Would we have won the game in the 4th? I'm not sure, we had a fairly thin team that year. But we did have a good defense and I'm confident the game would have been decided by roughly a field goal.

So basically what you're saying is a Saban coached team needed a little leverage/luck to beat a Shula coached team? :biggrin2: Sorry, I had to!

And for anyone that doesnt like Pete Holliday  here is an article from ESPN.

Supervisor says there was 'no excuse'

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Southeastern Conference's supervisor of officials said an LSU player should have been called for pass interference in a pivotal interception against Alabama.

Side judge Blake Parks didn't call a penalty when Corey Webster picked off a pass in the end zone after pushing down receiver Keith Brown early in the third quarter.

"Let's just report it as I'd rather it have been called," said Bobby Gaston, who oversees SEC officials.

With the Tide leading 10-6, Webster returned the interception to the LSU 44. Alabama wound up losing 26-10.

Yeah Ive always wondered if I was the only one who ever noticed how Ark has always needed the refs against us. There been at least 4 to 5 wins of theirs that have had questionable reffing against us with a big bad penalty to change the outcome of the game. They have beat us outright about 2 to 3 times but the other 5 or so wins in the past 10 yrs have been screwy officiating and then I guess you have the stupid 06' and 04' games where we practically beat them up and down the field all day long and still lost.

Alabama fans need to show their displeasure during the game, epecially a home game. when an official blows a call, punish him...intimidate him for the rest of the game. College football isn't the PGA, don't clap and whisper after a big play.
Roar and let your presence be felt. Make opponents fear BDS.

I dont have a link. Just a story and some statistics. The game was 10-6 Bama at halftime and also at the time the call was made.
That's only 1/2 the story . The Tide was absolutely crushin' 'em . I know we turned it over inside the 5 plus , I believe we turned it over inside the 15 as well . The game should've been all but over at the half . It was the most dominate half of ball Bama played that season . Then , the Tide drives down the field -again- and gets screwed .

Glad someone finally mentioned the 1990 Sugar Bowl. Two TERRIBLE no calls on clear Miami fumbles. Both ruled down. Miami seemed to dominate game but Bama hung around and stayed within one score (8-points). Those two missed calls were huge.

Wasn't there another Arky blown call at Arkansas where Bama was called for defensive holding on a 4th & long pass play when there wasn't a Bama defender within 20 yds of the receiver? Was a rain game I believe.

Worst has to be 83 Penn State. That one reeked as there was just no way to view that play and think it was anything but a TD.
Yeah, that was in 2000.

But that was not so bad. It was a judgment call that was at least defensible on behalf of the zebras.

I don't have a link, either, but I think you're right.

As I remember it, Mike Guman was the PSU fullback who was stuffed twice in the Sugar Bowl after the 1978 season. Also as I remember it, his uncle was on the crew that blew the call on Preston Gothard's catch.

But I don't think the uncle actually made the OB call. Still, he shouldn't have even been on the field...that just looks bad.
You guy's are both right and allow me to add on. The Back Judge was the official who made the incorrect call and he was bared from EVER doing another PSU game. He retired from officiating the following year. Guman's Uncle was the Field Judge on that crew and actually signaled TD on the play.

I'm going with the 1995 Iron Bowl touchdown pass to Curtis Brown that was ruled out of bounds towards the end of the game.

For the sheer blatant nature of the non-call, the Keith Brown mauling at LSU in 2004. I mean, that happened right in FRONT of the official.

The personal foul penalty againsts the Aubs in 1986 (when we were up 17-7) was probably the costliest bad call we've had. It was fourth down and, had we stopped them, there would have been no Lawyer Tillman heroics that night.

It's amazing to me how so many calls seem to occur like these. It really ticks me off to no end.

I know if I did my job that poorly, I'd be fired.

There needs to be serious penalties for this sort of thing. It's impossible for me not to suspect refs getting bribed. Not necessarily from schools, but from boosters, and I find it strange that nowhere does this idea seem to come up. Proving it would be difficult, I understand that. I'd like to see a 20/20 sort of investigative report exposing such shenanigans.

Another bad "no call" cost us the '94 SEC Championship. We were playing Florida and Spurrier had just put in his backup QB and score a late TD on a long pass. We had them right where we wanted them. Florida was up 24-23 but we were driving with the clock ticking down. We hadn't had a false start the whole game but, at midfield, their DL's started mimicking the snap count and we had 2 false starts which stalled the drive.

Mimicking the count is a 15 yard penalty and the officials didn't call it even though we communicated it to them. That was tough to take in a championship game. My hate for Florida and Spurrier was forever sealed from that point on.
