Agree with most everyone here. Yeah I don't like ND but I damn sure respect their tradition and history. They are not API or Thugessee so it is easy to root for them if it helps us.

PS. What did the Notre Dame TEAM have to do with 1966? Did they vote?

I didn't say my dislike was rationale. You had to have been around in those days. It was Alabama vs. the world and in that year they all combined to deny a great team what was earned on the field, the national title. It's also the same way that some people just turn you off. ND does that to me.

But don't call me a hypocrite!

Go Trojans!!

Well...

I can count the number of times that I have pulled for Notre Dame on one hand. That being said, I will certainly be singing their fight song on Saturday. I hope they put it away early...Now when they play Tennessee, that is another story. I think that I will pull for a team to lose as opposed to actually cheering a team on :cool2:

Unless we want to experience the fate of the Auburn team of last year, we need some unbeatens to start folding, starting with USC. Therefore, I will be a huge Irish fan.

I would almost bet that USC with a loss would only fall to #3 or 4 in the polls.
I tend to agree with you, but an undefeated Tide will be ranked higher than ANY team with a loss after the SEC championship game. If USC loses, the door opens. If we keep on winning, we will jump them eventually. Our only concern is having too many teams ahead of us also be undefeated. Of course, we have to win all of our games, but I wouldn't put it past this team to do just that. This Bama team is special.

Right now, I feel like we could go 13 - 0 and not win a championship. We need USC or the VT/FSU winner to lose. We might make it over an undefeated Texas team, but not both of the others...

Initially I thought yes. 1.) Because I don't want USC to win "three consecutive national championships" and 2.) Because I would like them to drop down and give Bama a shot at sneaking into the NC game.

However, the more I think about it the more I wouldn't mind seeing USC, Texas, Virginia Tech, Alabama (and maybe even Penn State) all undefeated. That's all five of the top major BCS conferences with an undefeated team.

Sure USC has been #1 all year and played a couple tough OOC games, but three of them have also remained undefeated despite an extra conference championship game. Then what are they gonna do?

If my dreams come true then the BCS crumbles like a old tombstone, which happens to read "Bowl Championship Series - Roy Kramer's Baby - Aug. 1998-Jan. 2006".

USC loses to ND
Texas loses to Texas Tech or Colorado.
VT loses to Miami but beats FSU in the champ game.
We beat an unbeaten Georgia like a stepchild in SEC game.

There you have it. Penn State and Bama meet in the big game!! LOL

You are right. The best scenerio might be for Notre Dang to beat USC then for Notre Dang to lose another game later in the season, even the Tennessee game. But there are a lot of things that would have to happen as many people have mentioned for Bama to make it to the Rose Bowl. If Bama can make it past Tennessee without any terrible injuries, we really do have a chance of running the table. At this point I am crossing my fingers for Shula's first 10 win season.

And ND would jump to #1.

No way! ND would be either right behind or ahead of USC (depending on how they played overall in the game), which would fall to the first slot behind all of the major conference unbeaten teams.

Traditionally I never pull for ND, TENN, AUB, FL St., or MIA! But in this case, for the rest of the season, down to all that is ahead of our beloved Crimson Tide!

Pull for Notre Dame--Heck yeah!

Sing their fight song--no way! :biggrin2:

I will cheer for Notre Dame against USC this year. I just don't care to see USC three-peat... especially after the way that the AP bemoaned the computer polls, the coaches poll, and everyone that didn't fall prostrate before their imagined omniscience after LSU rightfully won the championship according to the agreed-upon format set forth by the BCS.

I've come to absolutely despise most of the national sportswriters because of their unjustified hubris. There wouldn't be need for a BCS if they hadn't always injected their bias into their poll votes. They wanted a more objective method that would fix the problems that had plagued the poll system for years and it did its job. The team(LSU) that had played better(higher margin of victory) against better competition(better strength of schedule, quality wins) for the entire season won the championship and the sportswriters couldn't stand the fact that their Hollywood golden-boys came in second-fiddle to a bunch of southern boys from the bayou.

USC has a marvelous and exciting offense and national sportswriters, like most simple-minded organisms, love bright, shiny objects. Defense just isn't as pretty or as engaging to the average fan or sportswriter, although it is almost certainly the more important and more challenging aspect of the game. LSU had a great defense, and the well-known saying states that "defense wins championships".

So what happened after LSU pulled the rug out from under the surfer-boys:

From Wikipedia:
After the 2003-04 controversy (see BCS Controversy) in which the top team in the human polls, the University of Southern California (USC) was denied a place in the title game, the formula was revamped. Schedule strength, losses, and quality wins were no longer to be considered as distinct components in the formula, though of course the human voters remain free to consider whatever factors they wish

Well... God forbid that irrelevant factors such as schedule strength and quality wins should be factored into the formula to determine the best team in the nation. I suppose that the only factors that matter are how many points can be ran up against the high-school(some are almost as good as some high schools) defenses in the Pac-10.

This might be a shock, but if Bama, VT, Tejas, and USC all go undefeated, I don't have much of a problem with Bama missing the BCS championship game. You need one quality ooc game even if you do play in a tough conference. Now if Southern Miss somehow wins CUSA and Utah State wins the MWAC, I might have a serious problem.

I'm gonna bring this thread back up and say that Notre Dame gets beat by at least 2 touchdowns.

Look at who Notre Dame has played/beaten and how those opponents are doing right now.

Pitt
Michigan
Purdue
Washington

All have turned out to be quite overrated. Mich. State ain't that good and they stomped ND. ND's pass defense is ranked somewhere around 105.

This game will be a blowout.

I'm pulling for ND in this one for most of the reasons IH8Orange mentioned. I don't want the media darling USC to three-peat, although one of theirs is a shared championship with LSU. Some of the teams ahead of Alabama have to lose in order for Bama to move up the polls. Should Alabama go undefeated, let the chips fall where they may. Its still early, and games left to be played, but this season is already shaping up far better for Bama than most on this board realistically hoped for, myself included. I don't know that ND will win, but I think they are more capable of it than most of the other teams on USC's soft schedule.
