Two things that will get you booted quickly (spreading rumors and profanity). How ironic that I am the one talking about the dangers of profanity.

I understand that, but i've never heard of a board consider that word profanity. I run a very busy board (not cfb), so i've read many, many boards. If it were considered profanity, all of those posts in the link i provided should have already led to the word being placed on the "banned" list long ago.

Question: when was the last time you signed a top-rated recruit from CA? I can't seem to recall anyone.

Before Saban, the question needed to be when was the last time we signed a top-rated recruit from anywhere not in the South East. With Saban, we seem to have no geographic issues. If you look at this class very few are from Alabama. It reminds me of Pete Carroll's hey day.

Doc, well said. I get a bit fed up with Bruin fans posting how weare a lock to sign ____, and that is especially true in regards to EV. He hasn't hinted one way or another. I remember when he was a lock to go to southern cal not too long ago. Now it appears they are out of it.

I have no clue.

I have the same saying it's down to UCLA and Bama.

And others saying it's down to UCLA and ND, with Bama's chances decreasing.

My point was that there is no way anyone can say that UCLA has been eliminated from consideration, especially when considering how close to the vest he and his family have played this.

My sources relayed to me that EV told the staff it was a two team battle between UA and ND at the beginning of his weekend. You can TIFWIW...

I have zero inside information. However, I personally find it hard to believe EV has COMPLETELY ruled out UCLA. I would guess that the messages about him being determined to leave the state have more to do with being determined to not let distance being an issue. I also have difficulties believing he ruled out Notre Dame or Alabama! It's easy to forget just how torn any of us would be when faced with such a monumental decision with so many intricate factors playing in to our decision. It seems that in this case, EV is not afraid of being far from home, is not afraid of competition, wants to be in a successful environment, and wants to feel he "fits in" with the school's environment. Each of these three schools are VERY different outside the lines. Perhaps there is a strong argument for each beyond football and beyond distance and beyond weather! I personally think he's leaning Alabama, but would not be stunned if he chose any of these 3 schools. And the only reason I'd be suprised he picks USC is because of CLKs blunders with Fitts et al.

As far as distance goes, his family is still probably getting on a plane to see him play in Los Angeles. Auburn to the UCLA campus is a 6 hour drive in no traffic whatsoever - in reality it's probably closer to a 7.5 - 8 hour drive.

6.5 hours tops. Then again, an hour flight would be even more appealing.

Doc, you're right. Southern cal has been getting killed here over that Fitts blunder. That being said, he and his parents visited south central LA last night.

In recruiting, anything beyond 200 miles and/or a 4 hours drive is generally considered a reach. It's one of the reasons why UF & FSU can recruit well against UGA in south georgia.

Also, unless a person charters a flight or is flying into and out of a very small aiport, a "1 hour flight" involves much more travel time than just 1 hour.

Ok , i didn't know the cutoff on driving time ; )

Just for reference, they'd be flying into Burbank to go to the Rose Bowl. Very easy to get in and out of and no more than 15 minutes away.

It's not a hard fast rule and it certainly is bendable when it comes to geographically large states. It basically boils down to what is considered a day trip vs an overnight stay.

It kind of follows an asymptotic curve - once you get beyond a certain distance, it no longer becomes a factor.

I'm used to the Atlanta airport so I usually have to add about 3-4 hours round-trip to any flight.

Are you a Bama fan? Or just hanging out here? I can't tell from your posts....

You must drive much faster than I. Also, when I say "in reality," I'm assuming the average person will need to stop for gas and/or food in the span of 6-7 hours and I've never been on a freeway in or around LA when I didn't spend a length of time below 25 mph and/or stopped - so I included that assumption as well.

ykeah, i was just kidding. If they had to fly ito LAX, it would be a different story. I avoid that place like the plague. Luckily, flights from socal to norcal run all day, every day.
