Jalen regressed as the defenses started getting tougher late in the season. He just never learned to throw the ball. And he has no shot of completing a pass on an unplanned roll out. 15 games and this is what he has. I seriously doubt that he will get better with more time, but maybe having Tua pushing for the starting job will help with that.
This is going to sound like I am blaming Jalen for the loss, but I am not. The coaches own player development. They have to put him in a position to succeed. They did not. And he just wasn't good enough to over come both his personal weaknesses and the play calling that exacerbated it.
What could have been regarded as the best defense ever will now be set aside as not good enough to finish. After all, in spite of your offensive struggles, how many 3 and out possessions did it force in this game? If they had to defend too many plays then it is at least partially their fault. Scoring drives aside, many of the drives that ended in punts could have ended sooner. They only gave up 7 points in the first half, but they gave up over 200 yards and allowed Clemson to control the clock. This before they were exhausted.
This was a team loss. Clemson was just better on this day.
