SEC scheduling alternative

I can see something like this happening only if the championship game rule is revoked (the Mr. SEC article mentions this). The only way I see that happening is as part of a deal due to some conference champion requirement in a +1 format.

This is a good plan (though I would change up some of the permanent rivals). I have also seen a good plan that has four permanent rivals and four rotating ones. This allows every SEC team to play every other SEC team at least twice every five years.
The two top teams playing will usually guarantee that the two highest ranked teams are playing. (This will be important if a plus-one depends on rankings)
The SEC should NOT go to 9 regular season conference games. This would mean a team has to play 10 conference games to be SEC champion. Too many.
The SEC has won 10 of the last 20 National Championships playing 8 regular season games. Lets not mess with a good thing!

I applaud the effort, for instance I can certainly see that being a tolerable schedule for Alabama (since Vandy is back on the schedule, otherwise it's fairly brutal, four out of five permanent opponents are top 20 teams?), but it's impossible to do that and make it balanced.

This would wreak havoc with deciding who plays on the conference championship game, etc...

The only problem with this proposal is that it won't fly with the NCAA. The league requires that in order to stage a conference championship game, the conference must be split into divisions and each team must play a round-robin schedule to determine the divisional champs.

Once again, the complaints coming from the media are driving this. People are whining over the fact that with a 6-1-1 schedule format, you play rotating members of the other division once every generation or so. I saw, so what?

Leave it at the current format and you let Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Kentucky all play traditional rivalries, including those in your division, in the other division, and even in other conferences. You also don't need any special waivers from the NCAA.

This system isn't broken.

The SEC needs to grow a set and understand that CONTENT is their biggest competitive advantage. Nine conference is just the starting point.

If I had it my way, all BCS teams would only be allowed to play one another. And while your at it, throw in a couple of extra open dates to extend the season.

The way Saban recruits would give Alabama a tremendous advantage.

It's all messed up!! This is the reason I never want the SEC expansion. It is only adding to the headaches!!
It's not messed up, it's a non issue people are making into an issue. So a revolving game is lost, who cares? Is there any revolving game you just couldn't do without? The only one that seemed to hold any real emphasis was Florida when they were at their best and Vandy, because that game seems like it should be part of Alabama's schedule.

Appears everyone is keeping a permenant opponent. According to aTm president, they are being matched with USC.

Assume that means Arky is getting Mizzou. I guess all the others remain:

AU-UGA
UA-TN
LSU-UF
Ole Miss-Vandy
Miss St-KY

I guess the question is do we go to 9 or, take 10 years between seeing UF, And UGA? The others i could really give a rats rear if we play frequently.

I just love barner foamer chuck olivers ideas for the boogs supposed permanent opponents vs Bamas in this article.
Every time I turn around the barners are continuosly getting help from the sec with their softly arranged schedules to
help them get an automatic 7 win season. I say that the boogs get t a&m,lsu, uga,ua and tenn;
then let us have his idea of the boogs schedule and see how many winning seasons and irrelevant they become.

I have my own ideas on the schedules (like everyone else) but the only thing of any real importance to me is to play a schedule that will keep you ranked highly. Roll Tide.
