Stay Classy, Mack Brown: "It wouldn't even have been close"...

I happen to agree with Mack. Bama got very lucky last night with Colt gone. Had Colt been able to play, I very much doubt that the three turnovers made by the frosh QB that resulted in Bama TDs would have happened. And the Colt was shredding the Bama secondary. Even the freshman QB, throwing basically only to Shipley, was moving the ball reliably. Take away the TDs from the turnovers, add 1-2 TDs for Colt's experience and ability to shred an clearly vulnerable secondary, and Bama loses by 3 TDs.
You think we would've taken our foot off the gas if we hadn't been in control?

Colt might have made it closer, but we also would have continued punching them in the face instead of running to clock.

Face it, Mack Brown is a whiny loser.

Maybe we should've tried to score again on that last interception and really give him something to whine about :) The 2nd coming of Bobby Bowden he ain't....

I disagree with that statement. I think Bowden was a huge whiner. He would aw-shucks and golly gee people to seem likable, but he definitely whined when things didn't go his way. Look back to his comments about Alabama playing Miami in 1992.

No offense, but it sounds like you are practicing to be a Barner :)

Mack is the one responsible for their lack of a running game. He is the reason Colt was running an option and was the RB on that play. Mack is the one responsible for putting his QB in a position where you know he will get hit by a 300lb lineman. There's a reason why pro teams don't take this risk and give the ball to a RB instead.

Also McElroy could have just as easily re-inured his ribs and been taken out and we would have had a true freshman QB in the game too. The difference is Saban did all he could to protect McElroy from being hit.

Called for you Horns...it should be arriving shortly.

This is as good a thread as any to post this.

I'm sure the Texas fans feel they probably would have won with McCoy in. If I were them, I'm sure I'd feel the same way. The way we were sputtering around out there at times, it's possible we could have lost with McCoy playing. It's also very possible we would have won.

But you can't ask, "What if McCoy had played" without also asking some other questions:

What if Dont'a Hightower had played? Dont'a would have been another McClain/Dareus caliber of athlete on the field ... and our best pass rusher.

What if Ro had been 100 per cent instead of still feeling the effects of the stomach virus? What if McElroy wasn't playing with cracked ribs? What if Marquis Johnson didn't have a bum thumb?

What if we hadn't lost Ingram to leg cramps for a key portion of the second half when Texas was making their comeback?

What if Damion Square had played? Another potential big play pass rusher.

What if Sam Bradford had not gone down in the UT/OU game ... would UT even have been there last night?

I'm just saying, when you start asking what ifs, you can't just pick and choose.

McCoy going out had a big impact on the game, no question. It's even possible it made a difference in the outcome ... no one knows. (Coach Brown's "It wouldn't even have been close" is laughable.)

As I say, if I were a UT fan I'm sure I'd feel my team lost because of an injury. But it's part of the game ... and it's not like Colt hurt himself on some freak practice injury. Bama knocked him out with physical football.

It is what it is.

Come on man...we had a completely different game plan for McCoy compared to Gilbert. :rolleye2:

But, when it comes down to it, we will never know how things would've worked out if Colt isn't injured.

People can speculate all they like about ifs and buts; however, at the end of the day, Bama won the game. I would be rich if I had invested in Microsoft in the 80's, but I didn't, and I'm not. We won, and we are the national champs. Roll Tide.

Would Hitler have become a genocidal maniac if his art teacher hadn't told him his work sucked? Does it matter?

Even if Colt wouldn't have gotten hurt on the first drive, he wouldn't have lasted past the first quarter had he tried to run much more on our defense. He got hurt on the first. hit. he took. It didn't even look that bad, though Dareus did have a lot of momentum, Colt didn't land funny or anything. It what's Mack gets for not putting enough stock into size for his team. You can't run all over Big XII defenses like Colt did A&M and expect to do the same against an SEC defense, sorry, but you have to have size, too. It's not coincidence that we knocked LSU's quarterback and running back out of the game. You have to be big and strong in order to take hits from our defense.

And I had actually started liking Mack, but that is the most unproffessionall thing I've ever heard a coach not name Lane Kiffin say following a game. Can you imagine Saban saying that? Saban would be all, "You've got to give them credit, aight, because they weren't thinking about the outcome, aight, they were focused on the process, and they deserve this."

And the way I see it Texas owed us a victory anyway.

CNS called off the dogs and started running clock half way through the second quarter. He didn't pick it up again until the 9 minute or so mark.

Maybe if Mack had recruited a good running back "it wouldn't even have been close." He needs to look in the mirror.

This is one great thing about our team. We have multiple options on offense. We don't put all of our eggs in one basket. At the beginning of the year, people were talking about Julio as a possible Heisman winner. After the first four games, people were talking about McElroy for the Heisman. At the end of the year, Ingram won the Heisman. It really wouldn't surprise me if Richardson were in contention for it next year as crazy as that may sound. Our receivers each had times when they stepped up to make plays this year. It is called depth, and Texas should have developed their depth more. I think that QB showed he has the talent to be a special player, but he wasn't ready to play. Of course, our backup QB's would have likely looked the same. It is just hard to get meaningful playing time at that position while trying to win games.
Look, I think the game would have been much different if McCoy had been healthy. He is an All-American player and has shown his ability over the years. However, he got hurt, and we won. Roll Tide.

It would be fun to ask Brown this question at the press conference:

Coach, let's talk about injured QBs and the difference that can make in a game. If it weren't for the injury to the star QB, do you think Texas would have won? Oh--to be clear--I'm talking about your game with Oklahoma earlier in the season. Would you agree it wouldn't have even been close if Bradford had stayed in the game?

We will always hear the "Alabama won after McCoy left the game due to an injury" stuff. I wonder if Texas had won would be given the same consideration such as, "Texas won the NC due to McElroy having two cracked ribs from a previous injury in the SECCG"? I think not....I think not.
