I'll probably keep watching ESPN since they have the games everybody wants to see (including many Bama games), but a few years ago they decided to move away from sports highlights alone and start giving commentary and opinions about things outside of sports.

And some of the stuff they've done with "Outside of the Lines" is probably good, but controversial opinions have carried over into almost every aspect of their broadcasts. The Mixon thing was a perfect example. They should have decided, IMO, to just cover the game and talk about his participation in the game and that alone. But it seems they are incapable of just doing that.

Put me in the group that never liked Brent. He came across as a pompous jerk to me on the NFL studio show.

He certainly was testy when he attempted to defend his earlier comments about Mixon. The content was not bad, but his presentation was terrible. I thought, as soon as he said it, he was digging himself a hole. It will be interesting to see what ESPN will do with him. It would not surprise me if this turns out to be his last broadcast.

Long past time...

He always grated...

Admittedly, I was spoiled by having had been weaned on Keith Jackson's play-by-play, but that still doesn't alter the fact that the guy has always gotten under my skin...
Keith Jackson... ah.. the memories of my youth. Jackson came to the both and was interviewed during the Rose Bowl. 81 years old and looked every bit of it. That one booming and vibrant voice was slow and weak. Made me realize how much time has gone by since he called a game. He was a good 'un.

I heard his comments during the game. Not a thing wrong with what he said in my opinion. The push for criminal justice reform needs to include a little outrage reform as well.

Sadly, I think Musburger stepped in it Monday night then proceeded to double down by jumping up and down in it for good measure. It is unfortunate because he still can call a good game at his age but his filter isn't well-suited for today's world.

I'm just gonna say... did anybody watch the footage? It was BRUTAL! She shoved him a little, he clearly had no reason tofeel threatened, but then just demolished her - it was the table that probably broke her jaw, but it was awful. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but Brent was asking for trouble by going there. He deserves all of the bad press he's getting - but that's my opinion, and I suppose I'm asking for trouble for saying so. Fair is fair.

I remember brent and sunday morning in the late 70's when they would grade ncaa teams. They always put Bama way down on the top 10 list and he would tell the reason why. Haven't really like him sent but give him a pass because I thought of him as a tool. He gave the apology for jimmy the greek guy after his spill about black athletes.

So should Stoops, the entire Oklahoma coaching staff, the AD, the university president, and the Board of Trustees be fired?
Afterall, they're the ones who gave Mixon a second chance. Had they not, Brent would have had no reason to comment at all.
The people closely familiar with the situation and the facts made a decision to give the kid a second chance. Brent didn't. He had nothing to do with it. All he did was say that he was glad the young man would have a second chance because he believed in second chances.
Good grief.

I agree, at least he has been relegated you the low SEC games, I bet he winds up at Fox before all is said and done.

Brent Musburger has been the most Pro-Bama announcer I've ever experienced.

I think anyone vaguely with a pulse on the social consciousness of today would know that broaching that subject w/r/t Mixon was going to hurt him. Is he wrong necessarily? I don't think so, but freedom of speech isn't freedom from consequences of your words. The intersection of violence against women and sports is a hot button issue right now and he didn't use his wits while navigating across it. Heck, it was kind of insulting to me that he compared Sarkisian's second chance after battling with alcohol abuse to Mixon's assault of person.
