I am a member of the Tuscaloosa Tip Off Club, and we had Gerald Boudreaux as a guest speaker back in November. He said that in the SEC, the officials are paid anywhere from $2600-$3000 per game. However, they are not given any travel money and are required to get to each game on their own dime. So, you have to figure that at the very least, they are probably clearing $2000 per game. I don't know how it works in other conferences, but I assume that it is somewhat comparable. Boudreaux said that the SEC was at the top of the pay scale. He further said that up until a few years ago, they got travel money, but they made the decision a few years ago to pay them more and let them arrange their own travel.
If you look around and see these guys who are doing 4-5 games per week, it's easy to do the math. If the pay in other conferences is anywhere close to similar, these guys are making more in one basketball season than most of us will make in a year.
