OK, I've stayed out of this debate with you, mainly because I like you, but this pushed my button.
FSU built their rep by going anywhere to play anybody anytime. These games were not in "their backyard". The result was a national reputation that could not be ignored and eventually they were invited into the ACC (and the SEC for that matter).
Miami basically followed the same path with great success. Others have tried and and failed. For a while Tulane was almost playing an SEC schedule. Thay didn't fare to well and pulled back.
Granted, Utah did schedule Michigan and had no way of knowing Michigan would have their worst team in history. But that is one game. They need to make an all out committment to tough OOC schedule year in and year out on the road to force the pollsters to take notice. Until they do, they will still just be Utah, a pretty good Mountain West team.
