****Bama vs. LSU Postgame Thread***

I totally agree and here's the kicker --- we were the team up by 10 points!!! If the roles had been reversed and we were losing by 10 trying to get back in the game, I can see why we would have been fouling. But to be up by double digits, less than three minutes in the game and we're getting no calls????

I'm putting this game in the rearview and hope the team can fight to the finish, regardless of circumstance.
Exactly right. The poster Earle suspended posted the last LSU game's stats where Bama had more FTs. However, you can tell LSU fouled to keep the game going. Why would a team up by 10 want to do that?

He was obnoxious under his old identity. I can't believe it took me as long to realize who he was...

The refs were bad for sure but our guys missed some easy under the basket or near the basket shots that were not really contested at the end of the game too. And It was Jacobs, Lacey and Releford that missed the shots of all players, the ones who are our best offensively. Missing shots like that on the road against home cooking usually spells doom in a close game. I am just proud they didn't get blown out with the way the refs called it. ;)

I agree that we had chances to win, even with the thumb on the scale. In fact, when we built the lead up to 10, I thought we had it despite them...

Well, even though these guys are technically independent contractors, their game performance is still subject to review by Shaw. I've never done it before, but I'm going to write him and urge that this crew not be allowed to officiate another game in our conference. Let'em go somewhere else with their whistles...

Gerald Boudreaux is head of SEC basketball officials

I don't wish being banned on anyone, but in MrRourke's case I'll make an exception. That guy was ridiculous.
The name even says something about attitude to me...like..."My names Rourke..and that's MISTER Rourke to you."
I think he was more like the backside of Mr. Ed rather than Mr. Rourke. :)

I just wish Grant would have said something about the refs to the media and taken the fine or what ever happens.

Sadly it would come off as whining to people who didn't see it. I'd rather have officials have to be in a press conference and have to answer questions. They get to leave the game with no problem.

Yep, and that's already been discussed, if you'll read a little further...

Sorry, I hit the reply button when I saw your post.

I am a member of the Tuscaloosa Tip Off Club, and we had Gerald Boudreaux as a guest speaker back in November. He said that in the SEC, the officials are paid anywhere from $2600-$3000 per game. However, they are not given any travel money and are required to get to each game on their own dime. So, you have to figure that at the very least, they are probably clearing $2000 per game. I don't know how it works in other conferences, but I assume that it is somewhat comparable. Boudreaux said that the SEC was at the top of the pay scale. He further said that up until a few years ago, they got travel money, but they made the decision a few years ago to pay them more and let them arrange their own travel.

If you look around and see these guys who are doing 4-5 games per week, it's easy to do the math. If the pay in other conferences is anywhere close to similar, these guys are making more in one basketball season than most of us will make in a year.

I hope he didn't give the impression that they are officiating only in the SEC, because that's simply not true. Those located towards the middle will largely officiate here because of travel cost. Those in the peripheral areas officiate in other conferences in easy traveling distance. That's been the case for years now...

..it escapes me, but then again it's 5:37am on Monday morning lol...

John Wayne?

It was really telling how limited the basketball knowledge was (while accusing other posters of lack of basketball knowledge) when in the Auburn game thread a post about not pressing was made, and that the reason we weren't doing it was due to lack of attitude. Well, most people know that teams can't set up the press off of missed FG attempts :conf2:.

Here are the schedules of the three refs from the game. You'll see two things: the total number of fouls from Saturday sticks out compared to other games officiated by any of the 3, and they all travel.

Mike Kitts

James Barker

Tim Gattis

Staff actions between staff and a member are strictly private...They are not up for discussion. /.02

I looked in there but could not figure out what you were looking that serves your point. I would be interested in seeing what you are looking at...

When I say the refs travel, I was supporting Earle's point in the quoted post. Mike Kitts has officiated in 20 different states this year. James Barker has called games in 14 different states. Tim Gattis has been to 15 states to officiate.

In regards to my comment about the fouls, look at the total number of fouls called in the game compared to each ref's other games. The game had 46 fouls called. Look at the below table of each referee's total number of games, number of 40+ foul games, and foul per game average for the season.

Gattis has been in 40+ foul games, but all were at least 12 fouls over their average.
