Big difference is that AJ redshirted, then was a 3yr starter beginning as a RS sophomore. Tua isn't redshirting and is only one year behind a QB who probably isn't leaving early for the draft, either. I think there is a much higher probability of Tua transferring to actually play football for more than one year than there ever was of AJ transferring.I don't believe this for a second. Saban almost had AJ leave Alabama because he wasn't getting playing time. He was playing behind GMac. Seriously, GMac couldn't carry AJ's jock, and AJ had to wait until he graduated to play. We all knew AJ was better - everyone knew AJ was better. Still, he waited. This is what Saban does, and always has done. Jalen is your starter until he leaves, IMO.
You think that Saban kept AJ on the bench because he didn't think he would transfer? I think that Saban kept AJ on the bench because he felt that GMac was the "safer" option at QB. Very true, and he will let Tua walk even though he is the best QB we have recruited in years. Jalen will be our QB for the next two years regardless of performance. I believe that Tua knows he is better than Jalen. He will discover that "the best does not always play" and change his future. No use to worry about it because it is what it is.You think that Saban kept AJ on the bench because he didn't think he would transfer? They had to play one of the true freshman QBs in case Jalen suffered an injury. The choice to play Tua just tells us that he was more prepared than Mac. But I do agree that he has improved as the season has progressed. I just wish that we could have seen him challenged by a tough defense at some point this year.Tua had a chance to grow, play some and watch a lot to learn about the college game this year. Hurts never had that shot because of the other quarterbacks on campus then one quitting the team after a few weeks. You never know about these things with quarterbacks. Coach Saban had let Tua run the offense in games which is different from most years. Tua has definitely opened their eyes in practice or he would have redshirted.
I highly doubt it will happen but the bowl game would be a great time for that to take place if we don’t go to the playoff. Get him in for some full on fire reps. Not saying to start him just play when it matters. Hurts needs the reps too. They had to play one of the true freshman QBs in case Jalen suffered an injury. I do hope Tua stays. I really like him as I do Jalen. If Tua does leave, then I bet his brother won't commit to Bama. I still wish we could get Trevor Lawrence from Cartersville. He is a beast. He is just locked in on Clemson though. Saban went to his school in a helicopter last May to try to switch him, but no luck. He will be the next starter after Kelly Bryant and if Bryant ever gets hurt, he will take over. I have seen him play on TV a few times and have heard lots about him from my friends. We live about 25 minutes from his school. Please keep in mind that I still believe in Jalen. I am not convinced that Tua is better. I am just saying that I doubt that Tua is going to be your starter until Jalen leaves.
AJ was ultimately better, but if you recall the start of 2011, he had growing pains. The major difference between LSU in November and in January was a much improved AJ.I don't believe this for a second. I used to think that. I'm not so sure now...Very true, and he will let Tua walk even though he is the best QB we have recruited in years. I don't think that's fair to say of GMac. He won us a NC. Was AJ's abilities greater? Sure, in hindsight, but here's the big difference. While at Bama they were much the same kind of qb and expected to do the same thing at the position.I don't believe this for a second. Well, we don't know that just yet.Very true, and he will let Tua walk even though he is the best QB we have recruited in years. Jalen will be our QB for the next two years regardless of performance. Just about the bolded statement. That is your opinion. If we are talking about Tua being able to quickly assess, pull the trigger on time and deliver an accurate pass to the right receiver, I believe he's more than ready and the proof is in the pudding, so to speak.I'm going to say this right now on this topic and be done with this until Spring.
People get what they ask for and sometime it's not always what we think it is. I think Tua throws better passes than Hurts, but Hurts has experience and ability to win games right now. If you bench Hurts for Tua in spring or summer, you lose Hurts to Transfer and what happens if Tua struggles? What if he's not what you all thought he was? The thing is, Tua isn't ready this year. We need to focus on Hurts and the team for the potential playoff run.
Why would you say that? You seem to be much more in tune with the ins and outs of the program than almost everyone on here. Could you expand on your belief?I used to think that. I'm not so sure now...
I'm sorry, Tua isn't ready. it showed on the field at times. Tua is very good passer, and He can get the ball in receiver's hand... but the problem is his decision making at times. He has thrown into coverages several times... He hasn't learned to balance the risk and safe throws...I don't think that's fair to say of GMac. He won us a NC. Was AJ's abilities greater. Jalen and Tua are two DIFFERENT types of qb and even to the naked eye, the comparision between their passing abilities is not even close. Granted, their is more to being a QB than passing ability, but when the part of our game that is missing is passing ability it's a little easier to see they are very different and so to compare this situation to the Gmac/AJ timeframe is not nearly the same IMO.

Now, if we are talking about running the hybrid RPO/Pro-set offense Jalen is running, it could be argued that Tua might not be as good at that and Jalen get's the nod because of his incredible athleticism.
But I believe there is an increasing amount of arm chair coaches who are wondering how much of our offensive talent we are not using because Jalen is too much of the focus and not being able to "qb" the team's talent around him.
ONE OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS ABOUT ALL THIS: CNS when talking about the QB battle in times past has very plainly said that part of the "competition" and determining who wins the job is "winning over the team." Without saying anything more, I'll just leave you with that thought.
Tua does have the skill set he is more accustomed to calling plays for. From what I've seen, I think Daboll is more comfortable calling plays when Tua is in the game and we're running a more pro-style passing attack. I don't think he really knows what to do with Jalen.
Jalen throws into double and triple coverage as well. Not often, but he is not immune.I'm sorry, Tua isn't ready. it showed on the field at times.
