I dunno, at this point vax status seems to have little to do with whether or not one is infected.
I find it ironic that they are fighting the steps to mitigate the disease and its effects not that they are trying to prevent infection a disease that these two now have because they are against steps to mitigate.

The last few paragraphs are frightening.

I don't know that I'd characterize their actions as 'fighting the steps to mitigate the disease and its effects' - there are lots of people who are pro-vaccine yet anti-mandate.

I believe that if every American would exercise daily it would benefit every single person (improve overall health and mobility, reduce our shared healthcare costs, etc). There would be virtually no downside to forcing people to exercise daily, but that doesn't mean I think it should be mandated.

These people are cowards and not to be feared.

that doesn't really apply here as the lack of exercise is not contagious

yeah, but they do a lot to prevent serious disease and hospitalization which is the point of vaccines
As does exercise.

I'm not really equating the two - it's simply pointing out that one can be pro-vaccine while being anti-mandate. They aren't mutually exclusive.

They are not, but in this case they have been almost entirely. Covid spread for political reasons, and it is now impossible to contain. Anti-vax folks were one and the same as the anti-mandate folks in that fight. Some few exceptions cannot be allowed to skew that reality.

Had mandates been put in place - masks and then vaccine - this would have over long ago. But humans are self serving asses, so we get Delta and then Omnicron.

Anecdotal, I guess, but I know quite a few vaccinated folks who are rabidly anti-mandate.

The 'individual spirit' is still alive and well.

Eh, maybe. That's a wild guess. We've no idea how Delta and Omicron developed or if we would have ended up with something worse.

I'm not sure we've enough vaccines to cover the planet, which is one of the reasons I believe Covid-19 is endemic and will always be here. I don't think our current vaccines are enough to combat it like we did with some other vaccines.

Agreed, but mask mandidates would have ended this in the US. Masks still work, even against Omnicron. We are idiots.

Some masks do, sure. But the masks most people are wearing aren't effective against Omicron.

But again, you'll NEVER get 100% compliance on anything, which is why the 'two weeks' has become two years. Acting as if all humans will always comply (or that all will even know to) is unrealistic. We were never going to beat this, not with masks, not with these vaccines.

We may end up with a vaccine that completely huts down the virus, but masks aren't alone were never going to solve this.

At this point, I'm happy to be vaccinated, I wish everyone was - but a mandate isn't stopping anything.
