Astounded at CBS

Re: why does Tim Brando have an agenda against Bama!

Does anyone want to take an over/under on how many times Danielson will reference last year's Iron Bowl and Cam Newton in tomorrow's broadcast? In the UGA/Barn game I kept track. Seven Scam references in the first quarter alone.

Anyone know if there is a way to sync Eli Gold's announcing with the CBS broadcast?

My guess is that as long as it's close Danielson will be talking about it.

Oops. Come to think of it, if it becomes a blowout he'll try to keep the audience tuned in with, "Hey, they blew it last year folks!"

Re: why does Tim Brando have an agenda against Bama!

I hate Tim "I coulda been A contendaaa" Brando.

For those who don't remember. He was the LSU Beat Reporter and later Sports Caster for channel 9 WAFB in Baton Rouge

I want to point something out here that really is just kinda setting me off as my "superior autobiographical memory" tunes in.

I remember 1992 vividly. ESPN (oh btw a guy named Brando worked there at the time) was vilifying us, calling us "undeserving" and repeatedly insisting that "Miami and Florida State are the two best teams in the nation." They even brought Corky Simpson into the fray, telling everyone he was the singular voter who didn't have a lick of sense when we were 7-0 and had "barely beaten La Tech."

Then the Sugar Bowl was actually played. 34-13. The same news media that wanted a rematch then - in the final poll - had Florida State AHEAD of Miami despite the inconvenient fact that Miami had beaten them head-to-head. It was a final slap in the face of the Tide, suggesting that had we played Florida State then we would have lost. (It was left to one of my LEAST favorite pundits, Mike Lupica, to put the brakes on when other "Sports Reporters" said, "Well, Florida State is playing the best at the end of the year." His comeback was, "Well, we hear that every year, but they always choke in the one game they need to win. You can't do that and be the best."

Fast forward one year, 1993. And the most irrational hype-fest in NCAA history.

All year long it was the Super Bowl. Florida State-Notre Dame. The Noles were trailing 31-10 but came back to almost tie it. So they only dropped to number two. DURING THE FREAKING GAME they were already talking rematch on NBC. There was another unbeaten sure to run the table - Nebraska. So over the course of the next week, the TV pundits ran Nebraska into the ground. This same team, after all, was compiling a long losing streak in the bowl games and had already lost THREE TIMES to FSU in the previous six years in bowl games. They were trashed from one end of the universe to the other as "undeserving."

Too bad Notre Dame had to lose the next week to Boston College. They plummeted in the polls.

The moment Notre Dame lost guess what happened? The very same pundits who trashed Nebraska suddenly looked and said, "Hey, if Nebraska wins out then Nebraska-FSU would be a FANTASTIC game." Bunch of liars. Left out in this mix was West Virginia. The same press now ran West Virginia in the ground, telling us they didn't play anybody - never mind that West Virginia beat the same BC team that Notre Dame couldn't. Never mind that WVA played in the same conference as Miami - and nobody ever questioned Miami's soft-touch schedule despite the fact the only difference between the two was Miami played Florida State.

So we got stuck with FSU-Nebraska. The refs basically gave the Noles the game and Bobby Bowden a Lifetime Achievement Award.

I've actually been a tad bit happy there hasn't been much talk about the virtues of a rematch. But let's be honest - why did they praise Nebraska and run down WVA? Simple. Nebraska has a national following, WVA does not. Alabama benefits the same way with OK State, which is why it's a good thing OU went down last week.

CBS is just afraid that the BCS title game will break all records for viewership of college ball - and it won't be their network that does it.

Re: why does Tim Brando have an agenda against Bama!

I have hated the SEC/CBS deal for a long time. Verne is an idiot and Gary is not far behind. Both, and CBS, for that matter are anti BAMA. Actually they are anti anyone not named LSU, Tebow, or $cam. It disgusts me to listen to these morons. I wish the SEC would move to ESPN/ABC for good and be done with the CBS zoo.

