WWL: Perilloux Suspended Indefinitely

I doubt he's had to "work" as hard as a lot of guys that are less talented who make it to D-1. RP is a super talented kid with GOD GIVEN skills that he didn't have to put much work into for them to greatly benefit him. If his success hinged off of him truly having to work hard and be disciplined he'd probably never made it to LSU. His behavior shows how "hard" he works.

Agree completely.

I suspect he attended the PacMan School of Acceptable Behavior before he attended LSU. What a waste of such talent

Yep.

I do not think RP ever had to "work for it" the way good players become great. Hard work makes you appreciate what talent you have and develops character. Time will tell.

While we are a better team with an experienced Perrilloux, a redshirt freshman can be effective. The last Redshirt freshmen to start at QB for LSU was Tom Hodson. We played in the Sugar Bowl that year. Jarrett Lee was a big time prospect, but completely untested, and our road schedule is rough this year. Depth is a problem without RP, besides Lee, you have a Harvard transfer and a true freshman.

Bamabuzzard as usual is dead on, schedule and team should be primed for 2009.

Of course, thats a loooonnnggg time away, and a lot can change.

Steward Mandel, Sports Illustrated, article calling for Miles to dismis Perrilloux.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/stewart_mandel/02/20/perrilloux.suspension/1.html

Miles' ongoing handling of Perrilloux has become the most high-profile double standard in all of college football, one made all the more glaring by the spotlight that comes with winning a national championship and the fact that Perrilloux, last December's SEC title game MVP, is no longer a backup. If anything, he's arguably the Tigers' most indispensable player heading into next season, seeing as their only other quarterback options are a freshman who redshirted last season (Jarrett Lee), an incoming freshman (Jordan Jefferson) or a walk-on transfer from Harvard (Andrew Hatch).

During the Tigers' championship run last season, Miles became synonymous with his unusually bold calls. It's time for him to make what would be his boldest call yet: To send his star quarterback packing.

Well, Stewart Mandel can .... and moan all he wants, but Perrilloux is not going to get kicked off the team. This is his fourth incident in the past twelve months, and each time he has gotten little more than a slap on the wrist. This, I am sure, will not be any different, and the comments by several of our LSU readers only confirm that gut feeling for me.

And honestly, that's probably one of the reasons Perrilloux continues to get in trouble like this. At this point, it has become blatantly obvious that unless he does something like Jeremy Elder did, he will not get kicked off the team, so why should he care about all of these minor transgressions that will result in, at most, a slap on the wrist?

Again, Mandel can complain all he wants, but Perrilloux is Miles' golden calf recruit, and he will not be sent packing unless he makes a huge mistake. He'll be back in a few weeks from this, and I fully expect him to another incident before we play them again next year, but even so, as long as he is healthy, I fully expect us to face him when we head down to Baton Rouge next November.

Losing Ryan would be a huge blow to LSU. The team is losing more than its share of seniors and Perilloux is needed. Hopefully LSU will take steps to remove him but the price of losing him is to high for the success of 2008. BigEasyTider is right I think he will sit out Spring practice and be back for the Fall. I would hate to think Les would somehow reduce himself to a Fulmer like person.

I don't know if I would go that far just yet.

Miles left behind a good bit of discipline problems at Oklahoma State, but he has seemingly kept the guys in Baton Rouge walking a pretty tight line. With the exception of Perrilloux, of course, who seemingly has a different standard than the rest.

Fulmer, though, it's not just one player getting preferential treatment there. That entire program is out of control, and what is going on there is something that we don't see anywhere else in the conference, perhaps even the country.

Let's see, Fulmer has a guy that has had five alcohol related off-campus incidents and hasn't been dismissed, but Les should dismiss Perrilloux for missing classes. Mandell is struggling for off-season topics.

Like I said he won't miss a day of practice, miles is not going to start a Harvard QB or a freshman and we all KNOW it. I do not think RP is anywhere near the talent that Mauck and Flynn was so it really does not matter.
Laughable at best. Now if you're talking about leadership, you nailed it. But TALENT, come on.

