Saban signs multi-year extension w/Bama, shorthorns on suicide watch...

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Some Texas fans are saying CNS re-signed with Bama only after UT decided to keep Mack. We'll be back here next year.

It will be just a matter of days before we see the house Terry bought in Austin listed for sale.

Nope..After he signs this extension..I would think it will pretty much keep Coach Saban at Bama & all but ensures he retires at Bama..The buyout should Texas come calling next year would astronomical I would think..

I don't think CNS's contract at Bama has ever contained a buyout if he leaves for another job. And, I doubt it ever will.

Some of the horn fans on saggycow is saying since there is no buyout that it is still going to happen once CMB is finally convinced to leave. LOL

"The way this sort of got spun, it was a little bit more like, 'OK, he got a new contract at Alabama, so he's going to stay at Alabama instead of going to Texas,'" Saban told ESPN.com on Saturday. "I never considered going to Texas. That wasn't even a conversation.

"I knew that if Mack stepped down, there would probably be an opportunity, but it wasn't something I was interested in doing, not at this stage in my career."

"I don't want to go someplace else," Saban said. "I don't know how many times I can say that.

"Maybe this will be what the Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay thing was to the NFL the last couple of years. That kind of ended the pro speculation. Maybe this will end the college speculation. This is where I'm going to finish my coaching career."

As the matter ran on, I also became convinced that he would stay. If he were going to leave, at some point, his and her statements would have stopped and "no comment" would have taken over. I do have good reason to believe that he mulled it over, at least briefly. Who wouldn't? A friend of mine told me something this AM which, had I known it earlier, would have silenced even the initial doubts I had...

You made some posts in which you expressed concern based on some information you said you had. This, in turn, caused me to be concerned unnecessarily.

I guess I fell into the trap of reading too much into what I see on message boards, even this one.

I might give myself a time out.

At work working on a grant proposal so I have missed one important point, I think. Is it certain that UT will have CMB as its head coach next year or is there still a chance he retires or is jettisoned? Sorry for the digression.

They still have to play Oregon. Bevo's defense...............Oregon's offense.............I see another Shaggy Bevo 3 Mile Island meltdown looming on the horizon.

Get your popcorn ready.

Shorthorns, eh? I prefer t.u. and sips myself. All three are acceptable though and something we are used to coming from OU and A&M. What do the barners call you guys?

Saban sticking around is pretty much what I expected. No one is really upset about that. Disappointed? Yes. But folks aren't melting down over Saban staying at Alabama. Most everyone was hoping and giving it a small chance but nothing serious outside of a very vocal few. Some still are insisting he's coming to Texas right now.

What are we melting down over?

1. We are angry and stunned that it seems Mack is sticking around.
2. We are angry our administration is running this clown show.
3. We are angry because our normal Texas news sites seem to have been completely lied to or just dropped the ball. All of them.

It all makes no sense. Of the four main Texas sites, there are four main insiders that get news. They are all almost always spot on and when they are wrong, it's in the small details. It seems every single one of them has been 100% wrong in reference to Mack.

That is why we are melting down. Not because Saban is staying at Alabama but because Mack being stubborn will prevent us from getting ANY good coach and we will continue our slide into irrelevance.

It's going to be an early drinking day for me.

Yep. If BYU can manage 550 rushing yards against the UT "defense", I can only imagine what Oregon will do. The real question with the BYU game is, how in the world did they only manage to score 40 points with 550 yards rushing? They did have a couple of turnovers, but still.

What I heard which gave me concern was accurate and reliable. If you listen to the Phil Savage interview carefully, you'll see what I meant. However, as I said above, as it went on, I realized that he had put it behind him. And I posted that. I had come out strongly that he was going to stay. When I received the other information, I got uncomfortable out on the limb, so I had to do what I did. I hate to think of how I would have been crucified, if I had stayed with the position of 100% staying and he had moved in spite of his comments. Therefore, I had to post what I did. Same circumstances arise again, I'll do the same. I had worried what might happen, if CMB stayed another year. There's no doubt that, if he leaves, they'll make another run at Saban. I think now, barring bad developments inside our AD, he is ours until retirement. Let us remember that hindsight is always 20-20...

What exactly is "sips" supposed to mean? I've heard it a time or two but never caught the intended insult.

I was told it's short for 'tea sippers', based on the the idea that the shorthorns consider themselves 'above' others, thus sitting about sipping tea like British royalty.
