Coach is about to really find out what it is to coach Alabama. It's about to get very interesting.

That sounds foreboding. A brick in his window?

Well I sure as heck hope Alabama fans aren't stupid enough to raise so much sand they run Saban off. Put things into perspective. We've won three out of the last four national championships. A lot of people need to Let that sink in before before reminding Coach Saban about the IB rivalry.

I think that one lesson from today is that the HUNH is a very difficult offense for a complex defensive scheme to defend. The pace is simply too quick for the defense to pull off the substitutions and realignments that are necessary. This gets the defense flustered and back on their heels.
CKS and CNS are going to have to watch a lot of film and develop an effective answer to the HUNH. Unless they do, more SEC teams are going to start running it and this is going to cause problems down the road.

we would have had a pretty good answer tonight with solid tackling![]()
I think Jess has a serious point, though, and if if Gus manages to turn Auburn into something long term, Bama fans aren't going to be happy going 10-2 every year if we lose to Auburn every other year.
Pretty much my point exactly. The sequence of importance for an Alabama coach is: Beat Auburn, win SEC West, win SEC, win National Championship. Because everything rolls downhill from the first thing on that list. And that's just the dry stuff. The whole thing about being consistently dominant in-state is huge in this state -- that's what the last few graphs of the column were about.
Alabama fans, I guess to try to differentiate themselves above the Auburn fans, will not often admit to this. "We play for championships, they play for the Iron Bowl." At least Auburn admits it. Because with the way the current BCS is structured, you almost can't do the first without doing the second. Funny, that the new playoff system could have helped Alabama out (thereby proving the point that playoffs water down the importance of regular-season games, but that's another discussion).
The fact of the matter is that 4-3 against Auburn isn't good enough. Should there be consequences for that? I don't think you could -- or should -- do anything contractual about it, because of the other successes. But to me, LSU has always been Nick Saban's "Auburn." I think you have to grow up here -- not just live here for a few years -- to understand the depth of this rivalry. Because unless you've been a kid in this state during the week of this game, you just don't know.
The only thing you can do is get Saban to agree to let someone teach him for a moment, about the emotional meaning of this game and how important it is -- more so than I think he understands it. He made a comment after the AU game last year, about stopping at 49 points, paraphrased, "Those other guys have families and if you want me to embarrass them, you hired the wrong coach." If this was a game of Jeopardy!, that would be the answer behind the $1000 panel to the category, "Things Alabama fans would never say even with a gun pointed at their skull".
He's going to catch some heat for this game, and he should. It was probably the worst-coached game he's had at Alabama since Louisiana-Monroe in 2007. Doesn't mean people should be ready to run him out of town, but the losses to Auburn must stop.
Well whoever decides to give him heat about this loss better know when to stop. Because going over board could leave us in a coaching search. Any suggestions on anyone out there as good as who we have now?

Sounds like some folks are off the Saban bandwagon and want a new coach.

Please point out exactly who you're talking about.
Others have been more vocal , but you seem awfully down on Saban tonight. Please point out exactly who you're talking about.