News Flash- Perilloux suspended indefinitely (or until LSU plays a team they are favored to beat by less than 3 TD's.)

Re: WWL: Perilloux Suspended Indefinitely

That, of course, means until August 1, 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know...when he was suspended for the Bama game...he DID stay suspended the WHOLE game.;)

Les is in a less than admirable position with regards to Ryan. It isn't a decision I would want to make. Considering that next year is probably a down year, but still a year we can compete for a division and possibly a conference championship, he could go either way with Ryan and hopefully in the end I think we would be alright.

I don't really see the parallels.

Let's be really honest here, Fulmer has lost all control of that program from a discipline perspective, and everyone knows it. Everyone has a few bad seeds, so no one is perfect, but they are simply the worst of the worst. For Mandel to pen a column chastising Fulmer for the off-field drama would be tantamount to a political columnist penning a column chastising Bill Clinton for another scandal. It's pretty much expected at this point.

Second, LSU is very different than Tennessee at the moment. You guys are defending national champs, but Tennessee on the other hand hasn't really been nationally relevant in going on a decade now, and given the totality of the circumstances it seems unlikely they are going to change that any time soon. It goes without saying that the more high-profile programs are going to be under more scrutiny, that's just part of the territory.

When has consistently missing practices, workouts and classes become a misdemeanor and not a dismissal offense? This is a freakin' joke. My god has college athletics changed that much since I ran out of eligibility in 1996? The other guys on that team are expected to go to class, attend meetings, workouts etc.

A player doesn't have to break a law or commit a felony to be considered a bad apple. This kid needs to be shown the road and a one way road at that. I'm sounding like an old fart but "Back when I played" you didn't have to miss many practices, workouts or classes to get your walking papers. You definitely don't want the tail wagging the dog.

An interesting take...from a BAMA fan no less...on the RP situation. Got this from Tigerdroppings. Best post I've ever seen on that site!!:p_lol:

Believe it or not, BB...I think you and I have a lot in common...think a lot of the same thoughts about different things. Let's just say tolerance isn't a strongsuit of mine. But I must say, this guy that wrote the above post probably has a valid argument. We don't know RP's life story...just what we read about. I don't know if I agree with this guy...but I thought I'd show another viewpoint for discussion purposes.

Nobody is more tired of RP's actions OFF the field than I am...except maybe his teammates and coaches. I just wish he would grow up...understand what he's throwing away!!

Amen, Buzzard.

LSU posters -- we've been where you are now. We've had talented malcontents, and it's cost us dearly. We're still not finished with the fallout, and may not be for another year or so. We've learned the hard way that NOBODY is talented enough to warrant overlooking their effect on the team as a whole. This is the voice of experience speaking.

His public comments have labelled Perriloux as a malcontent from the time he was in high school. Maybe before that, I don't know.

Yes, you would in fact be better off with a former Harvard QB than Ryan Perriloux.

If you never again see anything of Ryan Perriloux other than his back, you'll be better off. If he comes back on your team, you'll rue the day.

I have no problem with getting the kid some counseling and any other kind of help the college can provide. But it doesn't mean he's entitled to continue playing football. He can still use the college resources to get his life straight. I'm all about forgiveness but forgiveness doesn't mean removal of consequences. I think the "right" thing to do is dismiss him from the team and allow him every opportunity (other than playing football) to straighten his life out within the college. That is fair.

But to use the excuse of he doesn't have a father figure, grew up in a bad home, and all these other excuses is basically setting two different standards for the players. On one hand you have the standards for the kids that grew up in "bad homes". Then you have the other standards for the kids who were "unfortunate" to not have grown up in a "bad home" so they are held to a higher standard. That's bad business.

Kick the dude off the team and get him help within the confines of the resources available at LSU. He's not entitled to play football or get more second chances just because he's had a "bad home life" etc.
