Funny Dooley Quote

With all the negativity surrounding that program, along with all the bad that's happened causing expectations to drop, go ahead and shoot me for saying this, but I wouldn't be shocked if Tennessee ended up surprising a few people this year.

I don't know. With his status as a Saban disciple he may want to make an extra review of his safe practice habits. What is it now? Two (potential) DL starters gone for the year? But, both are achilles and I dont know if you can really do much to prevent that as far as practice philosophy. He'll definitely want to keep the rest as healthy as possible though. I honestly don't know if I've ever seen a head coach step into a known bad situation and have this much bad luck right off the bat added to it.:conf2:
 
I think UT will be horrible. Their problems are so vast, they may as well impose sanctions on themselves. Their problems seem to be compounding and may yet worsen before the season even starts. I hope it continues honestly.

Forget all this "respectable rival" stuff. UT and many of their fans threw that away 10+ years ago. Dooley might be an alirght guy, that sucks for him, but I don't see them competing for anything of worth for years. At least not until Saban and Meyer retire.

It will take Coach Dooley a couple of years of recruiting and weeding out the trouble-makers before he starts to compete with the big boys, but I can see it coming. Let's not forget Coach Saban's first year. He sure didn't waste any time running some of those slackers off and bringing in more committed players.
 
VF1, Dooley may be the only bright spot in Knoxville for quite a long while. Hold on to him, and pay no heed to the fat man behind the curtain.

We've been there, which will bring you the sympathy of some, but it was at the hands of Fulmer and Co., which will deny you the sympathy of others. I'm somewhat torn myself - I'm willing to sympathize with individual fans, but I have a tough time blissfully forgetting everything...
 
UT is certainly going to be weak this year. I am torn because I like Dooley but despise what members of that program did to the Tide (OK some of it we did to ourselves). The only reason I want them to improve is that it is better for us to beat a good UT team, home and away, versus the other conferences and those idiots who contribute to the polls. Beating up on an insignificant team is good in that the back ups get field experience, but bad in the overall goal which is to win NCs.

My thoughts exactly. You took the words right out of my mouth! I heard Dooley speak at the Bama Coach's Clinic 2 years ago and got a lot out of it. He will bring some class back to UT, but it will take years to fully restore the program. Roll TIDE!

Dooley is in a tough spot. Probably no coach in the country would have much success at UT this season, considering what they have to work with and the problems they have had. But just watch, the UT faithful will be screaming for Dooley's head before the season is over. I've snooped around a little on VolNation, and overall the fans there just don't seem like they have bought into having Dooley as there coach, and not nearly as much as they did for that idiot they had for 14 months that bailed on them. With some patience from their fans and given enough time, CDD could very well right the ship for them.

Torn achilles can most often be prevented by proper stretching before workouts/practice/games...that's why those pre practice stretches that Cochran does are SOOOO important...and it is no accident that we've avoided many "nongame" injuries...

This is where Dooley has a chance to pick up a year on the rebuild schedule. CNS has admitted that against his better judgement he didn't "clean house" when he got here. Meaning he had identified some guys that weren't going to buy in and tried to bring them around to his way of thinking. In the end most of those guys never bought in and held us back. He has said that probably pushed the progress of the program back by a year.

I'm not sure Dooley has enough depth to run anyone off and still field a team.
 
CDD is right on with his quote. Many are saying this team has the weakest roster since Doug Dickey's first year. After our first team which is nothing to brag about, we really drop off in talent. But I do believe he's the right man for the job.

Its funny to hear all CDD's post practice comments...he has so many Sabanisms. As far as our Ben Martin and Marlon Walls, our two guys with the achillies injuries, it's worth noting neither one of them were able to go through Bennie Wylies summer workout program.

There simply isn't much of a quick path for achilles tendon injuries. You will especially miss Walls.

Destin, you and VolFan1 and a couple of other UT guys have managed to keep a thick skin over here. You'll need to grow it even thicker in the next year or two as the national media piles on, but stick in there anyhow. Dooley seems solid, and that's what you need right now, so give him a chance. You're welcome here any time, although the week preceding the third Saturday in October might get rough. Good luck.
