DL Eddie Vanderdoes signs with ND

I'll be the sour apple. IF this young man did not inform the Bama staff of his decision early on and thereby precluded another from joining the Bama class, that is very selfish behavior. I said IF. Reed, Bell or Poggi could have POSSIBLY signed.
Hopefully this was not the case, and at any rate I wish him well.

I really hope that wasn't the case. I really wanted this young man in crimson. Still wont wish him ill though... But the Tide rolls on.

Barring someone misleading Alabama deliberately (EV, or Conner), I think it was simply a choice Alabama made. Saban stressed that they could have made more room, and if they had Bell or Poggi ready to commit and instead chose to wait on EV or Conner, that was just a reflection of how they viewed them as prospects.

Basically, you don't turn down Bell or Poggi for the slim chance at EV, unless of course EV just flat out lied to them, or they were never high on either of those in the first place. This is assuming a lot of course...

JMHO, but I think that Robinson made the decision to roll the dice with Reed/EV easier. With Robinson in hand, you let Reed go and hope to land the big fish EV.

Not sure what happened with Conner, but I doubt that it was related. You still have at least one scholly to give, and Jones would probably have accepted a gray shirt. Conner was probably just a miss - a player that decided to go elsewhere. But with Conner and EV both still in the running, you might have lost Poggi by holding both of your last 2 schollies on the sideline.

I think that Poggi and Reed were forced by Hoke and Muschamp to decide or lose their offers. With nothing solid from their preferred school (Alabama), they took the bird in the hand, so to speak. Well played by Hoke and Muschamp. Tip of the cap.

I bet the coaches knew early, but couldnt comment on it before it was official.

My guess, and its just a guess, is that the coaches had a very good idea that EV was leaning elsewhere (If they didnt know outright), and were just not as high on Reed and Poggi. I dont see the coaches letting them get away if they were high on them, they were more likely to let EV know it was time to at least let them know his intent prior to his 7PM news conference.

Not sure that I completely agree with this - at least with respect Poggi. They invited him up for a visit at the last minute knowing that he might lose his Michigan offer if he accepted. Unless he did something while on campus to change their minds, I have to believe that they wanted Poggi and he was ready to commit, but that he was their fall back guy. When that became clear to Poggi, he was forced to decide.

We will probably never know for sure.

I think we're in good hands with Mr. Robinson.

D'Shawn Robinson will be the best DT since Dareus. He's projected as both a DT and OT, but unlike some "tweeners" with this designation, his speed is not the issue. He is just that good athletic. Saban wants to start him at DE (sound familiar - Dareus and Jesse Williams). I think he wants to develop his rushing skills first before plugging him into the middle.

I dont think anyone coulsd be dissappointed in getting Mr. Robinson...he seems like apretty level headed young man too...
But, is is just me or does he look and talk like a 30 year old man? If he develops his skills, he'll be hard to handle for sure.

And best wished for both Mr. Poggi and Mr. Vanderdoes as well....they should be great ones to watch the next few years as well.

According to SB Nation.. Vanderdoes may not be heading to ND..

Vanderdoes' promising career with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish could be over before it started. Multiple sources indicate that the consensus five-star recruit isn't headed to Notre Dame and will be looking for a new school. Lou Somogyi of 247Sports reports that the issue is academic, and Steve Montoya of MaxPreps indicates that Vanderdoes has to clear a high school course to get into Notre Dame.

No definitive information yet, but my own intuition is that he's getting cold feet about leaving the West coast.

Assuming he does renege on Notre Dame, I imagine we would still be interested, provided we have the space. Having said that, though, I figure the odds are better that he stays closer to home, and getting a release from ND will not be easy.

Once they have signed with a school..They would have to sit out a year should they leave or transfer from that school..Even if the school they signed with grants them a release..Right???

Unless the NCAA gives them a hardship waiver, i believe thats the case.

Also, if he is getting cold feet about leaving the west coast, we're farther away than Notre Dame. We may be interested, but I believe that UCLA might be his most likely destination.

I doubt he comes here (no personal knowledge, just an educated guess). It sounds like he's interested in being closer to family (can't blame him for that) so that knocks us out. UCLA looks to be a likely spot should ND release him.

I think if he is released from the LOI, he doesn't have to sit out a year at the new school (it's like he signed with them from the get-go). That is a school's decision; without the release, then he would have to sit out a year. I think the hardship waiver is only for kids to play immediately if they (1) transfer or (2) are not released from the LOI by the school.
