Bama vs Clemson part 3

Earle, you know The team will experience some changes at OL for the game against Clemson? I've heard some changes on OL that will be interesting. we'll find out on Friday.

Doesn't mean anything at this point. Good chance we'll roll out with same OL we've had all year long. I would love to see Willis and leatherwood to get in that rotation ... it'll make the run game little more stronger against Clemson.

I'm all for improvement but a quarterback who can't get the ball to the playmakers is a death sentence. Jalen's an amazing athlete but he's not Cam Newton, he can't do it all, he has to get the ball SOMEWHERE besides his hands or this is all academic.

I'm not trying to be mean, but can you get off on QB for a second or two, and look at the bigger picture. Everyone is busy blaming Jalen/ Daboll for this and that, but many missed the point behind it all: It starts and begins with OL. OL did decent job in Auburn game... The Auburn game is on Jalen/Daboll. We get that. If you go back to few games this season... lot of time it was on OL and they didn't execute properly at time.

For against Clemson, If we stick with same OL, we can have same problems against Clemson defense....

If we see changes, I would expect it to be more rotation, rather than starters. However, nothing would surprise me. It's a long time to kickoff...

Yea, I could see Willis or Leatherwood at RT and kicking Womack into guard. That combination would probably be a plus for run blocking and pass blocking..

I agree, and think that Clemson will attack that side of your line for two reasons: Womack grades out as your weakest o-lineman, and Jalen is totally ineffective as a QB when he is flushed to his left. I would love to see someone else at RT for Clemson - I would even consider moving Williams back to RT.

I don't think the fault is necessarily with the oline and pass protection breakdown. Any oline will have breakdowns in a game and no one will fault a qb for that. That doesn't affect the distribution pattern . I was referring to an above post that stated we do not have open receivers other than Ridley. I don't believe that to be the case. I don't think defenses can really break a rhythm if you haven't established one to begin with. Defenses will go after what they see in the film...if you're targeting number 3 the majority of the time...then you're going to have to spread it around to give them something else to think about.I don't have much concern about our defense going into the playoffs, it's our offense sustaining drives and converting on third down. You can have the best defense in college football but if they are on the field too long, they're going to run down.

I agree we have to keep drives alive and let the defense recover some. NO one can play at this level all afternoon with 3 and outs. I also agree it is not all the OL, if they allow some rush, all teams do you got to move and find open guys make fast decisions. I am no coach, but it seems to me we have a lot of little issues not one major one. Got to tighten up all over the place. Nothing major, just get the ball out faster, look at more than Ridley. Use Ridley as decoy, get TE in the game as we did in clemson games in years past. defense I think is solid considering injuries, but they must get off the field. WE need long time eating drives, 3 and outs have gassed this D and they are not wimps.

Yea, Womack doesn't really have the athleticism to be a good tackle. I think guard would be a better fit. Jonah at RT would be interesting. I hadn't considered that but it might be a good idea to keep the right side of the field open for Jalen..

wait - the auburn game is on Daboll/jalen, and the OL did a decent job against AU, who is probably the best DL we have seen so far this year.

However, if we don't change the OL for Clemson we will have the same problems we had against AU that were Jalen/Dabolls fault?

Is that what you're trying to say?

The only regular season starter on your o-line who graded out poorly against Auburn was Womack. He was totally owned in that game. But he dominated lesser opponents earlier in the season.

The problem - when Jalen gets pressure from that side, he is a bad QB. He got pressure from that side all game long.

I'd heard he was pretty banged up. If that's the case the extra time to get healthy should help a lot to get his performance at least closer to what we've seen earlier in the year.

Just a thought.....

I think you see Womack as a backup next year. You can't keep Wills / Lashley / Leatherwood off the field. Don't think there will be a change in the playoffs.

First down success for Clemson (offensively) will be just as or more crucial than it will be for our offense. They can't afford to get behind the chains, neither can we. But Bryant is not even in the same stratosphere as D Watson. So they cannot afford to lose yardage on first down and have to throw their way out of it. They could do that with Watson. Not so with Bryant.

Also, with offenses that like to go fast, 1st down is the most important down.
