November 18 (week 4) CFP poll released

Re: Week 4 CFP poll released

It would be a shame yes but.... until the Dec 7 polls come out and prove me wrong, I am betting on 4 conference winners being "in".
True true... They still have a long way to go. TCU could be conference champ too. They'd leapfrog them? I don't know man. Bama just has to continue to play ball though. No relaxing now.

Ole Miss is top 10 (8). I think MSU beating them should trump an OSU championship win.
I am a Buckeye through and through, and I agree with you. We lost to VT. Beating Wisconsin or Nebraska is not going to make up for that.

I agree with you that it'd be a more impressive win. But, I think the commitee will reward a 1-loss conference champion over MSU when all is said and done.

Really intrigued by this one ... didn't think we would go to number one.But i guess what really matters is the ranking after the SEC championship weekend. Just surprised they are ranked number one though. Happy that's the case ... but still surprised.

I disagree. If the top four and OSU win out, OSU will get the fourth spot. If there's a clear winner (based on record) in the Big 12/10, I think they'd jump MSU, too. I think the commitee will fall back on conference championships in the end.
.
Maybe, if Wisconson (Neb?) can move up significantly by then.

LOL, the target is always on Alabama's back and will remain there at least as long as Saban is here.
I agree - consider the MSU game. MSU was ranked #1 and Alabama #5, but everyone EXPECTED Alabama to win that game. It is the expectations that cause teams to crumble, but Alabama has faced that in every game for 6 seasons. Crazy, but Alabama was under more pressure to win that game than MSU, but it was MSU that crumbled.

Re: Week 4 CFP poll released

What this means - If Alabama and MSU both win out, there will be 2 SEC teams in the playoff. MSU has to beat Ole Miss on the road to do that, and they won't be hurt by playing Vandy since they are an SEC school. That would trump anything that any of the teams sitting just outside of the "final 4" are capable of doing in the last few games of the season.

Hate it that my Buckeyes are on the outside looking in, but there is still hope. I think that we might sneak into the playoff if we win out and MSU loses to Ole Miss. We might still need help from KSU at that point, but hope lives.
IMO if both tOSU and MSU win out there's no way the committee will put in an 11-1 non champ and even non division winner MSU over a 12-1 Big-10 champ. Remember Okie St. and Bama ? That's what led to this whole thing...and they're not gonna let that happen again.

When it's all said and done, it'll be either Bama or MSU or neither...but it won't be both.

I'd be curious to see if FSU wins out, they'd be ahead of us in the BCS, assuming we win out too. Call me crazy, but an undefeated team in a major conference should be higher than a one loss team. I know we've played tougher opponents than FSU and they've basically played a lot of mediocre teams, but there's something to be said for winning them all.

I continue to be impressed by the fairness of the committee. I would have been fine with being #1 or #2 but FSU should be behind both Oregon and Bama. That's the right call and honestly MSU could be #3 and FSU #4.

I really want to hear the conspiracy theorists this week. They jump us to #1 AND keep MSU in at #4.

They were under NO obligation to not drop them to #5 or #6 and put OSU and or TCU/Baylor ahead of them now.

Give me a break with the 'they are just setting MSU up to be jumped' ridiculous paranoia.

As much as I hate it, I kind of agree with you. The great thing is that as long as a team is in the top four, it really doesn't matter where they're ranked in that group.

Wow. I am surprised we jumped that high. Good for them in making the right decision. Now let's stay there till the end.

. We have yet to see the weight of a conference championship.
I think that will be weighed heavily. Being that OSU will win it on the field will enable them to jump the big 12, most everything else being equal. If the committee takes injuries into account, and they admittedly did for Oregon, they should for OSU losing their starting QB right before the season . Losing a QB is more detrimental than losing a left tackle. Didn't say this is my reasoning, projecting the committee.
