I don't know that this one has been on here any time in recent years; I saw it elsewhere and thought "that might be interesting." Everyone has a 'he's nice, he's a jerk' story about all kinds of folks so here goes mine.

Chuck Yeager - met him multiple times. A pompous jerk, old school guy - but maybe that personality is what gave him the drive to break the speed of sound. Pilots unanimously say the same thing (at least the MANY I've heard talk about him)

Lesley Stahl - nice enough, kinda rigid and very precise in minutes used (again - has to be with her job)

Tommy "Wildfire" Rich - this is stretching the definition perhaps but this guy was huge in early 1980s wrestling (the pro exhibition stuff). Met him at a KMart autograph signing - he was a guy who didn't want to be there (or maybe it's because I'm a guy?); his cousin, Johnny, was incredibly nice (and he had a cast on his leg at the time).

Queen Elizabeth II - well, 'met' is a strong word, but she did say 'hello' to us when he plane landed at our base in the UK; I was such a stupid kid, I was expecting someone to come off the plane with jewels and a robe on. Didn't even know it was her until later. I was within a few feet of her.

Mark Cuban - met him at Cracker Barrel, he was at the booth right next to us (a Sunday in 2009). Very polite, but I didn't bother him. He has those killer model eyes, the good-looking stud type. His wife with him seemed a bit preoccupied; she was dressed casual and Cuban was wearing a sweatshirt (Mavs, of course) and sweatpants.

I've met a few 'celebrities' in the smaller pool of Christian celebrities - the nicest of whom was Chuck Swindoll, who will always stop and say a few words with me despite not having any idea who I am. (I've met him both at his church and on the seminary campus as well as out in public).

I've never met them, but it seems unanimous from what I've read that both Chevy Chase and George Peppard were/are colossal jerks.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
Rafael Palmeiro- Met him at a Braves game when he was with the Cubs. Complete and utter jerk.

Will Clark- Met him at a baseball camp. Was nice to me but came across as about the same as Palmeiro.

Danny White- Met him at a Howard Johnson's when I was a kid. Was very nice and cordial.

I've met my fair share. I'll refrain from trying to gauge them all. But I will give my best and worst first impressions.

Worst: Maya Angelou. Didn't actually MEET her per se. Just sat across from her on a flight. She was a first class pain the whole time. Constantly raised voice, demanding of the flight crew, and name dropped the whole way. I have never seen anything nearly that bad from someone with that level of celebrity. Since then I have heard from many that my impression is completely wrong, but she certainly had no fans that day.

Best: John Stallworth. Seems to be a genuine good guy right off the bat. Have had the opportunity to meet him a few times in business settings. HUGE hands BTW. Mine are about 9.5 inches and his just engulfed it.

Quite a few - good friends with a couple, in fact. IME, their attitude is almost universally (inversely, based on what most would assume) proportional to how successful they are - the more successful, the nicer, more down to earth they are.

Not naming names, not really my style.

It probably depends a lot on where you meet them. If you meet them at a book signing, they're likely on their best behavior and will indulge you. If you cross paths with one in a restaurant or a place they consider private they may not be so polite. It probably comes with the territory of them seeking privacy.

I met P.J. O'Rourke, one of my favorite writers years ago at a book signing and he was great. But he was being paid handsomely for his time, I'm sure.

EJ Junior -- when I lived in South Florida -- super nice -- he actually left and came back to bring me an autographed photo for my stash....we visited for about an hour.
Alabama (the band) - 6am Birmingham Airport -- very nice, super tired though....(way back in 1995)
Steve McNair - on a flight -- talked for about 10 minutes - very nice
Hubie Brown - on a flight -- 10 seconds on a plane - he was tired -- not nice, not mean -- looks a lot older in person....
John Waite - "Missing You" - after concert in Baton Rouge about 10 years ago -- very nice guy....talked to us for about 10 minutes

Spoke to Major Ogilvie on the phone....business call....very nice man

Saw Franco Harris - Applebee's in Mobile, AL in the 90s.....during Senior Bowl week -- had two blondes (one on each side of him in the booth) -- didn't say "hi"....

Saw Michael Haynes in an airport -- big dude...BIG DUDE
Saw Garth Brooks in a restaurant in Tulsa
Saw Rachel Hunter at a Jewelry Store in South Florida

The wife got to meet John Malkovich at a Coffee House in New Orleans -- he was very nice, gave her directions, and chatted with her for about 10 minutes....

Not a huge celeb -- but also spend a 3 hour flight next to Gerald Boudreaux (head of SEC Officials for several years) -- one of my favorite flights ever. Got to talk about his years being a ref -- and who he like and who he hated. Let's say he's NOT a huge fan of at least two former UK Coaches.....

Picking my wife up at DFW airport in mid 90's, she was returning from her folks in Mobile, damn if Gene Stallings doesn't come off plane right ahead of her.
I introduced myself to him, and he said "I sat next to a nice lady who said she was married to the biggest Alabama fan". My wife had sat next to him on flight and she's an Aubie.
Bob Lily did business with us in Georgetown,Texas 10-15 years ago. He lived in a over 55 Del Webb golf community just west of our business.
Both of these were fine down to earth guys and both were really huge men.
Ran into Don Knots, (Barney Phyffe) in lobby of Sheraton in Mobile years ago, really nice guy.
AJ Foyt in Indianapolis Airport, really nice guy could have talked all afternoon if plane wasn't boarding.

No swoon factor with any of them. Just down to earth guys.

Met the "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase back in 2002 when working in Jackson, MS. Absolutely nothing like his wrestling persona. Very nice but quiet guy.

George "Goober" Lindsey, 1966 or 1967...one of my high school teachers went to school with him. He and his family were going home for a vacation from CA, and stopped in at our teacher's request...he did that Gomer/Goober "hey everybody!" thing when he stuck his head in the classroom door. Really very nice.

aside from a couple of politicos, i have only met musicians that while well known within their genres, would hardly be considered celebrities.

i did get to meet gene stallings once at a friend's wedding a long time ago.
