback pass would be great. Fake FG would be nice. Flea flicker would be good. Onsides kick. Regardless, I hope that Tide leaves it all on the field and throws everything but the kitchen sink at Auburn.

Realistically, trick plays can gain lots of yards or they can blow up like a 2000 lb bomb. If there are plays in the playbook that have been practiced but haven't been unveiled, you might see them. To try and install trick plays at this point, I think would be disastrous. Auburn is a talented team this season, but they aren't unbeatable. I think Coach Shula would be wiser to stick with a plan that fits the personnel and try to keep it a low scoring game. JMO.

Riiiiiight, let's throw some trick plays at the old Riverboat Gambler. He has probably tried or seen every trick play in the book. Our best bet is not to try to re-invent the wheel this late in the game. Just play sound, mistake free football and hope we only have to beat Auburn and not Auburn + the zebras. Anyone thinking we will see a radically different offense this week are simply dreaming. We have what we have, plain and simple.

I'm afraid, with Auburn 10-0, that we're not going to get any calls. you know the SEC would love to have a team in Miami.

I do hope Shula gambles..............And takes BAMA and the points.

ROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We may see some different things, but I wouldn't expect too much. As someone else said, trick plays either work really well or fail horribly. I think they have to be used sparingly to have any chance of success. When Fran tried the hook & ladder against UCLA, it almost worked out perfectly. If we did that every game, it would fail miserably. I liked the play we ran in the first half against LSU where Prothro took the snap, handed the ball of to Darby, and ran to his right while Darby went left. The defense really focused on Prothro and Darby had a nice gain. It's not something you can do every down, but in the right place and time could be very effective. Did we run a reverse against LSU? I know we have in other games, but we've yet to pass off of a reverse, maybe that's an option. Maybe a half-back pass, as long as it's not thrown to Pennington, he's hurt. Wow, how about line Prothro up at QB, hand off to Darby who completes the HB pass to Prothro! Is that tricky enough?

Nothing to Lose

Bama has absolutely nothing to lose by playing loosely in this game and letting it all hang out. What's the difference between losing 21-0 and 48-7? Auburn has everything to lose and nothing to gain by beating Alabama in this situation, which is similar to when Southern Miss plays against an SEC opponent. They empty the playbook, knowing that the SEC officials and the home crowd are going to be tough to overcome. Since we're playing at home, that's one obstacle we don't have to encounter....the crowd. The SEC officials....on the other hand...now that's a different story!

Let's give those country-a$$ wannabees something to remember. We might not win the battle of the scoreboard, but we can certainly gain some respect by playing well, and who knows, maybe we can take some of their key players out along the way...then they can find out what it means to play with heart, pride, and sheer guts, like we've had to do for two years now.

I was with you all the way until you mentioned taking some of their key players out. I think this team has more class than that, even if it is Auburn.

Personally, I see us using the same gameplan we had against LSU. The keys to this game is trying to shut down their Offense and playing mistake free football. We probably won't put up alot of points on them but we at least have to keep them from getting a huge lead. If we can keep it close till the 4th, we stand a good chance of pulling this one out.

I'd put Spencer in the shotgun for most of the game and let him rip it. If the receivers will do their part, we could light up the scoreboard. Running the ball 60% of the time will not cut it in this game. The only way we will ever improve in the passing game is to keep doing it in live game situations.

I don't think gamble is the right word. Open up the play book or pull out all the stops might be nice. He is going to run first, but mix the run with differnt formations, or like a toss sweep, or pitch out???? Let send someone deep alot more. Throw 3-4 bombs out there. All you have to do is hit one.

I would just like to see something that shows they preped specificaly for Auburn. A new wrinkle or 5 .

I wish CMS would do something a little tricky to try and get something going. But I don't think he will. He will play conservative and hope our defense our special teams can make a big play. Either way I hope that we whoop the barn's tail on Saturday and prove to the country that they aren't all they are cracked up to be.