Before Twitter, facebook,Internet, and yes even cable TV is when Alabama really got jipped because of the North Eastern Press they were like Gods in full control of college football.

I remember waiting to see how many times Alabama was allowed to play on tv that year, usually twice & sometimes maybe 3 & the IB was not always one of those games. It is a lot better now than back then but make no mistake if you want to look it it Alabama could easily be playing for a 20th Championship not 14. the bias was glaring back then Ara Parasagin & Frank Broyles Hated I mean Hated Alabama & made it clear on tv.

I say all this for the Real Alabama fans understand that this is just the way it is, everyone is looking to knock off the top program, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!

This is Never gonna change, so Enjoy our games and relax in the fact you know better. Although the system we have today is not perfect, it is now where near the back rooms deals that made Notre Dame & other Northern Programs.

As a whole, the SEC should tell CBS to shut their pie hole up. To me the decision by CBS to allow their guys to sphew the venom of another SEC team should not be allowed a rematch is beyond reason to me.

CBS should do better to marketing the SEC than to tear it down. For example, all their prime time games should be at night. Why not use this potential rematch as a lead in to next years season on CBS as the SEC is the best conference in America.

Frankly, I still miss Ron Franklin and Mike Gottfried. This was the best duo ever for SEC games. They called it like they saw it and didn't try to push their own personal agenda's. Danielson especially has an ego the size of Montana and thinks he is smarter than us SEC rednecks.

Very true.

Consider the 1960 AP Final Poll.

On what planet is a 4-4-1 Purdue team ranked in the Top 20? That's a SUB-.500 record.

Oh, they played in the Big Ten, which everyone knows it the toughest conference, right?

That wasn't East Coast Bias but an unconstitutional law.

Would the guys at NBC preach against Notre Dame if they were in Alabama's place?

Brando is a blatant LSU homer. He has never been anything but an LSU supporter and he makes no apologies for that. He also has shown a dislike for Bama over the years. Him and his sidekick whats his name that looks like little Richard seem to pull against Bama more often than not.

As far as Dern Vernkisk and Gary Diddleson they both make my skin crawl. For some reason this year Diddleson acts like he has stock in LSU.

The bottom line is none of the CBS guys want to see a rematch. The reason being, they know if there is a rematch that Bama will win the game. There is no way LSU could beat Bama twice this season.

Like others I will be listening to CTSN and Eli Gold call the game with CBS turned down to a whisper in the background.

I read a quote from Danielson in USA Today a couple of days ago in which he said that LSU and Bama should have agreed before the game on 11/5 that the loser would bow out of the national championship race. The most ridiculous comment I have ever heard. I think he does a decent job of in-game analysis; but any other time he opens his mouth (other than commenting on the play that just occured), he shows just how much of a boob he is.

When you compute winning percentages, ties count as a half-win. So yes, 4-4-1 is .500 (4.5 wins out of 9 games). But still, your point's well taken.

OK. I wasn't trying to be snide or channel my inner Gary Danielson, but anyway...

It just looked to me as if, "Well, they won four out of nine games," so OK. Error acknowledged.

I am having a hard time with CBS' anti-Bama statements. On the CBS halftime report Spencer the guy that looks like Little Richard just said that Auburn has held TR in check. He listed his yards and said TR has no TDs. I guess that TD catch that TR had is not counted in his mind. He said twice that TD has no TDs. He did not say rushing TDs, but that he has no TDs. These guys kill me. How do they keep their jobs? That is the amazing part. CBS is terrible. TR is going for the Heisman, the only SEC candidate that has a chance and they can't even give him a little support. Really?

Yeah, and love or hate ABC/ESPN, they tout the positives of the conferences that they're paying millions of dollars to show on television for the most part. I agree, the entire CBS crew - from the studio to the booth - are puzzling at the very least with their anti-SEC venom (especially anti-Bama).

Why? Was that the only game played in all of college football this season that counts?
