Question: So What Should Bama do different on Defense

Well, a lot of you have some good points. Therefore, I willthrow my 2 cents into this.
CNS runs a very complicated defense. With that said, Since2009 Rolando McClain (Jr.) ILB (Basically QB for the defense)
We have had either a Sr. or Jr. Running the defense that wasnot only talented but experienced/smart enough to run the defense. With theexception of 2018. Last year we had Jr. Mack Wilson and So. Dylan Moses. WhileMack had been in the system for a while, he struggled getting the Defense intothe proper alignment. Dylan took over those duties (I believe three or fourgame into the season) and struggled. However, in his defense he was only a So. Withlimited experience. In addition, we all know we lost him and McMillian beforethe season even began. In addition, we had a few big misses on ILB’s the pastcouple of years on the recruiting trail. Which compounded the injury loses.
Talent wise Lee and Harris are awesome. Just did not havethe experience that we are accustom to have at ILB.
The sky isn’t falling and CNS defense isn’t out dated. Justsome really bad injuries to some very key personnel. Just look at how many trueFreshmen we had start games throughout the year.
Just my opinion. You can finds all the starters here and seefor yourself. ROLLTIDEROLL!

I think the plan was to have McMillon call the signals and let Moses be Moses (or the second coming of Evans)......but yes, injuries prevented that from happening. And that caused us to lose 2 games......way more of a loss than losing Tua.....(don't misread -- Tua not healthy didn't cost us the LSU or Auburn games -- not having Moses did)

Injuries sank this season. Many want to dissect the program after a loss like this but injuries were simply surmountable this season. Add to that early departures of underclassmen to the NFL last year and the defections of top quality recruits expected to make an impact this year and we simply did not have enough horses to compete for a championship.

Think about it - it seems so unlikely that I won't accept it at this point. I am not saying that Alabama is not going to replace any coaches. I am saying that Saban would not be talking about it with anyone right now because it could ruin his recruiting class.

To accept that Suttles has a real source here is to believe that Saban suddenly became an idiot. And who is going to call Suttles out for this right now? Everyone expects Saban to fire someone. Sounds legit. But it feels wrong.

You're dead wrong on this and your ignorance of how things work at Alabama is showing. Aaron Suttles is as in the know as anyone in the media and he's not one to say things just to say them. If he says 2, then that's most likely accurate. You're trying to come up with your own thinking to explain why he's wrong. It looks silly.

So, if you were guessing, who do you think the two are?

I was going to be rude......but I'll let B1G fight his own battles......

But this post was obnoxious......at best.

One quick and easy thing to fix on defense is to become disciplined and avoid stupid penalties (going offsides on 4th and 4, tapping an opposing QB after the ball is gone).
That alone would have brought victory in the Iron Bowl.
Don't do dumb stuff.
That can be done any time. Including during a game. If you do something dumb, just resolve not to do anything else that is dumb. And it works instantly.

This is what I believe, too. While it is a new world and I don't think we are going to see dominate defenses like we are used to, due to the rules that favor the offense, what sank this season is the rash of injuries at key positions. I think with a healthy Tua we win both of those 2 games we lost. I think with a healthy Dylan Moses we would have as well... Roll Tide and trust in Saban!

It's all about recruitment. Ohio State would be a great example of the latest type of defensive players to recruit and defensive schemes to follow.

You had in Alfano and Anoma elite players who could have helped you this year. I would certainly look at why they left.

Can definitely see Moses stopping Nix in the first quarter. Or Burrow a few times on his runs....or that LSU RB that Diggs kept trying to ride like a pony.

Can also see Tua taking off and scoring on LSU on one notable play....and not being so rusty in the first quarter vs LSU. Don't think he throws 2 pick 6's either.

But, we lost the QB of the offense and the QB of the defense...and transfer that were expected to contribute. There's a tipping point where any team finally just can't overcome "factors" and things decline.

I sure hate to complain about Coach Saban's D cause it's been the one constant that's made us the most dominant football in college football history..But..Nothing or nobody is perfect..I sure hope he rethinks his 3rd down & long philosophy cause i sweat bullets every time we defend against it..

I stopped worrying on the 3rd down and began expecting the opponent to make it regardless of distance, then when they did get a stop I was pleasantly surprised. Only way I could deal with the utter frustration of seeing other teams convert when the D should have been off the field.

We will never know, but Saban knows. You are losing too many of these guys. It has t stop. Figure it out.

I can believe for some kids its just home sickness or going from being the #1 guy in high school to fresh meat at Alabama. But I wonder how much of it is a sense that Saban and Bama are more business like, as opposed to Clemson, LSU etc that "appear" to them to be more "fun."
