Link: Bama's Best BBQ

This bracket is jacked up in multiple ways:

-The regional nature giving an imperfect balance: The quality from the northern half of the state outweighs the quality from the southern half.
-Archibald's getting an 8 seed, below the likes of Full Moon and Moe's.
-No Bob Sykes.

Like all things BBQ, the negative reactions to this have been numerous.

At least we have a BBQ thread about BBQ instead of someone making an statement about a joint and hijacking a thread

I haven't eaten at all those places in the bracket but I can tell you from someone who BBQ's like a drug addict seeks after their next high. Archibalds is the real deal. Dreamland shouldn't even be on the list.

Also, I haven't eaten at the Moe's in Birmingham but I've eaten at the one in Orange Beach. Very disappointed.

I tried their combination plate of ribs, sausage and pulled pork. Again, this was not the one in Birmingham but in Orange Beach last June. Not impressed relative to all the online rave reviews.

I've only eaten at their original Alabama location in Lakeview (Birmingham) and almost always get something other than pork. I do think their ribs are good but different than what you'd expect.

They seem to be mostly concerned with expanding now as they have about 5 locations in Birmingham and I didn't even know they had one at the beach. Whenever that happens the quality always takes a dive.

They don't realize the difference between grilling and BBQ'n.

I can make better BBQ than most BBQ places so it sets the bar pretty high. I can see how it is harder to maintain quality on a large pit vs my small smoker. Still though, most of it is crap. If the restaurant has to drown it in sauce, it was probably never any good and they know it.

I'm a backyard warrior myself. I do my own rubs and sauce, cook over lump charcoal with a mix of hickory and oak wood. Been doing this for about 12 years. I'm what you would call a "BBQ Snob". But I've learned that cooking backyard Q and restaurant Q are two totally different environments.

Backyard Q you can pay more attention to the four or five slabs you have on the pit. But when you're catering to an unknown mass number of people it is much, much harder to keep it consistent. That is why I "grade" restaurant Q on a different set of criteria than backyard Q. Backyard Q SHOULD be much better than restaurant Q.

I haven't eaten at all the places in the brackets, either. But the best barbq I've had in Alabama is 231 BarBQ on hwy 231 just out side Midland City.

I'm in Montgomery this week on business and I ate at the Jim 'N' Nicks here on Atlanta Hwy because I love the ones around B'ham.

Man what a let down, I got Baby Back's and they were hard as a brick.

Sure wasn't what I was expecting from them.
