to save, save, save until you have enough to get through a long cycle of no-to-low revenue/income. To not do so makes us make decisions we otherwise might not make.

Off topic a bit but quickly just wanted to respond to this part of your post, Brett.

Some will be OK through this pandemic because they have done exactly that.

Some won't.

I would like to see an intense campaign at some point from our political, community, and media leadership to drive this point home with whatever creative and educational formats will suit the purpose.

People need to have 3-6 months of savings for ANY kind of situation that negatively impacts their income.

The cynical side of me is doubtful this will come to fruition and even if it does we will still have too many people living way beyond their means.

Sorry to detract from the sports angle but had to get that off my chest.

If we play Thirteenessee on the third Saturday in March would CBS carry that or the NCAA basketball tournament?

Well there's an uplifting message for the AM...Look, none of us know. All we can do is hope for the best. We (Bama) want to lead by example. If that's the first to be back on campus, great! If we're the first to cancel the season, well then it is what it is and we can trust it was done with the utmost in due diligence...

I'm hoping and praying for football...but if it doesn't happen we can be damn sure that it was given every opportunity...

We'll see NFL football at some point this year...and I think we'll see The Tide take the field too...I just don't know how or when...none of us do...

Happy/Positive thoughts!!! I have work to do, two kids homework to help out with and a date at the range with my wife @ 3!!!

Life is tough right now, but we need to be tougher...Lead by example...say hello, wave, smile!!!

I usually dislike this quote because it's over used, but..."What doesn't kill you makes you stronger..."

Be that person that makes someone else's day...

Roll Tide!!!
Thanks for the positive thoughts. I sold out into TIPS when the market was at bottom and got a little saltier than super saturated brine.

Regular start with full season but with reduced tickets being sold to each game to allow for distancing between fans, say every third seat occupied. Be a real mess to arrange especially for season ticket holders and couples attending
At Bama, it would be impossible in the student section.

If the economy is open by June, we have football in September.

I don't think starting the season concerns them. I tend to agree with you that they could get things rolling in September. I think the fear is that another wave of this would flair up late in the season that would force them to cancel it like with basketball. Of course, without a vaccine, the same risk would apply to the spring as well.

The barners....being the bozos that they are....have actually declared that their bragging rights will be renewed., should the 2020 season be cancelled. That is right in line with their thinking. ALL programs would feel the ramifications of the loss of a whole season. Some more than others. This could really set their program back. Yet...it would be fine with them...just to be able to have "renewed bragging rights". What a bunch of clowns!

It would be weird but I'd rather see a game in BDS on TV with no fans than not see a game at all.

Sure, the financial ramifications for hosting games with no fans would be huge, but at least the TV contract keeps the money coming in.

Again, fanless football would be better than no football.

As Darwin stated, it is not the strongest that survive, but those that are most adaptable to change. The virus is going to require a good bit of adaptability for everybody: families, schools, businesses, universities, sporting events, etc. Devising unique solutions that embrace technology and that recognize the limitations required for safety until a vaccine is available need to be embraced. It may not be sports in the same way we watched it before, but those that are able to create safe and innovative solutions will be the ones that succeed.

My daughter has already made me houndstooth face mask, so I'm ready!

This is going to be VERY interesting going forward. There is SO much to consider here. That's why I put ZERO stock in these rumblings about the NCAA supposedly meeting right now to make a decision about the season. According to previous rumors and innuendo, this "decision" was "expected any day" four times now, LOL. Now, while it is true that basketball and baseball got the ax, the same can't be assumed for football. First off, naturally, all sports are different animals. Football stands alone. It is the money generator. It's how a lot of these smaller sports survive. This is nothing we don't already know. Basketball and baseball were the first casualties in this thing. But even they didn't go down without a fight. Other provisions were being considered. Conference and NCAA tournaments were going to be played sans fans. College baseball was going to hit the pause button and then try and resume in April or May, also sans fans. Then NBA players starting testing positive, and then old Goober or whatever his name was got up there and put his hands all over everything thinking it was cute. Pro sports seasons were then cancelled so of course, how could the NCAA even think about not following suit? All of those sports had one thing in common. It was their season, right at that moment. They were all staring down the barrel of several loaded rifles, so to speak. They were forced to make the decision, with zero margin for error.

As Cecil Hurt said in his article, football has time on it's side, a luxury that the other sports just did not have. Stating the very obvious here, but football isn't basketball or baseball. No, it's a WHOLE lot bigger. As bad as the loss of those other seasons is and will prove to be later, the loss of a football season would be unfathomable. That is why they will be taking their time with this. Even out of the biggest revenue generators, even out of the absolute biggest brand names out there (Bama, Texas, USC, Ohio State, Michigan, etc) not one of them can afford to lose an entire season. Let's not fool ourselves. Bama or Ohio State losing a football season would hurt no less than Akron or Coastal Carolina losing a season. They will look at EVERY possible scenario to get this thing played. And I mean EVERY. My .02 is, short of an Armageddon or Deep Impact type scenario (remember those movies? LOL) where an asteroid is headed our way, or the pandemic somehow takes a major turn for the worse (which would be akin to the aforementioned scenarios) then a season is somehow, some way happening. How? Well, that remains to be seen. It could be a delayed start, no fans, conference games only, no playoffs, no championships of any kind. But, I just can't see a total plug pulling, unless things take a horrifically bad turn for the worse. Synchronicity will be amongst the major hurdles. College football is a complex organism. It won't as simple as "ok everyone just move everything two months to the right". It's gonna be crazy, no matter how it proceeds.

I can't imagine we have a normal season at this point but I could be wrong.

I just hope we have some sort of season.

Agreed. As of date, I'm just "hearing" many predicted dates of getting back to normalcy too far out in the future to have a normal football season. Also, I don't know the financial impact that revenue from fan attendance has on the overall budget of football operations. But I don't get the feeling there will be fan attendance allowed or even volunteered with a modified season. Then I progress to advertising and sponsorship money. There is no way companies and sponsors are going to pay normal rates for games broadcast for a "modified season". There's just so many moving parts to consider when thinking about it.

Nobody makes decisions today, they just consult the "Will I get Sued" meter. if there is no Vaccine or at least a treatment that is 99% effective there is no way they will allow a student on the campuses. If congress would pass the "rona don't sue me" legislation it might change that fate. In my opinion without that legislation America is done, as in it will be a post apocalyptic waste land where people kill each other for a loaf of bread, so I see no path forward until you take the lawyers out of the situation.
