This may have already been said, and if so I apologize for not reading every post in the thread, but it seems to me that the Sabans do very little without a purpose. What could some of those purposes be?

1. They are paving their way to go to another team. Unlikely. What is said in this article certainly seems to jive with the Texas rumors about "special presures" at Alabama. But if this were the case, I doubt they'd also say that they aren't leaving Alabama. We all read this article thoroughly, but most of the reporting I have seen has led with "Sabans Not Leaving Alabama"

2. They are paving the way for retirement. Possible. Maybe they don't want it to come as a shock when he steps down. I think we all dread the day it happens, as Earl said earlier. I don't know. Maybe they are trying to ease the blow if he wins three in a row and steps down.

3. They are trying to take the pressure off of the players. Possible to likely. Saban has repeatedly said this year that he feels as though the players have been under incredible pressure. He talked about it after VaTech and Colorado St. He had one on one meetings with players. Maybe, with this three game run up coming on, he wants to turn this into a story about him instead of a story about them.

4. They want something from the administration. Unbelievable, but possible. Mal is gone. It's possible that Bill Battle has not been as receptive to Saban's demands--whatever they might be--as Mal was. I find that hard to believe, but who knows? We didn't hear this talk before this year.

5. They are being honest, and hope they can change the culture. Possible, but certainly a sign of hubris. They've gotten everything else they've wanted from us, so why not this? In any event, this year, more than those in the past, it does seem as though we've become almost impossible to please. Those of you who hang out on the game thread have seen it first hand, and that is with our fantastic moderators.
6. They aren't perfect / infallible and have feelings that don't necessarily jibe with reality.

First off, Nick Saban is due far more respect that you are giving him. Period. I know we have some Alabama fans that think having season tickers or what ever for X number of years makes their actions infallible, but he's earned enough respect not to have you or other alleged Alabama fans calling his actions into question publicly. It's not even about if he was right or wrong in certain things, it's just due respect, in the same way that I wouldn't expect someone to go on their Facebook page and say negative things about their parents.

You want a perfect example of why Terry and Nick have reason to be unhappy with Alabama fans? Read what you said, look in a mirror. You want to understand the pressure they feel, you want to understand why another place might seem appealing? Once again, look in a mirror. You're epitomizing how an ungrateful fan would act.

Having said that, of course he has his limits. Outside of campus, outside of the stadium? I'm not asking what Nick things about politics, or music, or any of that because I'm sure he'd tell you that is outside of his area of expertise. But, inside the stadium? Inside his realm? When it comes to what he's the best in the business at? You're darn right I'm not going to second guess his actions, and I can't believe there are those here that think themselves qualified enough to do that.

And, finally... for you to bring up Paterno in this context makes me want to break my rule about not being personal with anything I say. That's just depraved and sickening on your part.

You know what's sickening? Your neverending insults thrown at anyone who dares to leave the stadium two minutes early because they're not fascinated at whatever our third string does when we're up by six touchdowns.

That's sickening. That's obnoxious. But you know what? Nick Saban is not Joe Paterno but that kind of blind loyalty any man is what causes people to lose sight of things. I would find your posts much more interesting if you weren't damned condescending to everyone who doesn't hold your high and mighty view of a fan.

And I'll play this card and risk a suspension - I've got two degrees from the University and owe the federal government an awful lot of money for my time spent in Tuscaloosa. I don't owe you or Nick Saban or anyone else a damned thing so long as I act respectful and responsible in that context.

Wow miss Terry is absolutely correct! You all really want every game to be a nail biter in order for you to stay the whole game when there are people less fortunate than you who would give anything to see a game in person much less whether its a nail biter or not! And all the crying about the SEC giving 6 teams byes before playing Bama in '10? You really think the rest of the SEC schools are going to stop scheduling cupcakes while Bama plays a top 25 team every week?

