Jim McElwain Terminated by Florida

Re: Jim McElwain rumored to be terminated by Florida

Sucks Mac did not get a fair shake at Florida, but giving that the AD is new and probably wants his own coach, he was probably looking for a way to move on from Mac.

I've heard that Mullen and Stricklin don't have an ideal relationship.

Also found that Stricklin's comments about Mac - "it's not about wins and losses" to be very shady.

Florida has issues
Look how Urban left and now look at Mac. Mac seems relieved to be gone. Plus they have their version of Pat Dye lurking the hallways second guessing every decision made on the team.

Re: Florida boosters are discussing buyout for Mac

Perhaps the best example.

I was livid when Stallings got hired.

Ray Perkins had a losing record in the NFL and no college head coaching experience.
Bill Curry had a losing record in college.
Stallings, too, had a losing record in college.
Dubious had one year as a HS head coach and no college head coaching experience.
Franchione wasn't a proven winner at any high level of college ball (his last year at TCU made his ledger
look respectable)
Mike Price had a losing record as a head coach overall until two awesome years totaling 20-5 lifted him to five games above .500.
No need to talk Shula.

I mean, I agree with CA, but we've hired THREE coaches with ZERO college experience, two more with losing records, and the other two not really accomplished.

Of course, the 1990 hire should have been Bobby Bowden, too.
If handled right, we could have had Bobby Bowden instead of Curry.

At this time? Yea, I could see it IF they offered me the moon and a historic buy out. Frankly, Mullen at LSU is the scariest thing I can imagine as a Tide fan.
It would be a good hire for LSU, it wouldn't scare me, cause when Bama Football is clicking on all cylinders & isn't handcuffed by NCAA sanctions..Bama Football will be the absolute best football program in college football no matter who's The Swamp Kittens HC may be..

Re: Florida boosters are discussing buyout for Mac

Lets try this again:

I don't really like this termination. Seems like an athletic director that was looking for a reason to terminate the coach despite the circumstances justifying giving the guy some rope. At the same time, McElwain seemed to be cracking under the pressure. I liked Jim McElwain as an OC here and thought he showed a ton of potential as a head coach while at Colorado State. The way he salvaged two seasons despite no quarterback for most of it has to be given some respect too. I was really surprised he ended up being the Florida head coach. I didn't think he'd come back to the South after taking that job in Ft. Collins. He seemed like the kind of guy who would either try to build up Colorado State like Petersen did with Boise State or move on to the Pac-12 when the right opportunity availed itself.

I get the feeling that CJM wanted to leave just as bad as the admin wanted him gone.

It's a shame it has been handled the way it has.

I totally agree, at his press conference last night he sounded like he was giving reasons UF should fire him. I'm sure coach Mac will be set financially after this and he might want to accept a west coast job and get out of the pressure cooker called the SEC.

Re: Florida boosters are discussing buyout for Mac

Not saying Mac was a world beater, but having Steve Quitter hovering over your shoulder isn't exactly a vote of confidence and may very well have played in to what came down.

Matt Hayes @MattHayesCFB Source told me Spurrier reached out twice to McElwain this fall to offer help, was told no thanks. That alone is fireable offense. #Gators

Jeremy Foley will stick his nose in the rehiring process and then disappear again. When the new hire struggles, he won’t be around to face the music. Foley is a fraud and Mac, well he got what he deserved. I hope both UF and Mac make a bunch of lawyers rich fighting each other. (Sorry Bazza).

I must be out of the loop. Aside from some poor on-field performances, how did Mac "get what he deserved?"
