BREAKING YouTube.TV drops Disney/ESPN/ABC & an alternate

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

The only reason I am determined to stay with YTTV is because my wife has finally gotten accustomed to it. If I have to change, it means she will have to learn how to navigate channels again and she hates change. I will never hear the end of it. She still longs for the return of regular cable, but our package was over $300 month when I finally cut the cord and we kept only the internet. The things we tolerate to keep our spouses happy.
If Momma ain't happy......

Hmmmmm... Something's got to give soon.

You know, now that I think about it, did Pitaro (ESPN CEO) consult with anyone before making this move...?

I wonder if his staff is made up of "yes" men that don't dare go against the grain.

No doubt that Pitaro was trying to increase revenues for his year end bonus. So many execs make stupid short-sighted decisions based on their bonuses to the detrimental of the customers and ultimately the company.

I hope this blows up in the faces...

I'm sure a deal will get done eventually. It always does when this happens. I'd bet money on it being back by next season. Luckily it's pretty easy to switch back and forth these days

Simple fact is that YTTV and Amazon are the best positioned to capture the live streaming cable TV replacement.

I have been exploring options in the midst of this. Its a mess. You go here for this programming there for that programming. It gets too confusing and choice overload. If it's live programming it's even more confusing and frustrating.

This squabble has set sports broadcasting back to the 1970s, in that my game is not on TV. Im like how ridiculous is that?

There a lot of political undertones to this issue as well. But the conferences need to put pressure on Disney to strike a deal because fans will just find something else to do with their time and money which will include not attending games at all.

Both parties are stabbing the goose along with players, parents, coaches, agents, universities, and media. I mean we are probably beyond stabbing at this point. The poor goose is now pinned to the wall with repeating machine gun fire...
This is why I opted out 2 years ago. They will never get me back.

I can’t stand Disney. I hope they continue to lose $$.

I think Im going to wait until Sunday morning to go down to the grocery store to buy the Sunday paper to see how the games came out. Just like the good ole days...

To make it even more exciting, place a bet on the game ...

... then you will be able to sleep that night just like it was Christmas Eve when you were 6 years old. :giggle:

I see the Google sent a letter to Disney asking them to restore ABC and ESPN to their viewers while they “continue to negotiate in good faith”. Interesting ploy by Google. No response from Disney.

This is a no win situation for Disney. Say yes and they lose leverage. Say no and they are the villains in the eye of public opinion. And Google/YTTV come out looking like “the knight in shining armor” trying to rescue their subscribers, which we know certainly isn’t the case. Google doesn’t have clean hands in this. Otherwise they would be suspending subscription or discounting payments to subscribers. No, they are doing everything but that.

I’m going down to the loading dock at the Birmingham News early Sunday morning and get my copy straight off the presses. I would listen to the game of the radio Saturday nightbut this thing hasn’t worked lately.

I mean, some people wanted to celebrate the massive contract the SEC signed with ESPN and how much revenue it would bring in for the schools…..neglecting the fact that this was most definitely going to lead to price increases for every viewing offer. There ain’t no free lunch!

YTTV is going to pass the cost along to the subscribers anyways, once a deal is reached. And they will do it with a Cheshire cat grin. So I don't know why they are being so stubborn

Choosing sides between Google and Disney is like deciding whether to root for Pol Pot or Kim Jong Un. Over the air will work this weekend and next. Senior Day may be Stewart et al. Maybe they will have worked it out by December.

This is not good for either side. YTTV is losing subscribers and reputation. Disney is losing eyeballs on its most expensive sports content. Advertisers will notice.

ESPN is in a corner. Without (desirable) original content they end up overpaying for, essentially, games. They have to make it up from viewers. So now they have a big bet that fans will pay for their app and just bypass YTTV, Directv, etc. I am skeptical that will work at the level they need.

What a mess.
