Game Thread: OFFICIAL POSTGAME THREAD - Bama v. The Sooners...

One thing not being talked about much. Did Lincoln Riley manage the game poorly? Going for it on 4th but only when outside the red zone? That first onside kick that was too early IMO(it may not have mattered but it still felt like the wrong move)

It would be nit picking because Alabama dominated the entire game. Riley is a jerk, but he simply did not have the horses to win this game.

I mean it might not have mattered but still think he made some bad calls on 4th downs IMO.

On the other hand, he and his staff had some pretty brilliant offensive plays that really helped Murray get going some.

I at first thought the first onside kick early was well. But after thinking it, I realized they would likely need to recover 2 onside kicks for any chance to win. Bama's offense was still clicking, and only about 6 minutes left. It was a desperation call, but not much else they could do.

I'm glad Bama took control early so my heart was never stressed after the opening kickoff.

Murray played well against a very good defense but his numbers were still low. Looking at ESPN box scores, Murray had a quarterback rating of 67.7 while Tagovailoa was rated 96.4.

Bama defenders had two hands on the ball several times; had they intercepted the ball in those situations, the going would have been even rougher for OU (and Murray's numbers even worse). With those misses and some of the other Bama mistakes, this game was about the best OU could ever expect.

Bama missed out on some additional yardage due to short field on a couple of series. The "numbers" don't show how dominating Bama was.

I agree the onside wasnt the worst and see the argument for it. Still think it was the wrong move. But the 4th down calls were much more confusing for me.

Was it just me or was Herbie and Fowler seemingly cheering on OU last night? At one point I asked out loud if they were trying to get a date with Murray.

I normally really like Herbstriet and Fowler, but they absolutely grated on my nerves last night. They seemed to side with OU on every call and you could tell they were really pulling for OU at times. I guess they were just hoping to avoid having to broadcast a blowout...

Edit: I now see that others have made this same comment already, ha.

He didn’t even dress out, which was surprising since he did for the Georgia game.

Saw this earlier as a possible reason for Saban slowing up the offense some. Makes sense, too.

Some football folks seem to be fine with 75 “protecting” Kyler when Q sacked him, but there’s a major difference in protecting the QB and doing what he did.

The officials should be ashamed at how chippy the game got. As someone on Twitter said last night, they are the adults in the room that could put a stop to things.

Hoping part of the mental lapses the team had with the personal fouls were due in part to being fed up with OU’s crap and not a bigger problem.

Ha, that’s my buddy Stephen at the bottom.

Since he went for it on fourth earlier in those drives, one would expect he would have gone for it instead of kicking FGs.

What took the cake for me was Kirk’s insinuation that we were playing dirty after R. Davis took his helmet off in frustration after sacking Murray. This after OU players were throwing punches! He knows better. He’s been around our program enough to know the emotional response by our players last night was an anomaly. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not excusing some of the foolishness we were guilty of. But the unbalanced coverage of it by Chris and Kirk was very disappointing.

There was a play where Buggs ran lateral down the LOS to tackle Murray. One of the best plays of the night and all they talked about was how great Murray is.

The Dline was MVP of that game. They were disruptive on the best OLine in the country. Only two things slowed them down, the refs lack of holding calls and the humidity.

It has gotten to the point where the national broadcasts of our games are basically pandering to the demographic they assume is hoping to see a Bama loss. That's their business decision. They know we're a captured audience so they're charting their broadcast around the opponent's viability as the giant slayer to sell the nonpartisan on the game.

Pretty much...

I don't know why I still let the lack of holding calls bother me so much. You would think I would just be used to it and ignore it. It still bothers me. It bothers me even more when other fanbases find still images and post them all over facebook and sometimes on here to show we "get away with holding all the time".

Think it more about getting away from Sumlin.

That, and his dad helped to wear out their welcome. In any case, he went to play in a conference that looked and played just like the HS competition that he was used to, for 3 straight years. (All of which ended in us winning the State championship.)

I intentionally stayed out of all the "how to defend Murray" talk, as I did not see him play since his game with us, down at aTm. As I suspected, he was what I expected: still runs fast and is elusive, not big enough to take any sustained hits, can throw the ball a mile, but not always able to complete a pass, when it was essential. That type of play can get by in HS, and probably in a conference like Bevo and The Dwarfs. Might even win some awards. Won't win a championship, when it comes to playing complete teams.

And darn sure won't earn him a NFL contract.

Thought he was a good kid, when he won for us. So, it would be unfair to say otherwise, today.

Doesn't mean I won't dog cuss him, when he plays for the A's. Because I will.
