Listen to Saban talk, though. He has the highest standard for the team and himself. He expects more than anyone on this board.

Knowing Saban expects 100% on every play, practice, video session and weight lifting, I don't really want to hear about Alabama fans' high expectations.

But this isn't Saban talking, it is his wife.

Somebody wake me up when it's game time. I'll get nervous then. But this? I'm not real worried about it. Odds are she meant what she said but not to the degree people are taking it. I very seriously doubt the Sabans are on the verge of making a decision to stay or leave. I think they are here to stay and we shouldn't get caught up and hang on every word they say. Some fans are unappreciative. She's probably right. But it doesn't mean she meant the entire fanbase.

Put it in terms that relate to us.

Let's say you overachieve at your job consistently. Then your boss expects you to perform like that every single day, when there are other employees doing mediocre work. You wish that your boss would be more appreciative of all that you do..instead of just always expecting it.

She is merely stating of how it can be stressful to continue to live up to those high expectations. So she says they are just going to have to live with it...because they are staying.

I agree 100%. Thank you

It's important to remember that CNS himself said a few weeks ago that, after so much winning, there was more of a feeling of relief after a big win than the big charge when we were on the way up. (My paraphrase) It's true. I tend to think that's what Terry was trying to say, she just said it poorly (if indeed, that's exactly what she said)...

Exactly! The empty seat problem could be solved instantly. The only problem is it would interfere with our present program of maximizing ticket revenue at the expense of everything else...

She nor Nick wnt to get into an economics discussion with me or a lot of other wait listers ;) It just strikes a raw nerve when this topic is broached and he tends to broach it a lot.

BTW- Have they taken into account that a large bloc of the new student population comes from waaaaaay out of state. Many likely have no affinity to Bama FB, College FB, or FB in general.

Off soap box :)

Maybe she loves us or maybe she is truly offended by a perceived lack of appreciation and would move if they were younger, who knows. Either way, the timing could not be worse and I am really surprised that she doesn't have thicker skin than this. EVERY ultra successful program deals with fan apathy on some level eventually and surely she can understand the self-feeding monster than CNS has created. I love the Sabans, don't get me wrong, but if a few apathetic students caused any serious contemplation of moving on, color me surprised and really disappointed.

Do we know for sure when this interview took place? Maybe that is the intent of the article to cause the biggest stir before such a big game. Would this have waited to come out say next week if Auburn had 6 losses or a week before the BCS championship game if we were to get there? Don't know.

Coach Saban was upset about the students leaving weeks ago and expressed this then. Maybe this was a follow up to what happened weeks ago with this interview with Miss Terry. It was good for me to read that they are going no where no matter what and they would just have to adjust to the circumstances. Thats all that matters to me and if this gives the Bama fan base a little shake up for the better then more power to her!

What are you gonna do run them off if they say something that doesn't paint us as the greatest fan base known to mankind? ;)

Knowing how dishonorable almost all journalism is nowadays, I'm going to wait until I hear "the rest of the story" before I make a snap judgement about Terry Saban. How many times have we seen journalists take people out of context, or emphasize the wrong things in an interview in order to create controversy? Until it is proven to me otherwise, I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt. Something about the timing of this smells. Journalism is barely honorable anymore. It's all about sensationalism and "gotcha" moments. I know it has always been that way to a degree, but the current crop of journalists leave much to be desired. I think she deserves the benefit of the doubt. I would almost guarantee that there's another story here.

It's really more than half now. And you're right. Most of them become fans, but not all...

Coach uses the press to get a point across to his players and the fans as well. Maybe Miss Terry was trying to do the same thing in this interview, but just didn't do a very good job. I can't think of ANY reason why she would intentionally upset the fanbase.

There's a lot of ways I can look at this. So I'll just look at it my usual way.

1) Quite frankly, I don't trust the media at all. The media's bread and butter is getting a reaction and then smiling as reactions go haywire. That's why they spin stories a certain way - and you can look at NS board here and see some long ones that the media stirred up. So that's the first problem.

2) Try and put yourself in Terry Saban's shoes for a minute. I think you might look at it differently.

She signed on 40 years ago with a guy who was gonna be a football coach - back when coaches didn't make a whole lot of money. I seriously doubt she ever dreamed she'd be married to a multi-millionaire or a living legend. And you must understand that that becomes it's own prison for the entire family, not just the coach. The woman - I'm sure - cannot go out doing basic things like shopping or even to a movie without hundreds of people recognizing her (certainly dozens on a slow night in T-Town). Wouldn't you get tired of the stares? Wouldn't you feel somewhat oppressed by stares the week after a loss - like you're getting blamed for it?

Maybe she said it because of our fan base's tendency to have vocal nitwits without brains (Updyke is a great example) who start screaming about firing coaches the moment we lose. TF is a well-moderated site but think about a few things here:

a) many fans gave up on us in the LSU game in 2012, right here on TF, you can go read some of the moronic spew
b) the day we lost to aTm some nitwit started a "Fire Doug Nussmeier" thread, like a complete idiot (it was squelched)

How in the world would you feel if you did a monumentally outstanding job but had just one day when it all didn't go well (2011 LSU and 2012 aTm) and that one day was all anyone talked about for the year?

Anyone want to bet the woman hears MORE about what we did wrong in 2012 against aTm than what we did right, which was every other game? If you heard every day of the year about the one loss EVEN THOUGH WE STILL WON IT ALL - I think you'd feel unappreciated, too.

Remember her comment last year about how it's "a relief" when you win, not enjoyed? Do you all realize that if we lose ANY of the next three games this year - it is all that woman is going to hear about online, on TV, in her everyday life - even though we won 3 in 4 years?

How would YOU feel if you were in those shoes?

3) Maybe she just mis-spoke

There was little in there about what she actually said. Most of it was a build-up as to why Saban "might" leave that was undercut by the initial "we're not leaving."

For the time being - and pending further developments - I'm simply going to let it go, and I'd advise my brothers in Tide to do the same thing. Anyone wanna bet that if we lose the IB THIS is what everyone wants to blame?

#1 if not for Ms Terry we do not have CNS
#2 the week of the IB (probably the most important one ever) this just comes out? Common Man
#3 CNS refused her an interview hummmmm
#4 what the heck do the Sabans have to say to convince some of you they like it here? Shameful
#5 she does very few interviews I think you can see why also she can say any dang thing she wants as far as I'm concerned, but I don't think she said this like some are taking it.

#6 Lighten up Francis We beat the Barn by 30

To add a little possible context to this thing - this interview was supposedly done last week. This was coming off of a Saturday where a lot of fans were jumping off the ledge about only beating MSU 20-7. There's a time when we would have been thrilled to have a 35-7 win over VT, or a 25-0 win over Ole Miss, or even a 20-7 win over MSU. In fact, 95% of the teams in CFB would be pretty happy with that. Yet, we are so used to domination that these wins don't meet our standard. We are a product of the "process", and success at a high level always causes this.

After reading it again, this coupled with attendance numbers, may be what she was referring to. It seems she is coming to terms with it and made the mistake of saying it to a writer that was looking for a negative slant anyway.

The timing of it is bad, but it is what it is at this point. At the end of the day "we're not going anywhere" is good news, so I'm going to move on and enjoy the Molly Whoppin' (that's how I've always said it!) that we're going to put on AU this Saturday.
