I havent seen any other threads about him lately so I wanna be the first to thank him for all of the great Alabama moments he has created. He was such a great leader both on and off the field. I am going to go ahead and go out on a limb and say he is the best QB to ever play at Bama. He may not have had the amazing star power others have had but he has done all the right things for the University. Thanks Greg. Roll Tide Roll!!!!:BigA:

No matter what some may think, he is leaving some really big shoes to fill. I hated seeing him coming within 13 yards of 3000 yards passing. I gotta think the staff didn't know he was that close. I would have loved to see that be exclaimation point of his career, but he'll always be one of my favorite players!

He led us to a national championship. What more is there to ask of a QB? Thanks for the memories GMac.

Back when I was in the band I was walking up the sideline at the bowl game(Independence?) when I saw him tossing passes with another QB. I recognized his name, walked up to him and asked if he was the fellow from Texas. When he said yes, I patted him on the shoulder and said, "You came to the right place. You'll see." Am glad I got to be correct.

Greg is a great player! I am glad that he came here, and I appreciate him! Post game presser: ""The only time that I can get credit for doing any kind of physical play...its cause Julio set it up" I am going to miss him along with all of the guys leaving. I ain't going to go into how a cried after Cody left...*sniff* needless to say I hate that they got to go, but I hope they go on to greatness.

I to am going to miss him, He is a great leader, and a great field general. He is also one of Bama's best QB's of all time. And i'm sure he has come to the realization that he made the right choice coming here.
Thanks for all of it G Mac.
I wish you good luck in where ever life takes you.

I hope that Greg enters the NFL draft. He's developed a lot this season as a QB, and he's football brain is second to none. He's got all the intangibles and should be a good pick up for a team looking to develop their QB with a late round pick. Remember that Tom Brady was a 6th round pick out of Michigan.

Game manager, my crimson-colored pitouey . . . Because of our injuries and our inability to block consistently, Greg was our most important offensive player for the past two years. The game he played yesterday was one highlight after another.

Thanks Greg. Go have a terrific life. :BigA:

Like all of us, I really look forward to see what the next team and the new kids can do. But Greg set a standard as a player and a leader that will be almost impossible to match. What a performance to go out on. What a career. What a loss.

I agree with both of you...he was very underestimated as a qb.
Best of luck GMac, thanks for all you did for our favorite team and university. You represented both very well...we will miss seeing you in Crimson...RTR!

I have been and always will be a Greg McElroy fan. We have some big shoes to fill next year. It will take more than a big arm to replace him. His durability is something that hasn't been mentioned. The last 5 yrs we have been spoiled by JPW and Gmac as far as them taking hits and gettin back up and calling another play. I will always mention GMac as one of our great QB's. I think to say the Best QB to ever play at Bama is a stretch however.

At first, I thought this thread was from Julio thanking him for the great block yesterday :biggrin2:

I agree with what's been said, he will be missed. I enjoyed watching him play. GMac was a great leader and I wish him the best!

Greg, you have proven yourself over and above anything I could have imagined in the last couple of years. Not only in the football arena, but most importantly the academic arena as well. I can't imagine how proud your parents and family are of you, but know that you have left a lasting impression on us all with the accomplishments that you have achieved.

My family and I hope and pray that you will have continued success in whatever endevour you choose, and know that we will cherish the time that you allowed us to watch you grow into the leader that you are. I know whatever you choose to do, you will be a success.

Good Luck my friend,
Bama Greg

Many thanks to Greg for his years of hard work, study, devotion to his teammates, and repeated demonstrations of toughness on the field of play. He represents the university better than any QB in my memory, in terms of his well-roundedness, how well-spoken he is, and just his classiness in general. I do believe we made an Alabama Man out of that Texas boy!

That's actually a perfect note for Greg to leave on. He has never been about stats, records or personal accomplishments. Greg focused on doing whatever the coaches told him would make the team better.

Thank you Greg for going out there week in and week out and executing the game plan the coaches gave you to the best of your ability. Through concussions and cracked ribs, high points and slumps, on and off the field you played your best and did your best to elevate those around you.

You will be missed at the Capstone, but we look forward to you being a great ambassador for our beloved University of Alabama. Roll Tide!
