Game Thread: Official Post Game Thread - Bama vs. Clemson, Round Two...

Would love to think we're better than Pitt and NC St. guess not. We have got to get better QB play. I don't give a crap what anyone says. Tua will start next year.

No offense, but what makes you think this? I understand being frustrated, but Tua is going to experience the same struggles Jalen did. That's what true freshmen QBs do.

Jalen regressed as the defenses started getting tougher late in the season. He just never learned to throw the ball. And he has no shot of completing a pass on an unplanned roll out. 15 games and this is what he has. I seriously doubt that he will get better with more time, but maybe having Tua pushing for the starting job will help with that.

This is going to sound like I am blaming Jalen for the loss, but I am not. The coaches own player development. They have to put him in a position to succeed. They did not. And he just wasn't good enough to over come both his personal weaknesses and the play calling that exacerbated it.

What could have been regarded as the best defense ever will now be set aside as not good enough to finish. After all, in spite of your offensive struggles, how many 3 and out possessions did it force in this game? If they had to defend too many plays then it is at least partially their fault. Scoring drives aside, many of the drives that ended in punts could have ended sooner. They only gave up 7 points in the first half, but they gave up over 200 yards and allowed Clemson to control the clock. This before they were exhausted.

This was a team loss. Clemson was just better on this day.

I agree 100% with ya BIGTide..Hats off to Clemson cause they were the better team tonight & I thought had the better game plans between the two teams..They executed that game plan better than we did ours & just had that "Want" for a win that simply wasn't going to be denied to them in this NC Game..

Just woken up to the disappointment of the score.

Disappointed not for myself but for the young men who'd given us so much effort and enjoyment this year.

Even CNS's Alabama can't win every game every year but by god they gave it one heck of a try.

Thank you, unlucky boys, next year.

I have not seen the game and won't for at least 12hrs.

If I remember correctly Selma's predicted score was 31-17 good guys.

We lost scoring 31, Jalen and/or the offence didn't let us down.

No one let us down, it just wasn't to be this time.

It sure looked all year long that these two teams were very much different than the two that played in last years championship game, Bama being better and Clemson not. As it turned out they were almost identical teams from last season at the end, the only difference from this year from last being an onside kick and a kickoff return for a touch down. We needed them last year and we needed them this year but didn't get them.

My hats off to both teams and coaches for two great championship games in a row! Now goodbye Deshaun Watson!!

Yes we scored 31 - but the ultimately we could not hold the ball when we needed to put the game away. We were 2/15 on 3rd down & lost the TOP by almost 10 minutes. Clemson ran probably close to 100 plays. If we manage just 1 more 1st down in the second half we win that game. So in the end I put this more at the feee of the offense than the defense. No defense should be asked to defend that many plays.

I'm still steamed about the lack of consistency from the officials. You simply can't let their receivers manhandle our DBs the entire game and then penalize us for making plays on the ball.

The DPI call again Averette cost us the game. Yes it was interference but they said the foul occurred in the end zone but it was actually around the 2-3 yard line. That gave Clemson an extra 3 yards and allowed them to run yet another illegal pick play. I'm absolutely disgusted...

I will say that the Clemson coaches did a great job of scouting Big12 officials.

Yet B1G posted numbers which indicated that we had issues stopping the Clemson O all night including prior to the number of plays becoming excessive?

And the Ds inability to force 3 n outs has to be as much of a contributing factor as the Os performance.

I'm frankly uninterested in looking for failings in any part of the team.

If everyman gave their best effort then they cannot be asked for more.

2016 Alabama was a great team that came up just a little short in the end, they wont be the first or last Bama team to do that.

They were giving them favorable spots all night long

yeah but they had nothing to do with our offsides/holding penalties and/or dropped passes that continually stalled drives. one sustained drive in the third or fourth quarter and we are celebrating #5. we had numerous chances to ice the game that we whiffed on.

Anyone else have a hard time getting to sleep? So many thoughts and plays going through my head. I wish I was a coffee drinker this morning. Zzzzzz

Tough loss. Losing sucks but Bama has nothing to hang it's head about. You played a very good team and the game went down to the wire and could have gone either way.

Remember that character is always defined by how you do when things go sideways....not when they go well.

This game will provide motivation for next season and that's a positive.

On to basketball, softball, baseball, and soccer!!!

Bama has a Soccer team?

For those thinking we shouldn't have slowed the game down consider these two numbers and go back and read Jess's write ups about where our defense was thin. Bama's defense played 99 plays. 99!!!

Bama had 85 tackles. Clemson 52. The 3 and outs are one thing. When they take 13 seconds off the game clock that's another. I truly don't mind losing when a competitor is just better and wins. That's what makes losing so frustrating these days is because usually Bama has the better team. It's why many are so spoiled. If we could rewind time I'm sure CNS would change things. Can't so fight on!

Agreed, every aspect of the team had really strong and really weak moments in the game. Griffith hit his kicks for points, but his kickoffs were ALL poor. Scott had a few great punts and a few horrible punts. Return coverage was very spotty across the board. Receivers dropped a ton of passes, which had to impact Jalen's confidence. Defense had moments of absolute brilliance, including forcing 2 fumbles, but allowed Clemson to convert 7 of 18 third downs while only forcing two 3 and outs.

In short, for whatever reason, Alabama as a team simply didn't play with enough consistency to beat a good team. But you were still good enough to come within seconds of a victory.

Great team. Bad night.
