BREAKING Buchner to start- per reports

This is a change that had to happen. Milroe has turned the ball over 5 times in 2 starts against P5 competition leading to 27 points for Bama's opponents. I don't know how well Buchner will play, but he has to be better than what we have seen from Milroe.
What is bad are the backup QB’s have lost valuable game time experience during this experiment trying to decide who should be QB1. Here we are going into game 3 and our backup have maybe 2 to 3 series each in mop up duty.

Seems like the 2 int’s may be the end of the road for Milroe 🤔 If so I am an Alabama fan wish him well but let’s get behind Buchner, the starter and that we can get back to winning big games Roll Tide Roll.
The two INTs definitely didn’t help Milroe’s case. But I think it’s more than just the INTs that led to Buchner being the starter.

It’s the inability to make even a decent defense (and UTw is far better than decent) respect the passing game. If they don’t at least respect the threat, they do what we saw Saturday night — load the box, deny the run, and mount an all-out attack on a jelling OL.

Milroe’s problem is that the classic counters to this — quick decisions on hot routes, checkdowns to short passes, ability to make even 2 reads in quick succession, etc. — are exactly what he has not mastered.

So no, the interceptions didn’t help. But I believe the lack of confidence that he can force a narrative different from the one that led to the INTs is what landed him on the pine.

Meh, JM had 2-3 seconds, on average, to get the ball out.

IOW, he had roughly the same amount of time it took QE to get the ball out.

We've discussed it to death but while no QB would have flourished behind that OL last Saturday, JM's slow decision-making exacerbated the OL's poor play tremendously.
On the interceptions he threw there was no pressure only horrible reads on Milroe part. When he got pressure, count how many second held the ball. By my count it was 3-4 on several.

Historically, backup QB's never get any significant meaningful snaps. The exception was Tua.

It was mentioned that the QB competition was still open going into the UTX game but didn’t play out that way when only JM got all the snaps. After the 2nd int would have been the perfect opportunity to try someone else. The outcome might still have ended with a lose but we will never know now.

I’m not surprised. What do you do when you see clearly the QB isn’t working out. You have one week to get timing down with the offense in a live game situation before a ranked Ole Miss comes calling.
The biggest problem I see is that no other QB got any work against Texas. If TB and TS both play well against a seemingly overwhelmed team, have we really learned anything?

If you consider the total number of snaps for JM and Buchner(ND mostly) with the first string players, you know the strengths/limitations of each QB.

Unless TS is offered a comparable number of snaps, how can his skills be accurately assessed? In practice, no way.

And please don’t preach that the staff always gets it right, e.g., benching Drew Andrews, an unanimous All-American in his single season after jumping to Arkansas and one of the 3 finalists for the Butkus Award, with Dallas Turner(BTW, where was he vs Texas).

This is what I dont get. Why we didnt attempt to land a big fish out of the transfer portal is beyond me. Hartman at ND was obviously the biggest fish, but even spencer sanders who transferred out of Oklahoma State.

I felt bad for the kid honestly during the texas game. He wasn't ready and it showed.
Hartman said Bama did contact him. I am not sure if his brother is enrolled at ND but someone on campus mistook him for Hartman and said he was glad he transferred to ND. He told Hartman and evidently that put the thought in his head about transferring.

It didn't seem that the QB competition was open in the Middle Tennessee game either. Buchner and Simpson only came into the game in the fourth quarter.

I’m not happy about the change. Oh, it needed to happen. But if I had my wishes Milroe would have shown out. He signed with us out of HS and I want to see our guys do well. The same with Simpson. You have to do what is best for the team though. Now I’m wishing Buchner all the success in the world.

Defense played OK, for three quarters; they have to grow up quick because a team with a better offense than UT shows up next week.
Georgia won two NC’s - TWO - with Stetson Bennet at QB who will never play in the NFL.
The team around SB was way better, ON THE FIELD (not on paper), than what Bama has produced on the field the last two years. Coaches are not getting enough out of the players. Look at what players from Bama the last two years are doing in the pros - arguably higher level performances than what they gave at Bama.
If the team had played better, Bama wins Saturday. It doesn’t matter who’s at QB, if the whole team doesn’t play better, across the board, there will be more losses this season.

You make a valid point, but I would say there is value in reps being under live fire even if it’s an overmatched opponent.

Agree and it should have been obvious that JM wasn’t the guy way back in the Spring. That is disconcerting on its own.

No source and i know this board hates rumors, but I’m hearing Milroe is the #3.

Hearing tomorrow will be Buchner, followed by Simpson if score allows.

I never thought I’d ever be nervous about a game against USF, but here we are lol…I love the change to TB but I think it’s huge that he gets off to a good start. I have to imagine the locker room is a little divided between the 3 qb’s. Especially since JM and TS have been here much longer. I hope Coach Rees has his best stuff ready to go so TB can settle in and have some early success.
