And this is the crux of our disagreement. I don't believe that free healthcare is a human right any more than I believe that three square meals, air conditioning and free high-speed internet are.

Let them die in the streets, right? I mean, they are disposable.

Are you disposable? I just want to understand where we draw the line.

Edited - changed trash to disposable because you were offended by my use of the word.

Can we tone down the melodrama just a tiny bit? We haven't had free healthcare in this country since it's inception in 1776 and I'm pretty sure if people were "dying in the streets" we would know about it. As I have stated in numerous previous posts, I have no issue with lending a a helping hand to those who can't afford health insurance. We are a charitable nation and that is part of what makes America great. I just don't believe that you earn that right just by physically being present somewhere in our 50 states.

Don't we have a policy on this site against personal attacks? I get it that you probably have more posts on this web site than Clint Eastwood has baby mamas but just because you are royalty does not mean you should be immune to the rules.

grow a thicker skin, that isn't close to a personal attack

and here is a list of just some people that died because they couldn't afford their insulin

How is that a personal attack? I asked if you were garbage (disposable)? That is a question. Are you? And should you be allowed to die in the streets? I don't think that you are. I don't think that I am. I don't think that the poorest soul in America is. But maybe we disagree. Where do we draw the line? Who is disposable (garbage), and who is not disposable? You? Me? Who?

ETA - I edited the post.

People are dying right here in America every single day because they cannot get quality healthcare. Everyone who wants to know about it does. Then there is the segment of society that doesn't want to know about it for various reasons.

You called me worthless trash but "cleverly" disguised it as a question. Even a third grader can see through that.

Don't worry, it didn't hurt my feelings. It just peeves me when Tidefans "Royalty" is allowed to flout the rules when other less active users get suspended. You think for a second I wouldn't have been suspended if a called B1GTide worthless trash?

No, I did not. I do not think that you or anyone else is worthless trash (well, Trump). I was making a point about people being disposable (trash).

If you were offended consider that you consider people dying right now from inadequate healthcare to be trash (disposable). How do I know? Because you would let them die to protect the inadequate healthcare system that is killing them.

ETA - do you think that you are somehow more civil because you won't call them trash? You will just let them die, but since you won't call them disposable you are the civil one in the discussion?

High drug prices are an entirely different discussion. American drug manufacturers live under the protection of US patent and trademark law. If a drug company is found to have engaged in illegal anti-competitive behavior then we should nullify their patents.

It's not just drugs. I had a colonoscopy 3 years ago. My out of pocket for the procedure was almost $1k. I can't imagine how many people could never even consider having that procedure given the cost - and it is impossible if you do not have insurance. The procedure saved my life. They found a mass the size of my fist.

I would be dead now if not for my income and insurance. Just another statistic.

Calling healthcare a 'human right' doesn't work for me, either, as the rights that are enumerated in the US Constitution are acknowledgements of the natural rights we have as humans. None of the natural rights exist at the cost of another person's work: we can speak and assemble freely, bear arms, refuse to provide housing for the military in our homes, not be illegally searched, not self-incriminate, etc. - none of these natural rights force someone else to provide their private services.

I'm not saying we shouldn't have a real, frank discussion about universal healthcare and whether it's tenable in the US, it's simply a nit-picky point about the usage of terminology. You will find lots of people who will dig their heels in when you start calling healthcare a 'human right', when we literally don't even call food and water such...

Now back to your regularly scheduled pandemic.
