I would bet dollars to donuts that alcohol was involved...just doesn't make sense. Talk about doing stupid things that harm your own being!!

I wouldn't kick him off...especially if this is the first time. I would make him run a couple of hundred "stadiums" over the next month. With Burroughs supervising would be great.

I think the key here is precedence. Have there been previous issues with Burroughs? Is this something new in terms of behavior, attitudes or actions? If this is an escalation in terms of negative behavior, then it is the proverbial “horse of a different color”.

I agree with the next man up mentality but this would be a really unfortunate loss. He was supposed to be a difference maker this year and we need some of those guys on the DL

Agree, and no it isnt...

This is a new reality.

I personally hope this problem can be solved with internal discipline.

Is this really worse than what happened with Tony Mitchell, who is being disciplined and reportedly working his way back into CNS's good graces???

The problem is fans love to “next man up” to things that they only have 25% of the story. I am more in favor of handling things internally but vultures like Tony T love to dig and be the first one out with the story so they create a narrative that last 2 weeks and people start to question CNS’s decision making.

This 100%. Could be an invaluable learning opportunity for the kid and still remain on the team...or not. Just got to let Coach sort it out because he knows the scoop and the player and we do not. We'll see but guaranteed that Coach will do the the right and necessary thing for the program and the kid.

I thought the treatment of Mekhi Brown was a mistake. He should have been booted off the sideline instantly, and sent home on a bus that night.

You could look at Brown’s treatment as a precedent, or you could look at it as a mistake. I wouldn’t be in favor of perpetuating a mistake simply because it‘s a misguided precedent.

Side note: If I remember correctly, Brown transferred out during the offseason after his sideline misconduct.

I don’t know for sure what Burroughs did. Only things I’ve seen confirmed are (1) it was conduct detrimental to the team, and (2) it didn’t involve any legal issues.

While getting physical with a coach would fit those criteria, I don’t know whether he actually did that or not. But if he did, he should be booted immediately, permanently, and without recourse.

We all agree that the team culture got a bit soft in the last few years, and we’re all glad to see the return of mental and physical toughness. You can’t restore that mentality only when it’s convenient and relatively painless. It has to be consistently reinforced across all players, whether they’re a returning All-American or a true freshman walk-on.

Right now, we’re talking the talk. If you allow a player to get physical with a coach, you’re not walking the walk. It just sends a horrible message that if we need you bad enough, you can do anything — up to and including striking a coach — and we’ll find a way to keep you on.

IOW, all that stuff about a return to mental discipline and physical toughness is just off-season yammering for the fans.

The fact that Burroughs would find a landing place (maybe with a rival) within days if not hours of entering the portal can’t influence the decision.

I guess my thinking is kicking him off the team and allowing him to instantly get picked up by another team would help another team and NOT help him learn his lesson. He'd get rewarded and not have to pay for the mistake.

Why not try to discipline him and help him learn while at the same time not helping another team? It's probably best thing for him and the team.

*If HOWEVER there is a pattern of bad behavior and bad influence on the team, I'd send him packing. If he's a cancer and another team picks him up they inherit a problem.
