Your window on the world? - Part 1

My neighbor was in college and worked as a parking valet in Beverly Hills. Ernest Borgnine was a regular patron of the restaurant my neighbor parked cars. He said Ernest Borgnine always encouraged him to finish school and was a great tipper. When My friend told him he was graduating a couple years later. Ernest Borgnine gave him $200.00 dollars before he went into his car and whispered "I'm proud of you." The day my neighbor found out Ernest Borgnine died, his wife told me he cried. Class act Ernie.

Been clearing out Mom's house getting it ready to sell. Took this off the wall of their 3rd bedroom (which they used as an office) today. Was my late step-dads and IIRC was taken from the St John's River near Aster.

Will probably bring it home for sentimental reasons. Hard to get rid of some of this stuff - even through donations.

(snow on a roof here in Florida?)

Working over at Mom's again today. Almost finished getting everything out. As I was leaving a huge flock of Snowy Egrets, which were in our yard, took to the air. Man that was cool! They flew across the street and landed on the neighbor's roof. By the time I got my camera out about half had already took off again......

More birds......Snowy Egrets and Black Vultures hanging out behind the local Winn Dixie. I take this shortcut on the way to one of my storage units.

Second photo shows the Vultures all up in the tree branches.....after I spooked them as I crept closer to get a photo.....

Got a new set of tires for the Volvo today.

Way overdue as the date code on them were 2011! They were on the car when I bought it 3 years ago. Had a slow leak on the right front but since this wasn't my DD, I didn't prioritize the replacement process. Until it finally blew out on Monday. No biggie - very easy to change but now I was using the space saver spare with no spare so today was the day for new shoes.

These are P195 60 R15 tires so not a big expense item. I ended up getting a whole set out the door for only $313.

I used Discount Tire in Daytona Beach and they were as always excellent with service and sales. The new tires are great too - was fun driving home on the new rubber! ;)

I like the setup where you can watch the tire installers go about their work. I was surprised how they were all so young - and said as much out loud. One of the front desk guys overheard me and replied back "It's a young man's game!" I thought that was cool. The fella who brought my car out was only 21. Very polite and very good at what they do. Stuff like this is endearing to me.

It is definitely a young man's game. Standing on concrete all day and heavy lifting. Most don't stay in it for the long haul or move on to being a mechanic.

Placed a take-out order this afternoon from my fav. sub shop here. It's a family run business now in it's 3rd generation (I think?).

Owner runs a tight ship but he also gets to know and appreciate his customers - which come in all sizes and personalities, don't you know. ;)

Super good guy but also doesn't put up with any nonsense.

Anyhoo......before leaving he says "Oh....almost forgot to give you this. You're on the "list". And it's a very exclusive list!"

People who work at places like this - they're family!

Been overcast & cool here for the past couple days. I did some errands today and really enjoyed staying busy. Sitting in my Silverado and waiting for the North Bridge drawbridge, looking North across the Intracoastal Waterway.

The lady in the photo had her camera with her and was taking a few photos as well. She was afoot though....enjoying a Christmas Day walk and whatever came with it.......

Picked up and laid a pallet of sod today. 400 SF of 'Floratam'. It was about 85% solid pieces. Man, I hate sod that is loose and falls apart when you grab it. Got 'er done, regardless.

At the sod farm waiting at the pole barn to get loaded.......those are sod cutting machines on the left.......

How drought tolerant is it? I put some centipede on my septic mound in Wewa. To be honest I'm not really happy with it. I need more to finish the job. Any advice? Thanks
