Just out of curiosity how do you know that Bama could get him if they want him? I could see him leaving Missouri due to the lure of going home but overall it would be a lateral move. It seems like he might have interest but that it'd be far from a slam dunk too.

Secondly, I've read various posts talking about Mike Anderson and academics. To my knowledge virtually all of the guys that have exhausted their eligibility at Missouri have graduated. This includes his nephew DeMarre Carroll who is a senior on this year's team and has already graduated.

He is from here so let's just say that some of us know a guy, who knows a guy, who overheard at the local diner...;)

That's great news on the second part. I hope academics is being stressed by MA. It should be by ALL coaches. From a football school who was crushed by NCAA probabtion that was given repeat offender status in part because of violations in the Bball program I just don't think ANY chances will be taken by the university with the Basketball hire. It is why I think BK is not going to be the choice, and why I think MA is by no means a lock. Due dilligence will be applied to the choice, but I stand by my belief that if Alabama were serious about hiring Mike Anderson he would very likely end up moving home.

You may very well be correct about his interest. The one serious problem he has encountered at Missouri has been fan apathy. We are in our fourth year in a brand new, state of the art arena and until the last couple of conference games people have stayed away. We are still a basketball school at heart and I think Mike expected more because our fans were much more passionate when he was at Arkansas and we had a pretty intense rivalry. Some of the reason for the apathy is the fact that Quin Snyder destroyed a lot of what Norm Stewart had built, but a large part of it has been the legal issues of some of our players. Mike's nephew DeMarre was shot in the ankle during an altercation in the summer of 2007. Mike's son Mike Anderson Jr. who plays on the team was arrested and charged with a DUI in 2007 as well. Two of our players were charged with assualt in an incident at a local club during the 2007-2008 season and another one had a domestic assualt issue with his girlfriend in that same season. This has been a little bit disconcerting but there has not been any NCAA trouble or issues with kids graduating. I'm not sure how much the legal stuff would affect Alabama's interest.

I hate to say it, but he's had kids who developed legal issues at his other stops. 2-3 kids with issues on a scholly roster of 15 far outshadows anything that's happened with our FB team...

Why no discussion about the Butler coach?

Brad Stevens is a young up and comer that has his team in the top 10 (much of the year). LAst night a freshman led the team to a "ROAD" win over Detroit.

His team is 20-2 in Horizon Conference. I believe that is where TN coach originated.

He has good basketball background and it is clear he knows what he is doing by his record over the last few years.

If someone knows why he is not on the list, please elaborate.

I just read this whole thread in one go. Interesting and informative. It seems that there are as many opinions about this as there usually are in an Alabama coaching search. For myself, I just want the best guy out there that fits all of our criteria. Quite honestly, it sounds like that guy could have been Mark Gottfried, if only he would have started coaching again (or have hired the kind of assistants to help him get the job done).

Even thought I like the Donovan product, Mike Anderson would be a fun coach to have, and bring back the kind of basketball we remember pre-Hobbs.

It's going to be hard to get a really good coach IMO, but Anderson just might be the ticket since he is a product and knows the recruiting trails.

I really don't have any preference as to who we get as head coach but I voted for Tom Izzo just because that would be an intriguing hire to me. Good friends with coach Saban and all. I bet they would work well together and you know if he is a friend of coach Saban he probably has a lot of the same characteristics of coach Saban.

Not that I believe it will ever happen but you never know. A lot of aging folks relocate to the south for retirement from the north. He would be among friends as he worked towards his retirement and have a closer look as to where he would retire at and would have plenty of money to do so. There may be a place on a lake in north Georgia he might would be interested in. Wonder how many times he has vacationed at coach Saban's lake house? I bet he has shoveled enough snow for a lifetime especially having the money to get away from it!

Who ever it is I believe our administration will not pull a Kiffin and we will have the very best out there.

lol. With the unemployment rate in Michigan there is no reason whatsoever for Tom Izzo to ever be shoveling snow.

Cruel, I know, but true.

And with the state of the economy and the real estate gold mines it has produced here and there, now would be the time to grab a steal regardless of the unemployment rate here or there. Remember...he is not unemployed.;)

Does he have people to shovel snow for him for free? What part of retiring to a warmer climate, be it Florida or any part of the South do you not understand, LOL!

Cruel, I know if you are a YANKEE!!! And Jobless!!!;)

Have you ever been snowed or iced in? I would imagine in the neighborhood he lives in there is probably not many neighbors who would offer to dig him out for the love of money or otherwise. Maybe after the neighbors kids dug their own self out they would consider digging him out for the money. Hell I don't know!:)

If we're going to have a coach with baggage, let's have a coach with new baggage. And, since CM's married to Wimp's "baggage," I don't see that happening in any event...;)

Looks like even our speculation has run out of gas.

The more Mike Anderson wins the more I keep hearing his name, but that may just a reflection of the one upon the other. Honestly he seems like the best fit we could get. He learned from a winner and coaches an exciting brand of basketball. He has the connections with the high school coaches. He has improved a couple of different programs and is on the verge of some really big things with Missouri. It almost seems too good to be true that he would leave Mizzou for us, but if he is willing I can't see us doing much better.

Could he be pricing himself out of our range with this year's Missouri team?

What happens if this Pearson led team wins out and makes it the SEC Tourney Championship?

I think Pearson deserves a shot. The team is shooting better, moving better, and overall looks like a well-coached team.

I understand his current win streak has come against weaker teams in the conference, but he is winning these game, and the team is winning BIG. I love his emphasis on a more balanced, inside-out attack and he is using his bench very well.

I think Alabama would do well to give Pearson ONE full year to prove himself, before shelling out big bucks on relatively unproven coaches (i.e. Mike Anderson). Pearson does not seem to be a direct extension of Gottfried and seems eager to do his own thing.

While Pearson may be a good coach in his own right one day he will not get his shot at Bama. I fully expect him to land a gig somewhere, but Bama has a serious hole to dig itself out of and I think that is why Mal put down the criteria for the coaching search that he did. CPP does not meet any of those criteria, so unless Mal does a complete about face, CPP will be thanked for managing a difficult situation and look for a new job at the end of the year.

I agree that CPP has done a good job considering. At least the guys haven't packed it in in any of the games I've seen, and that alone this year says a lot.

Seems like a good time to repost the link to Cecil's article. I agree with him that Mal should stick to his guns on the stated criteria. I think we need a "big splash" hire for recruiting purposes, if no other...
