with Chapman coming on strong, any chance Saban slides Zo down to the DE/DT spot?

I doubt if it happens, that it will happen this spring but if Murphy qualifies and shows up to play this August, it might happen

IMO Zo would be more of a pass rush threat than Greenwood/Deaderick

I mean, I have said that if Cody and Murphy qualify that moving Washington might be the best way to get our best DL two-deep on the field. We'll have to wait for the Fall camp to see.

Where'd you hear that? He played at close to 285 last year, and he looks bigger this spring to me. I'd be surprised if he only weighs 275.

Ya, just read an article on BOL. Zo went on to say he plans to report to fall camp between 290-300 lbs. I think it's safe to say he's preparing to play NG. I believe that's where he'll stay unless Murphy and Cody both get in and just blow things up. I have my doubts that will happen either.

ah, good to know

he will likely stay at NG if he plans to be 290+

IMHO, Zo has never been a good fit at nose, and my opinion is he will have to work like h*** to even have a starting position on the d-line come fall camp. He's never been dominating--which works against him. I predict Cody will take his spot.

Cody is too fat and too out of shape to come in and start

situationally, he may be effective, other than that i just don't see it

Then why did we recruit him?

depth, goal line situations, FG/P situations

and possibly the fact that Saban thinks he has potential if he sheds some weight and gets faster

it is hard for me to take an athlete seriously when he lets himself blow up like a blimp

I don't think our coach would recruit a juco unless he has potential to come in and contribute immediately. Don't get me wrong, I like Zo, but the fact of the matter is he has not been a dominating force on the LOS. His job, along with most others, is up for grabs...

Cody will have to lose alot of weight to be more than a situational player. That is a fact. I'm guessing the staff brought him in this year as a run stuffer for short distance and goal line situations, and hope they can get him to drop 60 pounds by his senior season....then he might could start his final year. That's the problem recruiting JUCO guys....you only have two years to mold them instead of 4-5. By the time you start to get them where you want them, they graduate.

he will likely come in and contribute, just not as a starting NG/DT

he will contribute situationally

Thanks for helping make my point. the summer in our weight room and strict s/c can cure a lot of ills.... The only way the staff takes a chance on a guy like this if they think he can bring something to the table immediately. I trust Coach Saban's evaluation of talent and say this kid has the potential of unseating Zo Washington...

just because Saban recruited a guy, doesn't mean Saban is bringing them in to start

I think we've ran this into the ground, BN. If Zo, or any other starter off of a 7-6 team wants to retain their starting position, then they are going to have to prove it in spring and fall camp against very good Saban recruits. Whatever Coach Saban's final decision is on the matter, I will support. I trust you will as well...:)

If we could get a solid rotation set with Chapman , Murphy & Cody , and that's a mighty big if , I'd love to see Washington move about 4 feet to his right . Seems like a natural fit to me .
