I don't often agree with CoachJeff, but this is an unsuccessful year relative to expectations. For the fun of it, let's use mock draft 1st round projections as a measure of expectations.
I have a better idea - how about we use the number of true freshmen starting games as a measure of expectations. I doubt any team in America would have done better with a similar situation.

You guys think that beating unranked teams is something that should be taken for granted. Meanwhile, every other college fan worries about every game that their team plays every week because they know that unranked teams are not to be taken for granted.

When going 10-2 has become a disappointment, it is time to stop watching the game.

i guess that depends on your motivation for starting the thread which i imagine was a foundation for future fretting more so than to have a tangible effect on player's decisions. but i guess that's neither here nor there.
The goal of the thread was the have a place to find out which players are sitting out of the bowl game.

I wanted to be the first to have the thread!

Don't confuse promptness for pessimism.
Yeah because There were so many people that immediately wanted to do this thread after losing Auburn instead of talking about the game... blue font

But you were also that guy that made that thread about going to the peach bowl to play UCF right after we lost to Auburn.... I think there maybe a pattern here.

Of course you did, that way the negativity gets going right out of the gate...
It's going to be easy to pick you out at the TF gathering next year, I'll just look for the cat with the cloud over his head...pouring rain!!!

Under Saban the expectation is to beat unranked teams. He's done that better than anyone in the history of college football, beating every unranked team since the loss to UL-Monroe in 2007.

If Bama is injury free they go 11-1 or 12-0. I think most Bama fans would agree with that. However, if you asked the average Bama fan in August if 10-2 with losses to LSU and AU and no top 25 wins would be successful I think the answer would be (should be) "no". Yes, the injuries were a big reason for that, but the reason for the unsuccessful season doesn't make it any less unsuccessful. 10-2 for a Saban team with a 2 game schedule is not successful.

There are about 25 teams that would have been 10-2 against Bama's schedule.
In August, no, 10-2 would not have been deemed successful. However, that doesn't account for the full context of the season. Given the injuries before, during the middle and late in the season, the fact that we didn't slip up and lose other games is incredible. And that we only lost those two games by a combined 8 points is pretty amazing.

So with the context of the full season, yeah, 10-2 with close losses is successful, given that it could have turned out worse.

And yet it's become an argument for little more than arguments sake. And it's primarily due to your negativity based on a 2 loss season to top level teams. We lost by a combined 8 points with numerous true freshmen and non starters on both sides of the ball. The middle of the defense suffered this year. Even a non-coach (me) could diagnose that.

Had we pulled either or both of those games out what would have been your narrative? Should we have dominated them? Won by more? What?

If you ARE a coach I certainly hope, for your teams sake, your negativity doesn't translate to the players. But I suspect it does.

I'm typically not a confrontational person but you've triggered the non-typical side of me. Fire away.

You are dancing around what me and 92 are saying. There is clearly nothing wrong with being negative, critical, or a little bit realistic, But lately a lot of folks are going way overboard with what they are saying, and are acting like Alabama was total garbage this year.

We have no problem with someone saying it was an empty season or it was a disappointing. We have problems with folks seeking a reaction from a clearly overboard statement.
This goes several ways. It's a message board. Opinions will vary. "We" should all recognize that.

That said, I wish the best to Lewis and Diggs and hope the remaining guys take these additional practices - and Michigan - seriously.