As a side walk Bama fan that never had the opportunity to attend much less get a degree at Bama I certainly would love to be a season ticket holder with many of ya'lls opportunity to attend every home game not to mention the road games in your motor homes that cost more than my house!

You all do know his roots I am sure and I would bet everything I own that he outworks any of you at your jobs and his expectations of himself are higher than any of yours of yourselves! I promise you this much. I am a fan of Alabama football and always have been and always will be no matter what! But no matter what the Saban's decide to do at the end of this year, the next or down the road I will always be appreciative for their time in Tuscaloosa and support them wherever they go or whatever they do!

All hail Lord Saban!!! You damn right!!!

Bear Bryant never asked me to do one thing as a fan and he never sent me a behavior program that I was supposed to follow in order to show him how much I appreciated him and his wife.
Wow, way to completely miss the point and show how you really feel about this.

I wrote something in October and here's how I started it:
"Rude, spoiled, arrogant, and lazy. I could go on, but those all apply to the behavior of some Alabama fans."

I really have to say I appreciate a couple of posters here that have stopped dancing around the issue and telling us how they really feel. I was tired of the vague shots at Saban and the excuses. Just come out and tell us all the problems you guys have with Saban...

You are absolutely damn right professor and I endorse your message 89,000 per cent. You go my man. You are on target on this one! sip

Let's take it down a notch, folks. If not, I can shut the thread, suspend some folks, or both. We can discuss this without resorting to personal attacks.

Y'all know this is Iron Bowl week, right?

Can we all direct our hate away from Ms. Terry and each other and towards those booger eating, sheep loving idiots at the cow college down the road?

ROLL TIDE!!

Allright dude.. you wanna know? I think he's possibly the greatest football coach in history and I LOVE his intensity. I also believe if people would follow his principles for living that they'd have a better chance for success. But I also know that he has one job--to be the coach at the U of A. NOT to determine how every Alabama Alumnus, student or fan should act. In short, it's none of his business, and in reality, according to his belief in "the process", it's "clutter" that he shouldn't allow to enter his mind.

guys/gals…. it's IB week. Don't we get it by now? Our rivals, in particular the boogers are eating this up…. watching us implode/bicker. Please, STOP.
RTR!!!!

This is just insane. I mean really. Completely and totally nuts.

When Battle indicated - on camera - last Thursday that he thought it was OK to go on and leave when we're up 35-0, all I could do was flinch...

Just so we're clear here, I already addressed the issue that was raised. I made it clear that football doesn't trump everything.
It's not life or death, it's not worth defending horrible people, it's not worth harming others. However, for me it is a connection to my home state, it's a connection to my family, it's something that my wife and I enjoy together, it's a way to remember some good times as a youth.

What's clear here is some people are looking at this differently than I, or how I believe the Sabans are looking at it. How can anyone believe Nick and Terry are doing this for adulation? Seriously, what's the precedent for that? Some people are annoyed, and irritated by my incessant references to certain things, but I belabor the point because some people still don't seem to accept it. Even though Nick, and the players, and the recruits have commented on it.

Attendance, and fan support matters as it pertains to recruiting, and as it pertains to the level of enthusiasm that the players show. This is something that Nick has commented on, Kevin Norwood has commented on, the #1 QB in 2014 has commented on, etc... I'm not here to argue, I'm not here to pick fights, I'm here to try and get through to some people that interpret remarks meant to encourage fans, as something else.
NOT to determine how every Alabama Alumnus, student or fan should act. In short, it's none of his business, and in reality, according to his belief in "the process", it's "clutter" that he shouldn't allow to enter his mind.

That's just it, we are part of the process! That's the entire point, that's what this all is about. It's an honor really, that Nick Saban considers us part of Alabama's success, but he does, and he's said it several times in several ways. We're part of it, and in that context, all he is doing is coaching us up. It's not disrespect on his part, it's respect! He values our role as fans, if he didn't care about us, if it didn't matter, then he wouldn't waste an ounce of energy or time on us.
