Sure it's an opinion. Do you disagree? Seems no one else did in January '05 and no one else except Tokolosh and Kyle Whittingham in January '09.
How many #1 votes did they get in the AP poll? Also, ESPN showed poll results last night. 14 states voted Utah #1...

As for what I think - I think they were not given an equal opportunity to prove whether or not they were the best...

I'm about to start handing out some suspensions to some BAMA fans if they don't cut out the ignorant sparring!!!! It's pretty obvious who is first, second and third on my short list.

In the poll from last night, with over 200,000 respondants, 32% would have voted Utah #1. 43% for Florida. Not the result most on this board want to hear, but 57% of Americans disagree with the whole "Florida is the undisputed #1 team in America" thing. 57%...

You didn't answer my question...you love using that debating mojo.;)

You're right...I give. Utah is the best team and should be number 1. 64,000 Americans in 14 states can't be wrong.

I do love a parade...

Sorry, bayou;)

Utah: Congrats on a great season. It's a shame your schedule was so weak that you didn't have a shot at the national championship. It's pretty clear that you'd have had a much better shot at it had you played a tougher schedule.

Surely you can grasp that fact...

I wouldn't suggest using those numbers to claim that 57% of Americans disagree.

That poll is far from scientific. Who do you think would have a stronger interest to take the effort to vote in that poll?

The Utah State game has been legislated in the past. Luckily they are trying to rebuild their program now so they've asked out of a few years with us. They want to schedule some patsies of their own to rebuild some confidence and health in the program.

The Weber State game bugs me. But If I recall correctly we have Texas to thank for that one. They cancelled a home and home contract with us and we had to fill the spot but weren't about to sacrifice a home game to hit the road. Sissy Longhorns!
Take a look at the FSU scheduling from '76 forward . Florida State Game by Game Results They would go anywhere to play anyone . That's a way to end some debates on the field and earn the respect that comes with it :)

Are you saying your victory over PITT gives you legitimate claim to the 2004 MNC?
That was a hoot :)

I actually though of that after I posted it. You are right. Most Americans don't care. 57% of Americans who are avid college football fans and logged onto ESPN.com that late at night. That is probably more accurate. And, if you think about it, far more telling than 57% of Americans (as only the interested fans voted)...

More accurate description but again, who has a larger interest to vote in the poll the haves (those beleiving that the team holding the trophy is the champion) or the have nots (those believing that any other team should be the champion)?

Yep, except that FSU can schedule those games. Those teams are, by and large, right in their backyard. Utah has no one in their backyard that you would aprove of...
And how many top tier teams are going to give Utah a shot now? I'm betting not too many. Unfortunatly, most out of conference games are scheduled with a "W" already penciled in.

FSU traveled to Ok , Neb , OhSt , ND , AzSt and many other places during the 80's while builing credibility for their run of success during in the 90's .

I said with a few exceptions. Utah scheduled Michigan, Texas and Oregon State that we know of. Looks like a good start to me...

If so, how did Florida win every state in the Southeast? Hmmm...

OK, I've stayed out of this debate with you, mainly because I like you, but this pushed my button.

FSU built their rep by going anywhere to play anybody anytime. These games were not in "their backyard". The result was a national reputation that could not be ignored and eventually they were invited into the ACC (and the SEC for that matter).

Miami basically followed the same path with great success. Others have tried and and failed. For a while Tulane was almost playing an SEC schedule. Thay didn't fare to well and pulled back.

Granted, Utah did schedule Michigan and had no way of knowing Michigan would have their worst team in history. But that is one game. They need to make an all out committment to tough OOC schedule year in and year out on the road to force the pollsters to take notice. Until they do, they will still just be Utah, a pretty good Mountain West team.

I admire your defense of the little guy, but it might be time to take up another noble cause like feeding homeless beach mice in Gulf Shores.

You're speaking my language brother. That made me laugh. Hard.
