LOL, I saw that but thought I would be slammed for posting it!
I see that tensions are somewhat lifted, so I thought that the humor might be appreciated now.

Agree to disagree.
Especially with what Bama has offered. If he is considering it after what they said this year, yes THEY, then they are basically saying we don't want to stay at Bama and there is nothing you can offer to change our minds because you have already given us EVERYTHING we've asked for as soon as we've asked for it. Bama fans are the ones starting to feel unappreciated.

Danny Sheridan on Finebaum right now. He said that from what he's been told, this is being driven by Sexton - that Alabama had made it clear to Sexton that they wanted to keep Saban and pay him accordingly and that Sexton is waiting till Mack Brown officially steps down and Texas makes an offer for Alabama to counter. He thinks it very unlikely that Saban goes to Texas.

I know - Bag Man and all.... but TIFWIW.

Colin Cowherd tweeted:

"Was told by a great source (hopefully most are) Saban is still deciding at this hour. Weighing both sides carefully."
What is there to weigh? Gold?

Honestly, unless I'm missing something huge behind the scenes, Saban has virtually no reason to leave, and only my being completely wrong all along about him and what motivates him, or Alabama just being complete idiots seems to leave much to weigh.

Let's weigh this. Texas can offer him more money, but in the long run that's marginal at best. Damage to his "brand" and the fact that even Texas is likely to view him as a mercenary which means he's only getting money as long as he's winning for them. If he retired at Alabama, he retires knowing they will take care of him for life. At Texas he gets more "clutter", the network, more politics, more intrusive boosters. He harms what he's done at Alabama, he harms his legacy...

There are only two options I see as being somewhat viable (assuming that tweet is correct, and based on other tidbits that sounds plausible). One is that Saban is just trying to iron out some issues with Alabama, be it contractual, or real problems he's encountered behind the scenes that he's unhappy with. The other is that he's considering NFL teams, which makes much more sense. They could pay him Texas money, but without all of the chaos that a move to Texas would entail. By itself, the whole Texas stuff doesn't make logical sense.

I still think he stays, but I'm waiting for that piece of information that allows all this stuff to actually make sense. Remember though, in terms of public knowledge, nothing Nick Saban has said or done has given us just cause to criticize him. May be when it's all said and done we'll have more than enough justification, but that hasn't happened yet.

I can't blame him for weighing it out if this is true.
I can...because of what he and his wife have said to the contrary. does anyone's word matter at all anymore?

This is my personal opinion as well. Sexton is really not looking out for the betterment of the Saban's but for himself and in doing so is starting fire storms that could have been avoided and more than likely accomplish the same goal. I'd like to get a running start and give Ole Jimmy boy a full throttle kick in the junk.

I think, when looking at it without bias, anyone would look at both and I wouldn't realistically expect him not to at least look at it if only for leverage purposes. Who knows if Texas has even offered anything yet? Their board isn't even all on the same page about Mack Brown, much less an offer to Saban.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

I think some people have an aversion to Saban trying to get every cent out of Alabama he can. I don't. The only place he is going is to the bank.
if we pay him $10 million a year I will never donate money to the university again...never. that's just an absurd amount of money to pay a college coach. at this rate we'll be paying a coach $30 million a year ten years from now.

I understand how people make an accounting analysis and say he's worth the money, but the university is supposed to be primarily about education and public service, not money making.

Nope, not at all. All of that can be settled out of the lights. I can see no reason to let this fester like an open wound. It is totally unnecessary if you're intending to stay all along.

@rivalsmike

According to mentor of one high level recruit, Saban told said recruit he wasn't going anywhere and was looking for bigger deal from #Bama

at this point, I honestly think we should withdraw the extension offer and tell him to man up and honor the agreement he just signed last year or hit the road.

sorry mods if this is too much for this thread, delete it if you must and PM me to lay off until all this is over.

I see this a lot and do not see the logic in the statement. We are probably talking anywhere from $6.5M to $8.5M a year. In the grand scheme of things it is not that much money or difference. There is a "cap" on what Texas as Public Institution can do, and Alabama can easily match or exceed those numbers. If it is unreported earnings, such as boosters, etc. maybe, but as Earl has pointed out UA has already risen to the ocassion with that in the past. I don't see how in the world this comes down to money.

No way Saban said that.... He may be thinking that but he surely would not tell a recruit that...
