I hope step two is to shoot when we drive to the basket. Hopefully step three will be to shoot the open jumpers.
 
I noticed a difference on offense as well. We seemed to have more urgency in it. Also, the commentators made a good point that we need to continue setting better screens and running the defenders into the screens to get separation. Even tho we had lapses in concentration i really enjoyed seeing us raise our mental toughness by grinding this win out and not wilting under the pressure. I will say it again, the growth and confidence of other players, like Cooper and Levi, to look for their shots really help. Kudos as well to Retin earning more playing time on the court thru practicing hard. You can tell he raises the intensity when he is in the game. I like his hustle and explosiveness on that dunk. sorry for rambling.

We still had like 40 points with about 3 minutes left in the game, the two 3's and the free throws are all that got us into the 50's.

The good news is that we don't really let many teams score on us so we are in the game.

It's a shame that some head scratcher out of conference games and that dang loss to Auburn are probably gonna keep us from dancing.

Glad to get a win but this team is frustrating to watch. Not very fundamentally sound but most young teams aren't. UK was the exception last year not the rule.

We could easily be 21-3 & 10-1 in SEC play but it could also be much worse. RTR.
 
That AU loss isn't any worse than losing to Mercer or Tulane. Way over 100 in RPI rating. Seems like another team was low too. Gotta win the games you are supposed to. The only good thing is a lot of places are down too. Bama may end up with a really solid conf. record and the road wins do matter.
 
yea while the NCAA tourney is a goal we need to continue to see this team improve game by game. we are in the midst of a stretch that can see us put a bunch of wins together. we can still play our way into the tourney and even if we don't, our improvement matters most. we return everyone but Steele next year so the next two years should really be special in ttown. looking at our team we are recruiting 3 and 4 year players so consistently staying at the top of the league should not be a problem.

May be but I'm not going there yet. One game at a time and see where this team takes us. With the limitations they've had to deal with and overcome this can be considered a successful season no matter what. Of course I hope we can still make the dance somehow but I'll just hope they can keep playing tough and finish well in the conference. Then who knows? Hopefully really good things may yet happen.

For this team with it's current make up to be 16-8 and 8-3 in the conference exemplifies one of the best all around coaching efforts in the nation this season.
It looked like things were going downward at a rocket pace.
Coach Grant made adjustments and righted the ship.
Great coaches do that when things are looking bleak.
This is not a great basketball team by any means of the imagination and when all is said and done, may not make the tourney.
But I don't think I've ever seen a Bama team that gave more effort 98% of the time.
I like this team a lot and I like our coach a lot.

A couple of weeks ago Releford was at the free throw line and I thought, "You're holding the ball too long....shoot the dadgum thing".
He's definitely hesitating for some reason and it's hurting his free throw accuracy a bunch.
 
Well, we got a great win on the road, but that loss to Auburn is just too bad of a loss to overcome. That is upsetting. Maybe if we can upset Florida at their place we can get in. Winning the SEC tourney is hard to do for us right now, but we do have a shot. I just don't want it to come down to that. That Ole Miss game should be a good one as well.
 
Lets face facts. The SEC is not as good as many mid major conferences this year. We got soundly beat by several average mid majors earlier in the year (Dayton, and Mercer). We are improving, but don't go overboard with the gushing about this team. We still have some obvious weaknesses. Our post play is somewhat better, but it is still a big hole going forward. We made an all american out of their big slow white guy in the 1st half. Our offense is still a work in progress as well. We've got help on the way though, and next year will tell the tale.

We really need him to get his touch back. Gotta have those FTs. We almost blew the LSU game because of it. This team has to scratch for everything they get.

I told my wife last night that there is no way I could make free throws using his routine but if it's what he is comfortable with then okay for him...

I think it says a lot about this conference that we should be 10-1 right now. That concerns me when it comes to how many NCAA bids SEC will get.

I think we need to win the next 4, then split at Ole Miss or UF. Beat UGA in teh finale and then maybe get one in the SECT could do it. UA would be 22-10 at that point.

It really hurts us not to get a shot at Ole Miss at home this year, cause we struggle at Oxford much like in Nashville.
 
Someone earlier mentioned the sense of urgency on offense and I think that is the biggest thing that lacks. We don't ever set screens where I'm like wow that was effective. I'm not sure if that's because we don't have a big man who could even catch a pass off a pick and roll or what but we never seem to put effort into screens.

It's like Saban says you have to take care of the little things and the big things work out. To me on offense we don't do the little things right with enough consistency. There is just generally a lack of purpose.

It's good that the team hasn't quit and keeps fighting and is managing to win games even with the limitations they have.

I think they had more "clock sense" last night. They also had a lot more motion. As I said in the game thread, it looks like CAG has taken some of the restraints off Hipsher and therefore the kids. I agree that the screens seem to be a waste of clock. It's not that the screens don't get set. I don't blame the big guys. However, the guards aren't "scraping off" the screener, giving time for the defender to run around the screener and arrive at the shooting spot simultaneously with the shooter. Worse, since we don't have a second big to dump into when one is screening, other teams recognize that and double the screen. This gives the shooter the problem of facing an immediate double team instead of a clean shot...
